The empowered, sassy Camellia and her friends are strong central characters who continue to grow through their experiences, and they will appeal to any girl with dreams and determination.

Camellia Azalea Gardenia Bloom thinks she knows everything about being a flower girl. She can dance down the aisle, smile in a special way, and drop petals in a perfect path behind her. There’s only one problem—Cami has never been in a wedding before. That changes when her Aunt Bella pops the question and asks Camellia to be her flower girl. Cami is thrilled, until she discovers there will be two other girls joining her down the aisle. Now this little girl has a big dilemma: should she force the other girls to play by her rules or join in the fabulous flower girl fun?

With gouache illustrations of dogs, people, parks, markets, and cafes that bring Paris to life, the story of Hudson, an adventurous Norwich Terrier who moves to Paris, is as much for dog lovers and Fran-cophiles as it is for kids. Hudson loves the new sights and smells, but when he tries to make friends, an obstacle arises—the dogs only speak French. When his mom suggests going to French class, Hudson discovers other ex-pat dogs are in the same boat. Determined to make friends, he hits the books and things begin to look up; Hudson becomes a

Parisian, or rather, a Paris-chien (chien means "dog" in French). Demonstrating a message to children about how to cope with change in their lives, little Hudson's desire to make friends and thrive in his new environment is so strong that he learns a new language. French words that appear in the illustra-tions are defined in a glossary, so the book also serves as an introduction to learning French. Hud-son's successful experience will be a consolation to any child set down in a new school, city, or country. “Hudson, a plucky terrier, can’t wait to meet some French dogs while spending a year in Paris. When he finally finds a dog park, an obstacle arises: The dogs only speak French . . . Hudson eventually ab-sorbs the language, thanks to lessons from—who else?—a French poodle . . . The story showcases Mancuso’s playful gouache paintings of Paris and its human and canine denizens, and she gives Hud-son a bold, amusing narrative voice.”

Armed with a pencil in her ponytail, a pot-bellied pig, and a pocketful of gummy turtles, there’s noth-ing that fourth-grade artist Channnoth-ing O'Bannnoth-ing can’t do. When Channing discovers that her best friend has gone crazy over the new boy at school, she fears that she's lost her best friend forever. Drawing her frustrations out in her secret sketch-book, Channing is determined to make Marco, “the best friend thief,” her worst enemy. But when they both wind up in the rainforest of Costa Rica, Channing soon discovers that Marco may be her only hope for survival. From zip-lining through the jungle and daydreaming of monster frogs to finding out what it means to “go green,” Channing not only discovers the wonders of the rainforest but learns a little about herself and the value of trusting others. The story of 17-year-old Grace Ann Miller is that of no ordinary runaway. Touching upon topics such as mental illness, teen pregnancy, and the relation-ship between victims and abductors, this is Grace's account of weeks on the run, falling in love, and losing everything but her faith. After being missing for weeks, Grace turns up on the estate of interna-tional rock star Gavin Vault, half-dressed and yelling for help. Over the course of 24 hours, she holds an entire police force captive with incredu-lous tales of angels, demons, and war, intent on saving Gavin from lockup and her family from worry over her safety. Instead, authorities believe that Grace is ill, the victim of assault and suffering from a severely fractured mind as a result of Stock-holm Syndrome. Undeterred, Grace reveals the secret existence of dark angels on Earth, an an-cient prophecy, and a wretched curse steeped in biblical myth. Her claims set into motion an ages-old war, pitting sister against brother and light versus darkness, resulting in blood, death, and the loss of everything that matters. Faced with corrupt police officers, eager doctors, and accusing jour-nalists, Grace must convince all of them that her delusions are actually the truth, with nothing but her word as proof.

Seventy writers from across the creative spectrum bring their modern sensibilities to the classic format of Aesop's 2,500-year-old fables. Zombies, dog-men, and robot wasps mingle with cats, coyotes, and cockroaches. Parables ranging from the punchy to the evocative and the wry to the disturb-ing explore eternal human foibles, as displaced onto lemmings, trout, and race cars. But beware: in these terse explorations of desire, envy, and power, certitude isn’t always as clear as it looks.

