YOUNG CONTINENTAL

Overall, another very strong trade this week but a few less grazing men around the ring as potential purchasers wait for the recent rain to take its effect on pushing the grass through. Single Suckled cattle in excellent demand throughout and some tremendous prices were achieved, but buyers very selective of quality. Some super Blonde were forward and a great entry from Emma Dow, Petersfield saw her 9mo steers at £1065 and heifers to a blistering £918. Good Blonde x from Ivor Watson of Bromham 11mo and saw steers sold to £965 while heifers to £868. Philip Samways & family from Swanage again sending a great consignment of Simmentals 10 - 11mo. These best of types off the cliffs at Swanage were in great demand with plenty of steers over and topped at £985, heifers from the same home easily to £838. Local vendors Derek & Graham Stevens continue to supply super quality cattle with their Charolais steers at £1075 and Charolais heifers at £898! Terrific home bred Limousins continue to come time after time from Tom & Martin Bartlett of Weymouth, these tremendously well-bred cattle at just 11- 12mo produced wonderful bidding with steers at £1100, £1095, £1045, £960 and heifers £962, £895 and £860. Harder good summering types from Martin Plummer were in demand and all produced plenty of keen interest with steers at £878 and heifers at £735. A few more with horns today which just put some bidders off at this time of year.

(19)

Younger 4-6mo dairy bred British Blues from Nick Tuke and family were easily sold to a keen audience seeing steers at £620, £580, and heifers £495.

Overall, another great entry of cattle at Frome, we have had some rain, now we want the sunshine to work its magic!! Thanks to all who supported the sale again this week!

APRIL

Chaplain’s weekly Prayer and Reflection.

Heavenly Father, as we are approaching the season of Rogation, we ask that you, that great shepherd of the sheep, be alongside us as we await a change in the weather to refresh and allow our crops and livestock to grow.

We pray for all who are facing huge challenges in the wake of Brexit and all those who are involved in helping us with new ways of doing things. Help us to acknowledge and build on our rich heritage in both soil sustainability and livestock husbandry.

The survey and more information about taking part in the research is available here: https://bit.ly/2P7v0Si
