Happy New Year!

December is almost over, and the new year is right around the corner. I don’t know about you, but 2020 cannot leave fast enough for me. But before we turn the page, I have to comment on December at our Lodge. Talk about making the best of a tough situation. The month started off with the Elks Memorial. This year our Lodge joined with our La-dies of the Elks and performed their and our ceremony back-to-back, outside and on Zoom for our members. We said goodbye to 25 brothers and sisters this year and I hope our perseverance did their memories proud.

Also, this month we had our Christmas “parties”, one for the kids and one for the adults. Due to the Governors re-strictions, we had to make them drive through. I must take the time to thank each and every person who helped with these events. As trying as they were to pull off, they were a great success. Thank you thank you thank you. We still managed to raise good money for the kids and a big thank you for all who sponsored the trees, helped decorate or bought tickets. Congratulations to our winners. We even managed to tent the Lodge for termites, a job that we were trying to find time to do for years.

Looking ahead to January, don’t forget about our annual black-eyed peas and cornbread on New Year’s Day event. It starts at 11:00 and we will have it if we have to do a drive through. Come and get some, I think we need all the luck we can get.

Next Elk year is fast approaching, and we will need a new cadre of officers to serve our Lodge. We don’t yet know what the election season will look like, but details will be coming soon. Let me or one of our other officers know about your interest.

I know I say this every month, but it bears repeating. Thank you, thank you thank you to all the members, officers, em-ployees, and volunteers who continue to make the best of an extremely difficult situation. Thank you for being Oceano Elks. Stay safe, stay positive, and I’ll see you at the Lodge soon.

Fraternally,

Jay Dupler, Exalted Ruler

Hello to our Elks #2504 Members,

I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Hap-py New Year! As you are reading this, you will realize we are still shut down. Hopefully, we will be able to come back soon.

I would like to thank all the volunteers and people who sponsored our Christmas tree raffle/fundraiser and Dana Pratt for her outstanding decorating ability in the lodge for the holidays. To everyone that participated in the tree raffle, which was a huge success, we thank you very much.

See everyone next year.... bring on 2021! Sincerely,

CHEA –

The California –

Hawaii Elks Association is a charitable

organization serving children with disabilities since 1950.

With 168 lodges in 19 Districts (including the Islands of Guam and Philippines), the California-Hawaii Elks

Associa-tionCHEAserves disabled children, veterans, and our youth in wide range of activities. We are a proud organization

withroots back to 1868and thousands of Elks, who have not only helped millions of people, but are a social organization that enjoys the company of other Elks at our lodges where our meals and beverages support our growth and the community. B.P.O.E. stands forThe Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks(or as they are affectionately known, theBest People On Earth). Elks are American Citizens who want to save its great values; who love others and want to make sure they are healthy and happy; and who love life and want to contribute to it, as well as to share it. As a member, we find there is nothing better thanserving our communitythrough the various activi-ties and chariactivi-ties supported by our local Elks Lodge. The Cali-fornia-Hawaii Elks AssociationCHEAis best known for its sup-port of children with disabilities. Among these pages you will find many heartwarming stories and videos that relate to ourMajor Project, often referred to as ThePurple Pig. The Pur-ple Pig is the fundraising arm of this charitable work and serves as a reminder to the membership that our greatest joy is ingiving to and helping others. Whether you help through the various support methods such as ourBLT Legacy Giving Pro-gram, regularmonthly donations, filling the Purple Pig with the

“A Coin A Day so they can Walk, Talk, See and Play”, or simply using theGoodSearchSearch Engine–there are many ways to support the children and their families who may have had little hope without the CHEA intervention.

Happy New Year!

Hopefully, we will soon be able to meet again. We will be taking a break from meetings in January and meet again in Februaryto plan our fundraisers. As the second Sunday is Valentine’s Day, we will meet on the third Sunday of Febru-ary at 11am. Thank you to everyone who has worked hard on our projects and supported them this difficult year. It is amazing that we were able to accomplish as much as we did. The students, teachers and counselors are incredibly grateful.

A big thank you to everyone who helped us judge ENF Most Valuable Student Scholarships. The top applications are now being forwarded onto the district level which will be judging them later this month.

The California-Hawaii Elks Association (CHEA) has just re-leased the 2021-2022 Scholarship program for undergrad-uate students. The Undergradundergrad-uate Scholarship Program for Students with Disabilities has increased, and recipients may reapply each year they are in college (for up to 4 years of assistance). Applications must be postmarked by March 5, 2021. Note that this application also requires signature from a lodge official. Please spread the word about this wonderful scholarship!

Ladies of the Elks

A note from our lodge volunteer coordinator, Coco Eells:

Hello new and returning volunteers - we need you, we miss you, we appreciate and thank you!

Meals in December are scheduled on Monday,Wednesday,

Thursday & Sunday.

Please refer to calendar for menu information. A meal is provided to each kitchen volunteer.

Dinner volunteers are needed from 4pm to 7-ish for dinner and 9am to 1pm-ish for brunch, depending on the position. Dinners are served 5-7pm. In December brunch is served from 9am to Noon, a change from November’s serving time of 10am-2pm.

Sunday’s are a most challenging day to find brunch volun-teers, even just 2 or 3 hours of your time would make a huge help in serving our fellow Elks. If you’ve been wanting to flex your pancake making skills, Elks Lodge on Sunday is the place for you! Call me and we’ll make it happen.

Our Veteran’s Day dinner was a hit, thanks to our cook Keith and our fantastic group of volunteers. It was a special time of camaraderie to honor out many veterans, present & past, and active military where a good time and a good hearty meal was had by all!

Cashiers are also needed for all dinners and a greeter is needed for all meal services. Without greeters we wouldn’t be able to have meals at the lodge as this is a California State Health Department mandate during the Covid-19 epi-demic and our county restriction tier status, code purple. Please help if you can.

The Lodge provides gloves and face mask, ok to bring your own. Close toed shoes are required to work in the kitchen. Please let me know if you are available so I can put you on the schedule! If you would like to volunteer but are not yet available just let me know you are interested and I will put you on a list to check back with you at a later date.

The lodge appreciates your time and I look forward to volun-teering together.
