Scholarship Information

Financial Edge, OHS's source for scholarships, provides students with an updated list.

Bridges provides users with personalized planning resources to access, explore, and structure a personal portfolio.

School Soup provides students with the most scholarships and other financial aid on the internet - over $32 billion in scholarship awards.

College & Career Room

The Oviedo High School College/Career Room has provided a much-needed service to the students at OHS since 1985. Staffed by Dividend volunteers, the College/Career Room is located in the Guidance Office. It is open daily.

All scholarship announcements will be posted in the Senior English classrooms and in the College room in Guidance. Don't let somebody else get the $ you deserve! Get these applications in!

Note: This is not a legal document, and specific details should be checked with the College Room, Mrs. Lightsey in Guidance, or the organization providing the scholarship.

Scholarship Update

The information below is updated weekly during the school year. Check back regularly to find new scholarship/grant opportunities.

Attention all students interested in obtaining scholarships for college: Your College Room is a valuable source of information on scholarships that we hope you will utilize. As we receive information on various scholarships, we will announce the basic information about them on WROR-TV. We will then post the announcement on our website, place a copy of the announcement in an orange binder in the college room, and ask senior English teachers to post it on their bulletin boards. Applications for the scholarships we announce will be on file in

the College Room, and adult dividends are available on most days to assist you in your search. Please take advantage of this service that will be offered throughout the year. See your counselor or Mrs. Lightsey in the Guidance Office for questions regarding scholarships.

Seniors are reminded that, in order to receive the Bright Futures Scholarship, they must go online and apply by graduation. Please see your guidance counselor if you have any questions regarding applying for Bright Futures.

Senior athletes, the BigSun Organization will award a $500 scholarship to a

deserving student who will be attending a postsecondary institution and is currently involved in some sport at that institution or in the community. Visit the college

room for more information on how to apply. Deadline is June 17th.

Attention seniors, the Panyha Foundation provides scholarships to student of Lao heritage who are enrolled in an accredited four year community college or

university and demonstrate a financial need. Application information is available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is June 15th.

If you are a senior who has been homeless during your school years, you may be eligible for the LeTenfre Scholarship sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth. Two $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to students who have demonstrated average or higher than average achievement. Applications are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is June 1st.

All students in grades 9-12 are invited to apply for the Gen and Kelly Tanabe Scholarship, named for the best-selling authors on education. This is a merit-based program that helps students fulfill their goals of attaining a higher education. The award is for $1,000, and you can obtain more information in the college room. Deadline to apply is July 31st.

Attention seniors interested in pursuing a law-related degree: The K. Hunter Goff Bankruptcy/Consumer Rights Scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded to a student who has at least a 3.0 GPA. You can obtain information about applying for the scholarship in the college room, and the deadline to apply is July 31st.

Attention seniors: Former Oviedo High School assistant principal Gerald

Cassanova was a man with a strong passion for the arts and education. The Gerald Cassanova Fine Arts Scholarship was established in his memory and will be

awarded to an OHS senior who has a minimum GPA of 3.0 and at least two credits in one of our fine arts programs. Applications are available in the college room and are due in the guidance office on April 15th.

Seniors, the Florida PTA offers four scholarship opportunities including one each for university, community college, fine arts, and vocational/technical. Factors considered will be financial need, scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities, and honors awarded. Applications for these $1,000 and $2,000

scholarships are available in the college room. Deadline to apply is May 1st.

Seniors, the Italian American Social Club of Central Florida will sponsor a $1000 merit scholarship for qualified and deserving students of Italian-American

ancestry. The award is based upon financial need, academic achievement, and extracurricular activities. Applications are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is May 2nd.

Attention seniors interested in pursuing a career in document management and graphic communication. The EDSF Scholarship Program will award several

scholarships on the basis of scholastic achievement, application essay, participation in school activities, community service, and recommendations. You can receive information about these scholarships in the college room. Deadline to apply is May 2nd.

Seniors the Fairwinds Credit Union is sponsoring an essay contest and will award two $1,000 scholarships. To enter, you must be a member of Fairwinds Credit Union. Applications and information about the essay topic are available in the

college room. Deadline to apply is May 6th.

