How to join a course at The College

Once you have selected your course it could not be easier to join. Alongside each course

is a key that tells you how to apply for your course. Follow the diagram below to show how

you can join your course of choice.

Once we have received your application we will send you an appointment for your interview and, if required, your Maths and English assessment. The interview gives you the chance to meet the tutor and ask any questions you might have about the course. All learners are required to pay an admission fee of £10, which reserves your place on the course. Once the interview and any required assessment is completed you will be notified the outcome of your application. If successful, your offer will be either unconditional or conditional:

Unconditional Offer

If you have an unconditional offer you will be able to enrol at your interview session. Conditional Offer

A conditional offer means that we will offer you a place if you meet certain criteria, which are usually based on exam results. You will be required to bring your exam results to our enrolment sessions in August.

Turn up to one of our enrolment sessions from the end of August.

ENROLMENT

At our enrolment session you will complete our enrolment form and have your photograph taken for your student badge and arrange any financial assistance, free meals and transport. All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £10 (if not previously paid at interview stage). Please make sure you bring along with you any proof of benefits that your household may be entitled to or exam results you were awaiting.

START YOUR COURSE!

Full time courses start week commencing the 2nd September 2013, whilst part time courses will start week commencing 9th September 2013.

Beauty & Holistic

Therap ies

Over 250,000 people are employed in the Hair and Beauty Industry in the UK and it is

all about making people look and feel good. You need to have patience together with good

communication and listening skills so you can really understand your clients’ needs properly.

A caring, sensitive nature is considered very important in beauty therapy. You also have to be prepared to work hard – much of the work involves being on your feet all the time. This is a growth industry and there are excellent opportunities to train and develop new skills in many areas.

The College has three beauty salons and a training academy in Caerphilly Town Centre holding the most up to date equipment. All of our staff are highly skilled and have experience of working in the Beauty sector with many previously having their own business.

Counselling

Counselling provides a regular time and space for people to talk about their issues and

explore difficult feelings in an environment that is dependable, free from intrusion and

confidential. A counsellor should respect the viewpoint of their client while helping them to

deal with specific concerns, cope with crises, improve relationships, or develop better ways

of living.

Despite the name, counsellors don’t usually offer advice. Instead, they help to gain insight into feelings, thoughts and behaviour. They do this by listening to what the client has said and by helping the client develop different perspectives, insight and coping strategies to deal with issues that they face.
