entire business is totally dependent on the

computer system and no work can be done

without it operating correctly. All administrative

and management staff should have a good

Information Systems courses are designed for

administrative, management and computer staff.

information systems in a business environment.

Programme Type

INTEC offers three types of programmes, namely National Qualifications, Provider Programmes, and Agent Programmes:

National Qualificationsare credit bearing qualifications

registered on the NQF and accredited by a Quality Assurance Body.

Provider Programmesare unique to INTEC and are designed to increase and enhance your skills and knowledge within your chosen field.

Agent Programmes are programmes and

qualifications for which INTEC offers tuition, but where INTEC does not issue the final certificate (the agent body issues the final certificate).

The Short Course in Introduction to Databases is

designed to provide students with an introduction to

database concepts and the relational database model.

Topics include QBE, SQL, normalisation, design

methodology, DBMS functions and database

administration. The course also includes topics such

as database management approaches, client/server

databases, object-oriented databases and data

warehouses. On successful completion of this

course, students should understand user database

requirements and translate these requirements into a

valid database design.

The Introduction To Databases (Short Course Certifi cate) programme is a Provider Programme.

Career Opportunities

Upon successful completion of this course, students will also be skilled and able to design and maintain their own databases. Large organisations have an IT department that analyse data for reporting. It is important to manage information databases effectively, as these information databases control the core of an organisation.

Good decisions require correct information derived

from raw facts known as data. Nothing is more

important and more central to an information system

than the data in the database. It is therefore important

to design databases correctly.

Programme Type

The Database Administration (Short Course Certifi cate) programme is a Provider Programme.

Career Opportunities

The Short Course in Database Administration will take students through the process of database development and implementation. They will gain hands-on experience with the exercises provided at the end of each chapter. Students will also be taught the skill to manage a database, using Microsoft’s SQL SERVER 2000.

managing, designing and implementing SQL Server

2000 database solutions.

Programme Type

The SQL Implementation programme is a Provider Programme.

Career Opportunities

The SQL Implementation course deals effectively with the process of database development and implementation. Students will gain hands-on experience with the exercises provided at the end of each chapter. They will also be taught the skill to manage a database, using Microsoft’s SQL SERVER 2000.

The Certifi cate in Information Systems Management

aims to give students grounding in the use and

application of computers. The course starts with

an Introduction to Computers and Information

Systems, covers fi nancial accounting and elementary

programming, and provides the basics for

managing information systems in business.

Career Opportunities

Useful for administrative staff who are keen on advancing their careers and taking on more responsibility, and who need to learn more. We are living in the information age. All businesses

require information systems in order to operate

effectively. Systems Analysis and Design is the process

of developing information systems that effectively use

hardware, software, data processes and people to

support the company’s business objectives. Systems

Analysis is normally done by a systems analyst working

in the IT department in conjunction with users from the

user department. Systems analysis processes involve

team work. A successful project team consists of

well-trained people from IT as well as user departments.

Assessment

Students are required to hand in 11 written assignments and write 1 formal exam. Please note that exams are written in July and November of each year. Once you have passed all your assignments, you should complete an examination entry form and submit it to the College, together with the prescribed examination fee, before the closing date for the next examination.
