INTRODUCTION

Select City walk is a premier shopping mall located in the Saket District Centre in Saket, New Delhi .The retail

development is spread over and includes a multiplex, serviced apartments, offices and public spaces. The mall was developed by Select Infrastructure, a joint venture between the Select group and the Aarone group. It is currently the most expensive mall in Delhi, with rentals rates between Rs 650-Rs 750 per sq. ft. per month. It opened to the public in October 2007. It is a 1.3 million Sq. ft. air-conditioned, vibrant and upscale

destination Shopping Centre.

Select Citywalk is located in the Saket District Centre, in one of the upcoming middle class neighborhood of Saket in south Delhi . The other neighboring malls include the MGF Metropolitan Mall and the DLF Courtyard which is yet to be opened.

The planning of the SCW mall is divided into 4

categorization-1. Family & tradition space 2. Celebration (centre-sage) 3. High-voltage (youth)

4. Open plaza/ Landscaped area (ground floor) BUT, the actual planning is different from concept planning.

FEATURES

• There are eight anchor tenants including Good earth Verandah, Pantaloons, Crossword Bookstore, Mother care, Arcelia, and Home Stop.

• The mall also has 125 stores representing over 500 major Indian and international brands of clothes and apparels.

• The mall has a multi-cuisine food court, Food Talk, on the second floor, along with several restaurants.

• The mall also houses a PVR Cinemas multiplex, which comprises six screens including 2 gold classes and has a total seating capacity of 1,235.

The entrance to select citywalk has been well planned in terms of segregation of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

• The vehicles may be handed over to “valet

parking service” or may be parked by the people themselves.

• There is a convenient “Drop off point” service, wherein, the car drivers can drop the users at the entry and further move toward the car parking. • The pedestrians can enter the mall using a ramp

which joins the main walkway running along the mall. This is an effort to make the circulation handicap friendly.

There is also a outdoor open plaza, Sanskriti, for art

festivals, fairs, exhibitions, performances, and al fresco dining. The plaza is

landscaped extensively in

timber, water, stone and steel and has an open–air

amphitheater, along with trees and water features.

which are visible from a distance governing the external elevation.

• Since the site is located near qutub minar, the architects have tried to use this element in select citywalk

façade. The building is finished externally in polished granite dry type

cladding(slabs)two colours.

• The lower levels have been given more transparent look with large glaze part being offered to

foyer/food court.

• Upper level of façade has been provided for advertisements, forth coming attractions and cinema posters.

• At the lower level below the curtain glazing space frames have been proposed, which

increase the visual scale and the aesthetic appeal.

The stores in select citywalk were a repetition of few module types. We were able to identify 5 types of modules and their floor wise distribution is as follows:
