Zusammenfassung: The project is based on the demand from various sectors who work often with contractors and their non-native speaking workers. Communication is a problem and puts the security at risk. The increased mobility of workers in European countries stimulates this. The project is the development of a database containing key safety related words and phrases, translated in European languages, named Contracteranto. Contracteranto covers all sectors and focuses on high-risk tasks.
Beschreibung: The project is based on the demand from various sectors who work often with contractors and their non-native speaking workers. Communication is a problem and puts the security at risk. The increased mobility of workers in European countries stimulates this. The project is the development of a database containing key safety related words and phrases, translated in European languages, named Contracteranto. Contracteranto covers all sectors and focuses on high-risk tasks. Contracteranto doesn't aim at providing a full encyclopedy of technical jargon but focuses on communication between local workers and their temporary non-native speaking colleagues. Improved communications and enhanced language skills are also essential elements for a successful "Behaviour Based Safety" programme, as they help ensuring common understanding and focus on important Safety, Health and Environmental requirements. Contracteranto is a supportive communication mean and gives an answer to this issue.
This project is built in analogy with Transperanto.org (free registration). It was developed by CEFIC and ECTA. The aim was effective communication between the site personnel and the truck drivers which is essential for efficient operations, for site security and for ensuring the safety of the involved persons, the installation and the transport equipment.

- 4 sectors: construction, human health and care activities, metal sector and the chemical sector
- 7 languages: NL, FR, ENG, BG, TR, ES and PT
The aim is to extend the database after the project concerning sectors and languages. This is possible with minor costs because the software will be built in this way. Access to the
programme will be free.
The partners developing the content of the database are all representative for one sector. The partners who translate are organizations who can give the best support in dissemination and exploitation of the product.