Attention seniors, the Florida State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will award more than 25 scholarships to students for their outstanding academic achievements. Applications for the scholarships are in the

college room, and the deadline to apply is May 15th.

Seniors with a disability are invited to apply for a scholarship through the Johnson Scholarship Foundation. You may obtain more information about applying for this

scholarship in the college room. The deadline to apply is May 15th.

Attention senior girls interested in the fields of engineering and computer science: The Society of Women Engineers provides scholarships to women students

the scholarship is available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is May 16th.

Seniors, the P.B. Boston Scholarships will be awarded to deserving seniors in Seminole and Orange Counties based upon academic achievement, SAT or ACT scores, and an essay about their educational and career goals. Students applying for the need-based scholarship must also provide information about their parents’ income. Applications for the scholarships are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is May 21st.

Attention Seniors: Oviedo High School seniors who plan to attend Seminole State College have an opportunity to receive a $2,000 per semester scholarship. The National Christian Foundation will award the Robert E. and Jane S. Lee

Scholarship to an Oviedo High senior who has a 3.0 GPA and has a financial need. Applications for this scholarship are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is April 22nd.

Seniors, the Phil Cloninger Memorial Scholarship was established by the Oviedo/Winter Springs Regional Chamber of Commerce to be awarded to a

deserving local high school senior. The application for the $2,000 scholarship is in

the college room and must be submitted by April 8th.

Seniors, the law firm of Frank M. Eidson will award three scholarships worth a combined total of $3,000 to winners of their scholarship essay contest. Your

completed application with your essay must be submitted by April 15th, and more

information is available in the college room.

Attention college-bound seniors: The Masonic Fraternity of Orange, Seminole, and Osceola counties is sponsoring the Henry T. Weatherell Scholarship Program. Application packets are available in the college room for the $500 scholarship and

must be submitted by the April 30th deadline.

Attention seniors, if you are interested in a career in air traffic control or aviation, the Air Traffic Control Association offers several scholarship opportunities for you. Applications are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is May 1st.

Seniors, if you are a dependent of an Army soldier on federal active duty, a retiree, or a deceased active or retired soldier, you are eligible to apply for the MG James

Ursano Scholarship. Visit the college room for details about applying for the scholarship. Deadline to apply is May 1st.

Many of you will remember Oviedo High School 2013 graduate Matthew John Caselli who passed away last year. Matthew’s surviving brother and sister triplets, Mario and Meaghan, along with their parents, have funded a scholarship valued at $500 to honor Matthew’s legacy. To qualify, you must be an OHS senior, have a 3.0 GPA, demonstrate leadership in community service or other extracurricular activities, and plan to pursue an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice.

Applications are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is April 15th.

Attention seniors: Former Oviedo High School assistant principal Gerald

Seniors, the Kiwanis Club of Sanford is sponsoring an essay contest with an award of $1,000 to the writer of the winning essay. The essay is on the topic of volunteer services and the local community and must be received by the Kiwanis Club by the April 7th deadline.

Seniors, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Conference at All Souls Catholic Church in Sanford will award $1,000 scholarships to two students from schools located in the Diocese of Orlando. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, school and community activities, and personal qualities. Applications are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is April 8th.

Attention seniors, Give Kids A Chance is offering scholarship grants in the amount of $1,000 to high school seniors who have a documented financial need and at least a 2.5 grade point average. Information about the grants is available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is April 30th.

Attention all senior girls: The Suburban Republican Women’s Club will award a scholarship of at least $500 to a female who has shown leadership in school or extracurricular activities. Applications for the scholarship are in the college room

The Herbert Lehman Education Scholarship will be awarded to an African American senior with outstanding potential as evidenced by their academic records, test scores, and personal essays. Candidates must have a record of community service and school involvement. Applications are available in the

college room, and the deadline to apply is May 1st.

Attention all students grades 9-12: The American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring an essay contest on the topic “How do we keep Lincoln’s promise to our veterans and their families?”. Winners will receive a $50 cash prize, and you can visit the

college room for more information. The deadline to submit your essay is May 1st.

Seniors, the Children of Divorce Scholarship will be awarded by the Ayo and Iken PLC law firm. The scholarships, valued at $1000 will be awarded to two students who have experienced divorce in their families. Visit the college room for

information on applying, and the deadline is May 1st.

