Jonathan Charles
Year 4, Structural Engineering
Concentric Associates International Incorporated
Ottawa, ON
Jonathan Charles
is completing an internship with the consulting firm
Concentric Associates International Incorporated in Ottawa, ON.
During his internship he has worked on projects such as concrete rehabilitation, roof replacements and inspections, surveying and steel design.
Jonathan believes the biggest benefit of participating in an internship is the real-world experience you gain and engineering concepts you learn that are not taught in school.
“The biggest thing I have learned working at Concentric is how to
apply the theoretical knowledge I learned at Western with real-world
applications. I have also learned it is important to be punctual and
organized to ensure my work runs smoothly. The year of work can also
be used towards my PEng license and I now have contacts and networks
already established in the industry when I graduate from Western.”
Jennifer Ng
Year 4, Mechanical Engineering
Trudell Medical International
London, ON
Jennifer Ng
is working with Trudell Medical International, a medical
device developer and manufacturer focused in aerosol drug delivery for
treatment of asthma and other respiratory ailments.
Throughout her internship, Jennifer performed a key role in product development where she conducted performance testing of medical devices at various development stages. She also put her CAD skills to use by developing testing fixtures to support new device development.
Jennifer has benefited most from participating in the real-world application of engineering principles as well as the social interactions with engineers and other technical staff at Trudell.
“I chose to participate in the internship program because
I wanted to have some engineering job experience before
I graduated. Although it has added another year to my studies,
it was nice to have an income and the length of the program
allowed me to see my projects through from beginning to end.
Over the course of my internship, I have learned the value of problem
solving. I have a greater understanding of the importance of testing
during product development and the process of product design.
I would highly recommend an internship to other students!”