Contributors include a variety of award-winning and bestselling authors, such as Ed Greenwood and Richard Scarsbrook, with artwork from hot comics artist Jim Zubkavich and beautiful, eye-catching interior line drawing by Rachel Kahn Market.

Originally published by Mainstreet/Doubleday in 1998, this debut novel from an underground film-maker uses print, photographs, drawings, news clippings, handwriting, a poem, attempted diagrams, and clip art to enhance the text, which primarily tells of a race war that happens in Florida, where the Jewish people sit in trees, the black people are run by MC Hammer, and the white people are run by Vanilla Ice. Or as the author himself described in front of a national television audience, "I wanted to write the Great American Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Novel." In actuality, it is a collection of hard-luck stories, off- and on-color jokes, script scraps, found letters, free rhymes, drug flashbacks, and other missing scenes, all ex-ploring the world of show business with fingers prying in the cracks and feet set lightly in the black humors of the real world. With chapters about books found in Monty Clift's basement and Tupac Shakur's 10 favorite novels, and a set of 11 suicide notes with room included for the reader's signature, the book is a one-of-a-kind post-postmodern exam-ination of the dangers of public life from a unique voice in independent culture, one that might make William S. Burroughs sigh and turn the page at least. “The new heir, the man, the sweet edge of the future.” —Jim Carroll, author, The Basketball Diaries

A charming, often barbed observation of the evolution of American mainstream filmmaking over the course of its first century, this memoir chronicles the unusual, multidecade career trajectory of Curtis Harrington. Conveyed in a witty and campy style, it follows the strange arc of a man who created avant-garde films as part of Kenneth Anger’s inner circle, directed critically acclaimed and cult-adored horror films like Night Tide and Games, and then descended down the "slippery slope" of television work by directing episodes of Charlie’s Angels and Dynasty. As a fast-paced view of Har-rington's journey through the kaleidoscope of the movie business, it acts alternately as personal memoir and cultural history from a veteran of the entertainment business. As Harrington was living as a gay man in Hollywood, the book additionally gives a rare peek into the hidden world of what was then an elite subculture. Doubling as both a serious study of film aesthetics and a gossipy tell-all, this truly unique look at the Hollywood dream in-cludes an unlikely cast of characters, including Dennis Hopper, Christopher Isherwood, Shelley Winters, Marilyn Monroe, Stanley Kubrick, and Aaron Spelling, as it reveals a portrait of the machi-nations of the film and television business.

Filled with 30 tips that will cover any and every dat-ing situation in which a sdat-ingle woman could possibly find herself, this snappy dating guide dares to go where no female author has ever gone before. CBS Radio personality and former NFL wife Shanae Hall calls upon her experience, wisdom, media prowess, and spot-on dating instincts to explore every as-pect of dating, from dating as a single mother to dating a married man. Hall explores the things that most women do that drive men crazy (in a bad way!), demonstrates how a mother can protect her kids from heartache while she's searching for Mr. Right, and outlines the dating playbook, so any woman can master the game. She also unveils must-have sex techniques and even explores the stigma surrounding African American women and oral sex. But perhaps most importantly, Hall teaches women how to respect themselves so that their men will respect them more. Her lesson is built upon the dual philosophy of learning from one's mistakes and living in reality.

Analogue Guides are a series of curated city guidebooks featuring high-quality, low-key venues distilled through the lens of the neighborhood. Each neighborhood is complemented by a concise set of sophis-ticated listings, including restaurants, cafés, bars, hotels, and serendipitous finds, all illustrated with pho-tographs. The listings are supplemented by user-friendly maps to facilitate navigation of the cityscape. By highlighting aspects of the urban patina frequently lost under the corporate veil of large restaurant groups and ubiquitous chains, the mood and feel of each unique city is captured. The result is a com-pact, efficient manual celebrating the ingenuity of the contemporary metropolis.

