SERIES 200 CONTROLLER

CONTROLLER MANUAL BONAS MACHINE COMPANY

General Decription of Function and Specification

The SERIES 200 CONTROLLER is ergonomically designed to ensure that it is user friendly, reliable and easy to maintain and service.

The Control board has a 3.5 inch, high capacity DOS compatible disk drive (1.44 Mbyte formatted) to be used as the primary means of design transfer.

The system is able to load designs from the disk or network system while the loom is weaving. Designs loaded from the disk are in Bonas EP format.

The Control board is designed to withstand radiated and conducted electromagnetic interference in accordance with the EEC EMC Directive as specified by the IEC 801 Standard (parts 2,4 & 5)

The system is designed so that weaving speeds of up to 1000 picks per minute can be achieved.

A visual indication that the system is functioning is shown by a number of LED's which are visible through the front panel of the unit. These LED's are allocated as follows ;

One LED to indicate the presence of mains power being supplied to the system. One LED to indicate that the system hardware is healthy.

One LED to indicate that the software is running OK.

Two LED,s indicating the status of the Jacquard vane (timing) switches. Five LED,s indicating the status of the Jacquard signals.

One LED indicating a warning which requires operator intervention.

A liquid crystal display is visible through the front panel of the unit, which when used in conjunction with the keyboard allows the operator to select a particular function.

The system has self checking routines which run periodically while the system is running. If an internal error is detected, then the LED's on the front panel will indicate the error.

Two serial ports are provided to allow the controller to communicate with other equipment.

Specification and operating environment.

The system is designed to operate within the following specifications :-1 Operating temperature 5 - 40 deg C

2 Relative humidity 30 - 95% non condensing

3 Enclosure sealed to prevent ingress of dust and water to at least IP43 Specification ie

Protected against solid objects greater than 1.0 mm and against drops of water falling at angles of up to 60deg from the vertical.

4 Power supply 110V +/- 10%

49.5 TO 60.5Hz

Controller position

The following points should be considered when positioning the controller. 1. Position away from any magnetic source.

2. The controller must not be in contact with any other machine or source of vibration. 3 Position in a safe area, away from passing traffic etc.

4 The controller must be easily accessible, operators must not reach over any machinery to operate the controller.

5 The section of electrical cables, leading to the controller, that run along the floor, must be kept to a minimum length and be enclosed in a suitable ramp type cover.

General Decription of Function and Specification

Another serial port is available so that a portable PC may be connected to the system in order to allow editing of the designs held by the system.

A standard loom interface is provided through which the system can connect to all major loom manufacturers machines.

Sockets for up to four non volatile static ram cards are provided to act as a storage area for designs transferred from the disk drive or network. This gives the storage capabilities as shown below;

CARD SIZE TOTAL MEMORY SINGLE HEAD 1344 ENDS MONOBLOCK 2688 ENDS SRAM CARDS 0.5 Mbyte 1.0 Mbyte 2.0 Mbyte 2.0 Mbyte 4.0 Mbyte 8.0 Mbyte 12000 picks 24000 picks 48000 picks 6000 picks 12000 picks 24000 picks PICK STORAGE CAPACITY (MAX)

CONTROLLER MANUAL BONAS MACHINE COMPANY

Introduction

Page 3B/5 shows all the options available in the Controller and the corresponding page which describes how to operate in that option.

Whenever the Series 200 Controller is switched on the controller runs through a series of self checks and the display shows the following information.

Bonas Series 200 Controller - Ver 0.6

System Initialising - Please Wait ...

Because the controller is designed to maintain information relating to the loom and Jacquard when it is switched off, part of these self checks validate this information in order to check for possible corruption. Depending upon the result of the self checks, the screen will display the type of initialisation required. If corruption of the information stored in the controller is detected, the screen will display

Performing Cold Start

If the self checks show that the information stored has not been corrupted the screen displays : Performing Warm Start

Cold Start means that the controller is being started without any information relating to the operation of the loom and Jacquard.

Note:

Following a Cold Start, ensure that the controller is configured so that it may operate correctly with your Jacquard/Loom combination. (See Pages 3B/38- 50).

A Cold Start is only performed in the unlikely event of corruption of the configuration information. In the vast majority of cases a Warm Start is performed, which means that the controller will start up in the same programmed state as it was when it was last running.

The initialisation messages stay on the screen for approximately 3 seconds after which the screen displays the main menu and the controller can be operated as required.

Two levels of operation are provided one of which allows the operator to access all of the functions of the controller. This level of operation is termed Full Access. The second level restricts operation to just three options and is termed Limited Access. Depending on the level the controller has been set up to operate, the screen will then display the appropriate menu options.

To move to the Full Menu from the Limited Menu a code number must be used, see page 3B/8. To move to the Limited Menu from the Full Menu press F1 key.

PLEASE NOTE :

Information entered into the configuration menus must be correct. If the wrong information is entered serious faults can occur in the loom / Jacquard systems.

When this option is selected , the screen will ask for confirmation of the chosen option. This is to prevent accidental alteration of the configuration information.

In order to allow the controller to drive the Jacquard and loom correctly, it must first be configured. The Configure Controller option allows the operator to enter this configuration information. The configuration of the controller is divided into three groups; configuration of the Jacquard, configuration of the loom and general configuration.

This menu option will normally only be selected when the controller is being commissioned as most of the configuration information relates specifically to the loom/Jacquard combination, and so will not change.

However, some of the general configuration information such as the time and user access level may be altered from time to time.

All of the configuration information is stored by the controller so that it will not be lost when the controller is switched off.

Press 1 enables the operator to set up the controller to suit the Jacquard. Press 2 enables the operator to setup the controller to suit the loom. Press 3 Allows the operator to set the User level. (Limited or Full Menu ). Press 4 Allows the operator to transfer configuration data to & from disk. Press 5 Alows the operator to set up the controller to work in a network system.
