This position within ITPS-Desktop Enterprise Solutions provides computer, network and firewall consulting services to clients throughout the campus. Work will be predominantly performed independently at customer sites. Analyze, plan, design, develop, test, implement, administer, secure and troubleshoot desktop, laptop, server and hand-held computer systems and PDAs and associated hardware, operating systems and software. Provide network and firewall support, integration and consulting services. Provide campus Cyber-Safety and other information technology security support and consulting

services.

This is one of five positions in ITPS providing support and trouble shooting.

Essential

Responsibilities:

40% Computer Systems Consulting

Provide computer support and consulting services using client and/or department timelines, standards and guidelines.

Analyze, plan, design, develop, test, implement, administer, secure and troubleshoot desktop, laptop, server and hand-held computer systems and PDAs and associated hardware, operating systems and software.

Plan, design, write, edit and maintain internal, support-user and end-user documentation and instructions.

Plan, design, write and present project proposals, service agreements and work status reports.

Recommend and/or establish computer usage, system administration, backup, disaster recovery/business continuity and security policies and procedures.

Plan, write and present computing system hardware and software purchase recommendations.

Plan, document and teach computer technical information and courses to individuals and groups.

Maintain billing records.

Attend and participate in client and department meetings. Attend, participate, speak at and host technical forums and symposia related to computer system administration. Provide other similar services

assigned by supervisor or other designated managerial staff. 35% Network and Firewall Systems Consulting

Provide network and firewall support, integration and consulting services.

Work in close coordination with Communications Resources' Network Operations Center on firewall implementations.

Analyze, plan, design, develop, test, implement, administer, secure and troubleshoot department-level and division-level network infrastructure and firewalls.

Investigate, analyze, define and resolve network hardware and software problems.

Plan, design, write, edit and maintain internal, support-user and end-user documentation and instructions.

Plan, design, write and present project proposals, service agreements and work status reports.

Recommend and/or establish network and firewall usage, administration and security policies and procedures. Plan, write and present network and firewall purchase recommendations.

Plan, document and teach network technical information and courses to individuals and groups.

25% Cyber Safety and information Technology Security Consulting Provide campus Cyber-Safety and other information technology security support and consulting services.

Work in close coordination with the Campus' Information Technology Security Coordinator and the Data Center's security team.

Analyze, plan, design, develop, test, implement, administer, secure and troubleshoot department-level and division-level intrusion prevention systems, intrusion detection systems and other security software.

Investigate, analyze, define and resolve problems.

Plan, design, write and present project proposals, service agreements and work status reports.

Recommend and/or establish local security policies and procedures. Plan, document and teach information security courses to individuals and groups.

Physical Demands:

Reach, bend, and stoop to work with equipment mounted in computer racks and access and work with equipment that may be located

anywhere from the bottom (floor level) to the top of 7-foot high racks. Read CRT and LED screens for extended periods of time.

Lift computer equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment:

Due to the mission-critical services provided by this department, this position may work hours other than M-F 8-5, especially in response to system problems.

Routinely on-call and carry pager/cell phone.

Work site varies from central campus, Sacramento UCD Medical Center, and at other UC sites.

Travel between campus and off-campus locations.

Valid CA driver's license; participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

-Advanced experience performing needs analyses, system planning, design, procurement, testing, implementation, administration, troubleshooting, problem remediation, documentation & capacity planning with the following:

- Advanced experience in MS OS & environments, including

Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server, Windows 2008 Server & associated hardware (incl. laptops, desktops, PDAs & servers).

complex Active Directory environments.

- Advanced experience with high network hardware & software; network firewall appliances; with network SSL VPN appliances. - Advanced experience with laptops & desktop systems running Mac OS 10.4 & 10.5

- Advanced experience with Blackberry & iPhone PDAs.

- Advanced experience to assess client needs & expectations, plan, write & present researched, documented & project proposals, service agreements, project plans & status reports

Qualifications for Selection:

Diplomatic communication & interpersonal skills to provide technical support.

Organizational skills to coordinate several activities with strict deadlines, complex scheduling requirements.

Skills to assimilate complex technical concepts, terms & material & explain this material to non-technical clients conducive to learning & understanding.

Experience with MS Exchange versions 2003 & 2007.

Experience working with Web sites, pages & applications, including use of two or more development languages, tools & environments: HTML, ASP, Cold Fusion, JavaScript & PHP.

Load planning with Apache & MS Internet Information Server web servers. Correcting & documenting MS SQL Server databases. Coding & debugging of Visual Basic or Perl scripts & programs. Experience with complex switched & routed IP network topologies. Understanding of IP layer-2 & layer-3 network management, routing protocols, DNS & NAC.

Experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting & performing basic maintenance on networked printers, similar hardware devices. Skills to assess computer system security; plan, design & recommend, test, implement, document & maintain operating & application

security policies, procedures & practices additionally to maintain anti-virus, personal firewall & similar software security programs.

Skills to integrate computer & network systems with campus

middleware services: 'secureweb', LDAP, CAS & campus root Active Directory.

Skills to integrate department applications & systems with the campus' primary administrative applications.

Experience using & supporting MS Office 2007 applications.

Implement accurate, secure, cost-effective & timely solutions. Provide excellent technical support to executives, senior managers & directors.

Assimilate complex technical concepts, terms & material & accurately & succinctly explaining this material to non-technical clients in a manner conducive to their learning & understanding it.

Present well-researched, well-documented & well-written project proposals, service agreements & subsequent project plans & status reports.

Accurately, clearly & concisely present information in an appropriate style & content to audiences in order to effect an optimal learning environment.
