2 ANNOUNCEMENTS

CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS (ELW pg. 94)

In the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son,

and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

God of all mercy and consolation, come to the help of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that we may confess our sin, receive your forgiveness, and grow into the fullness of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

Amen.

Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. Most merciful God,

we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name.

Amen.

In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Let us pray.

O Lord God, you would have us put no trust in anything we do. Mercifully grant that by your power we may be defended against all adversity; through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

4 FIRST READING: Genesis 22:1-18

1

After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 2He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land

of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” 3

So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4

On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar. 5Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy will go over there and worship and come again to you.” 6

And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So they went both of them together. 7

And Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?”

8

Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together. 9When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10

Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. 11But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 12He said, “Do not lay your hand

on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” 13

And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son.

14So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this

day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.” 15

And the angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven 16and said, “By myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17

I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies,

18

and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.”

5 PSALM: Psalm 25:1-10

1

To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul; my God, I put my trust in you; let me not be humiliated, nor let my enemies triumph over me.

2

Let none who look to you be put to shame;

let the treacherous be disappointed in their schemes. 3

Show me your ways, O Lord, and teach me your paths.

4

Lead me in your truth and teach me,

for you are the God of my salvation; in you have I trusted all the day long. 5

Remember, O Lord, your compassion and love, for they are from everlasting.

6

Remember not the sins of my youth and my transgressions;

remember me according to your love and for the sake of your goodness, O Lord. 7

Gracious and upright is the Lord;

therefore he teaches sinners in his way.

8

He guides the humble in doing right and teaches his way to the lowly. 9

All the paths of the Lord are love and faithfulness to those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.

10

For your name’s sake, O Lord, forgive my sin, for it is great.

P: Here ends the reading of the Psalm.

C: Thanks be to God.

SECOND READING: James 1:12-18 12

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. 13

Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14

But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15

Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. 16Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers.

17

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. 18

Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

C: Thanks be to God.

P: The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the 1st chapter.

C: Glory to You, O Lord.

THE HOLY GOSPEL ACCORDING TO: Mark 1:9-15 9

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11

And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” 12

The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. 13And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him. 14

Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, 15

and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”

he descended into Hell On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

9 PEACE

THE HOLY COMMUNION

God feeds us with the presence of Jesus Christ.

THE WORDS OF INSTITUTION (ELW pg. 108)

In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying:

This cup is the new covenant in my blood,

shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.

LORD’S PRAYER

P: Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus taught us.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those

who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

10 INVITATION TO COMMUNION

Come to the Banquet, for all is now ready.

THE PARTAKING OF HOLY COMMUNION

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION (ELW pg. 114)

Gracious God, in this meal you have drawn us to your heart, and nourished us at your table with food and drink, the body and blood of Christ. Now send us forth to be your people in the world, and to proclaim your truth this day and evermore, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

Amen. BLESSING

The Lord bless you and keep you.

The Lord’s face shine on you with grace and mercy.

“ANOINTING SERVICES”

In continuation of Jesus’ and the Apostles’ ministry of anointing, we will

have an opportunity for anointing as directed by James 5:13-16. If you

desire this anointing (either for spiritual, physical healing, emotion or

mental) come to the altar rail on Saturday, February 27, 2021 or Sunday,

February 28, 2021, after you have received Holy Communion. When you

come to the altar rail – (you may either stand or kneel) – the pastor or elder

will come and anoint you with oil and pray for you. After the anointing, you

may return to your seat for silent prayer.