In 1972, an officer in the U.S. Air Force hitchhiked around the world and came back a conscientious objector. Along the way, he met John Lennon, traversed the Iron Curtain, smoked opium in Iran, smuggled turquoise over the Khyber Pass into Pakistan, and found his soul in the music of Afghanistan. He faced death in a storm at sea, battled with a bout of dysentery, and escaped the clutches of a dagger-wielding Argentinian lover in India. Through the characters he encounters, the officer is shaped and ultimately transformed. This rationale for peace and understanding between all cultures is his true story, and it is a fascinating look back at a time of self-examination by the United States and its young people.

"[The author] has captured all the nuances of the people, politics, illness, grit and determination that flowed through our psychiatric experiences. He shows the overly analytic approach that we thought was helpful . . . and it was not. He projects a truly genuine love of our veterans and their

struggles." —H. Eugene Evans, PhD

Not only does this hilarious fictional satire unveil previously unknown secrets regarding what went on behind the plots and plans of the Nixon White House, but it corrects some of the pur-ported truths that have been accepted for decades. Gordon Walter is a former Nixon confidant so undercover that his name never appears in a single Watergate reference and nor does he appear on any secret White House tape made throughout the administration, and yet here he reveals that he had access to everything that was going on. What did Chicago have to do with the Watergate burglary? What is the real story behind the notorious 18½-minute gap in Nixon's secret tapes? And who exactly is Gordon Walter? A unique, definitive look at one of the most famous episodes in modern American history, Walter sets the record straight and ends the cover-up for once and for all.

On December 7, 1973, it was found that an 18½ minute portion of one recorded tape had been erased. Nixon's longtime personal secretary, Rose Mary Woods, said she had accidentally erased the tape by pushing the wrong pedal on her tape player when answering the phone. The press ran photos showing that it was unlikely for Woods to answer the phone and keep her foot on the pedal. Later forensic analysis determined that the tape had been erased in several segments—at least five, and perhaps as many as nine.

With a backdrop in actual psychiatric experience, this novel about six aging combat veterans seeking treatment in a V.A. mental ward in Montana exam-ines the neglect of our soldiers who are suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Although more than 350,000 Americans suffered and died in the Vietnam War, many who were wounded in the jungles and rice paddies of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia found their way back to the United States. The bodies, minds, and hearts of these troops experienced a modern strain of damage that demonstrates how poorly our 19-year-old warriors, both men and women, are prepared for the psychological and spiritual aspects of their jour-ney through war. The stories of these particular heroes, still bleeding from "a thousand daggers," are fictional—their experiences are not.

With prose as stripped down and unforgiving as the Chihuahua Desert itself, this novel is at once a gritty historical adventure, a haunting story of relation-ships and love, and a story that dares to confront the reader with unanswerable questions. American miner Frank Holloway, reluctant witness to the Mexican Revolution, searches for answers about responsibility through his relationships ranging from a young doctor to an enigmatic woman to Pancho Villa himself. Though set in a time and place where even an impromptu piano recital has life or death consequences, Frank is no different than anyone else; he must shoulder the heavy burden of even the most unforeseen consequences, even when the result is love.

“I love Sterling Bennett’s prose. It’s as spare as the countryside of his Mexico and tough as its

mesquite.” —Sam Quinones, author,

True Tales from Another Mexico

“Sterling Bennett, a long time resident of Mexico and aficionado of Mexican history, promises a dou-ble-barreled read with this novel that gallops south of the border and back in time.”

A warm and stimulating book, this text describes the India into which the Buddha was born, recounts what is known of his life and the development of his teachings, and then follows the course of Buddhism through succeeding centuries in India and Sri Lanka. Far from being a recluse concerned only with an inner mystical experience, the Buddha always involved himself closely in the social and political world of his time. If he preached detach-ment from many of the things by which ordinary men are tied, he did so as a means of enriching life rather than escaping it. These examinations and more make this a book to reveal the social-revolu-tionary potential of Buddhism.