Attention all seniors who have achievements in academics, athletics, and the arts: a new scholarship in honor of retiring superintendent Dr. Bill Vogel will be

awarded to one Seminole County graduating senior. The winner of the $1,000 Bill Vogel AAA Scholarship must possess a 3.5 GPA, participation in one or more high school athletic programs, and participation in visual or performing arts. Visit the

college room today to pick up your application. Deadline to apply is April 1st.

Seniors interested in running are invited to apply for the Charles M. Rowson, Jr. Memorial Scholarship of $500 that is offered by the Orlando Runners Club. The application for the scholarship is in the college room and must be submitted by the April 12th deadline.

Attention all seniors, the 2011 Fleet Reserve Association offers several

scholarships to children and grandchildren of members of the United States Navy, Marine Corps or Coast Guard. Applications for the scholarships are available in

the college room and must be submitted by the April 15th deadline.

Seniors, the Replace My Contacts Scholarship of $1000 will awarded to the winner of an essay contest. Information about the contest is in the college room, and the deadline for submission of the essay is April 15th.

Attention students interested in studying design and arts disciplines in college: Worldstudio Foundation, in conjuction with AIG, the professional association for

design, provides scholarships to minority and economically disadvantaged students in the amount of $2000-$3000. Applications are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is April 22nd.

Attention juniors and seniors: The Fountainhead Essay Contest is sponsored by the Ayn Rand Institute and will award scholarships ranging from $10,000 for first prize to smaller awards for finalists and semifinalists. To enter the contest, you will select one of three topic that will demonstrate a grasp of the philosophic

meaning of The Fountainhead. Information is available in the college room, and

the deadline for entries to be submitted is April 29th.

Attention seniors: The Pearlie’s Lift Up Scholarship will be awarded to a

deserving student who has struggled personally or academically in school, given back through service to his or her community, and wants a second chance in furthering his or her education. Applications are in the college room, and the deadline to apply is April 30th.

If you are a senior with hemophilia, von Willebrands or other related hereditary bleeding disorders, you are eligible to apply for a scholarship through the

Hemophilia Foundation of Greater Florida. Awards will be based upon merit, need, community service and aspirations reflected in an essay. Information about applying for the scholarship is available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is April 30th.

Seniors, if you are planning to attend a Florida public institution and your parent is a full-time employee of the Seminole County Public School district, you are

invited to apply for the Seminole Association of School Administrators

Scholarship. Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded on the basis of financial need and academic performance. You can obtain an application in the college room, and the deadline to apply is April 8th.

Attention all students, you are invited to enter an essay contest sponsored by the American Foreign Service Association (AFSA). Awards include a $2,500

scholarship, an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., and an all-expense paid educational voyage courtesy of Semester at Sea. Information about the essay contest is available in the college room, and the deadline for submission is April 6th.

Attention seniors of African-American descent: The Kappa Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will be awarding scholarships based upon grade

point average, achievement in extra-curricular activities, and an essay.

Applications are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is April 8th.

Seniors, the Johnson Scholarship Foundation will award scholarships to deserving children of UPS employees. You can obtain more information about these

scholarships in the college room. Deadline to apply is April 15th.

Attention all seniors, the 2011 Fleet Reserve Association offers several

scholarships to children and grandchildren of members of the United States Navy, Marine Corps or Coast Guard. Applications for the scholarships are available in

the college room and must be submitted by the April 15th deadline.

Attention seniors planning to attend FSU, UF, FAMU, FGCU, TCC, or SFCC: The Southern Scholarship Foundation offers scholarships to students with a financial need who are accepted into these universities and community colleges.

The priority deadline is March 1st, but applications are accepted year-round.

Attention all students interested in receiving scholarships for college: The months of February and March are important times for applying for scholarships. Many of the scholarships awarded by local clubs and organizations are offered during this time, and several are offered specifically to Oviedo High School students. Make time to visit the college room to take advantage of these scholarship opportunities! Seniors, Suntrust Bank is sponsoring a sweepstakes in which fifteen drawings will be held with one winner of a $1,000 scholarship chosen every two weeks from October 30th until May 13th.
