Context Sensitive On-line Help
The Importance of Database Backups
One of the most important and critical topics in the on-line-help is Schedule Automatic Database Backups outlined in the System VII Client On-line Help. We cannot stress enough the importance of backing up your System VII database at regularly scheduled intervals and periodically copying the data to a removable storage device, such as a writable CD, or to a network location for safe keeping. Setting up a site can entail a lot of man-hours to input all the data, especially for sites that have hundreds, if not thousands, of cardholders. If the site data is not backed up, in the event of a computer or hard disk failure, all your site
information can be lost. Please be sure to read and follow the steps to backup your database. It’s time well spent.
Supplementary Documentation
The Keyscan System VII Software Installation CD has a folder with supplementary
documents. These supplementary documents can be found in the Keyscan Documents folder on the Software Installation CD. During the installation you can also access the folder by clicking on the Keyscan Documentation link on the Keyscan System VII Installation screen.
CCTV Integration (Install CCTV Setup)

If you have purchased the K-TV module and are integrating CCTV with the Keyscan access control system, you should review the information presented below concerning your type of platform.
Keyscan includes a PDF version of a CCTV Settings form located in the DVR folder on the Keyscan software installation CD. You can use this form to note applicable settings so you have a record when configuring the CCTV component in the Keyscan Client software.
DVRs (Keyscan supported manufacturers)
Keyscan integrates with specific brands of DVRs. To confirm whether your DVR is a Keyscan-supported DVR, open the DVR List read me file in the DVR folder on the Keyscan System VII software installation CD. These are the only DVRs that currently integrate with Keyscan. Refer to the specific DVR manufacturer readme file for driver installation
instructions so the DVR will integrate with the Keyscan software. Please be sure to follow the specific driver installation instructions before attempting to setup CCTV integration in the Keyscan Client software.
When you install the CCTV Setup from the Keyscan System VII software installation disk, the DVR drivers are copied by default to (C):\\ Program Files > Keyscan7 > DVR folder. For DVR and camera integration setup within the Keyscan access control system, refer to the on-line help in the Keyscan Client under CCTV.
IP-Addressable DVRs/IP-Addressable Cameras
Keyscan integrates with IP-addressable DVRs and IP-addressable cameras that support WEB-based MS Internet Explorer network connectivity. This format may require the DVR application to be installed on a PC with a connection to the Keyscan software PC.

If you have not established communication from the PC to the access control units (ACU), the main screen will display a message Communication Status – Failed with a date and time stamp. This message will continue to appear until you have a connection with the ACUs. It is intended as warning if the System VII software loses communication with the access control units. For system operation, the PC must be on and the Communication Manager(s) must be running indicated by the icon in the Windows tray. You can close the Client and the system will continue to operate.
New Installation on Multiple PCs
For a new installation on multiple PCs to derive the best system performance on a network, it is recommended to install the Communication Manager and the System VII Database (SQL Sever 2005 Express) on dedicated PCs. The Keyscan Client can be installed on multiple PCs.
Note
If you have not purchased the Photo Badging module, you may install it and use the map functions within the application to draw site plans and load them into the Alarm Response Instructions \ Alarm Graphic Locations form in the Client module. You cannot, however, import photobadge templates, use the photo verification feature, or import photos to cardholder records unless you purchase and register this optional module.
Keyscan strongly advises that you do not install the System VII software modules on your corporate server. If you are using TCP/IP communication, be sure to check that the IP address is active. To check, type IPCONFIG at the DOS prompt.
Influences on System Performance
System performance is governed by any and all of the following circumstances:
physical connections within the system – the number of connections and the types of connections: serial, network, and dial-up all influence system performance
the number of readers and panels per Communication Manager – the ratio will affect
performance and manageability as a higher ratio means a larger polling loop and longer response times
end-user expectations – how critical is the timing for reporting alarm events and site transactions
System performance is subjective and contingent on end-user expectations. How critical alarm and activity reporting are, can only be determined by the end-user.
Optimum Network System Configuration
As an alternative, if system resources are not available to install the System VII software as recommended, a Client can be installed on the same PC with the Communication Manager.
Alternative Network – Multi-PC Installation
Preplanning a Multiple PC Installation
We suggest pre-planning where you are going to install the various System VII modules before you start loading the software. You must install the System VII Database (SQL Server 2005 Express), the Communications Setup module, and a System VII Client in order to