Trevor Ling was a cleric, theologian, and scholar

In this treatise, noted Burmese scholar and monk Ledi Sayadaw explains the bodhipakkiya dhamma: the 37 requisites of enlightenment. The requisites are comprised of the four foundations of mindful-ness, four right efforts, four bases of success, five controlling faculties, five mental powers, seven fac-tors of enlightenment, and the eight facfac-tors of the Noble Eightfold Path. This book is valuable to those interested in understanding the Buddha’s teaching at a deeper level, while providing the inspiration to continue walking step by step on the path.

“Written on the basis of his exhaustive textual knowledge and personal experience, Requisites of Enlightenment provides a wealth of information and practical guidance not readily obtainable from other sources available in English.”

—Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi, author, In the Buddha’s

Words and The Noble Eightfold Path

“Offers not only a wealth of information on many aspects of the Teaching, but is also a forcefully reasoned and stirring appeal to earnest endeavor towards the Goal.” —Nyanaponika Thera, author,

Encouraging the study of Buddhist canonical literature in Pali, this reader aims to provide a reli-able overview of Siddhattha Gotama’s teachings, allowing students to distinguish them from historical changes, additions, and mutations. Sixteen suttas have been selected here for study, each compro-mising a section of the book. After each sutta are blank pages where students can write down their own renderings; a word-by-word guide to the sutta, with brief grammatical annotations; and, at the end of the book, polished translations of all the suttas offered. A familiarity with basic Pali grammar is recommended.

“Those who have this intuitive gift will find that by the time they complete this book, they will be able to read virtually any sutta in the Pali Nikayas.”

Addressing the distinctive communication skills ex-pected of attorneys—and based on three decades of experience coaching lawyers—this manual of useful solutions integrates cutting-edge discoveries in human factors, linguistics, neuroscience, gesture studies, and sports psychology. These techniques will transform any attorney into a more confident speaker, whether addressing colleagues in a con-ference room, counseling clients in a boardroom, or presenting a CLE in a ballroom. Including tips on bringing the presentation off of one's notes and using direct eye contact, the book answers such common questions as: How do I channel nervous energy into dynamic delivery? What is a reliable way to remember what I want to say? and Why is gesturing so important? Topics are divided into chapters on the body, the brain, and the voice, with an extra section dedicated to practice.

Small Press United (SPU) is a major distribution option, for new and small publishers, from IPG, the independent press distributor renowned for bringing titles to an industry-wide level through the widest variety of sales channels. SPU shares IPG’s sales force throughout the U.S. and Canada to reach thousands of accounts, including chain and independent bookstores, online retailers, national wholesalers, library and specialty wholesalers, gift and specialty retail, museums, and more. SPU does this quicker than other distributors by bypassing the traditional long lead times needed to get books into the market.

SPU provides publishers with:

•36 trade sales reps throughout the U.S. and Canada pitching and hand-selling titles directly to book buyers

•120 gift sales reps for applicable titles to reach specialty retail in all regional markets

• Nationally recognized metadata trans-mission services that command availability and accuracy in customer databases throughout the industry in 4 to 6 weeks

•A suite of online publisher education tools, including how-to guides for planning an effective publicity campaign, honing

successful pitching techniques, writing press materials, and setting up author tours

SPU was created specifically to accommodate the needs of small publishers who want to invest in the creation and promotion of their titles rather than struggle with the considerable challenges of selling and distributing themselves. Publishers pay a one-time $200 set-up fee upon signing the distribution agreement and 30% of the net sales thereafter. There are no hidden storage costs or extraneous monthly charges.

Applying to SPU is easy. The online application can be com-pleted in a matter of minutes, and you can expect to hear back regarding your submission within 5–7 business days.
