ART.2) The "Pausilypon” International Piano Contest is open to pianists of all nationalities born from the 1st January 1971 onwards. There are three rounds:
Preliminary Round (maximum 30 minutes)
• Domenico Scarlatti: One Sonata of the contestant’s own choice
• Two studies: one from Chopin op.10 or op.25 and the other chosen among those by Mendelssohn, Schumann, Liszt, Brahms, Martucci, Sgambati, Debussy, Szymanovsky, Scriabin, Liapunov, Rachmaninov, Prokofiev, Bartok, Casella. Ligeti .
• 1st movement of a Sonata by Mozart, Haydn, Clementi or Beethoven.
• One composition of the contestant's own choice Semifinals (maximum 50 minutes)*
• In addition to the Complete Sonata (from which one movement was performed in the Preliminary Performance) the candidates must perform at least one piece from the Romantic Period and also one piece from the Modern Period. Finals (maximum 55 minutes)**
• A programme of the candidate’s choice excluding the works of the preliminary and semifinal works, plus one work composed and published after 1900 (any nationality).
Round unless the jury decides otherwise
** A maximum of five candidates will be chosen for the Final Round unless the jury decides otherwise.
All compositions must be performed from memory.
The Examining Committee’s judgement is final. The judgement in the preliminary and semifinal round is by “yes” and “no”.
FACILITIES
All finalists will be given a 50% refund of travel expenses (up to Euro 200,00), board and lodging (up to Euro 50,00 daily for maximum three days).

During the contest further pianos will be available for practicing in other halls at the "ALBERTO NAPOLITANO PIANOFORTI & Co. Piazza Carità, 6 and at the “Centro Italiano di Musica da Camera-Biblioteca Mario Pilati” Via Maddaloni, 6 (close to Via S. Anna dei Lombardi).
AWARDS
1st Prize: Euro 5,000.00 and several performances 2nd Prize: Euro 2,500.00
3rd Prize: Euro 1,000.00
Prize-giving ceremony recital winner 2008: 19th December 2008 at 5:30 p.m.
ART.3) The Examining Committee which is nominated by the Association A.C.I.S.A.M., together with the Artistic Director will agree upon the manner in which the performances are held and the manner of voting.
The Artistic Director will be part of the Examining Committee and will have the power to vote.
The Examining Committee’s decisions are final and not
appealable and it has the right to interrupt a performance or request a performance to be repeated.
The Examining Committee’s members must not be related or have had any contact with any of the candidates.
Otherwise, the member will not vote and the fact recorded in the Examining Committee’s records.
ART.4) Booking to be arranged through the Secretary’s office. Candidates will be called to perform in alphabetical order. Candidates not present when called to perform will be excluded (unless the delay is due to proven causes beyond their control and the final assessment has not already started). Before the contest, candidates must submit copies of works chosen to be performed and a valid identification document. Prizes cannot be divided (unless the jury decides otherwise) and will be assigned according to the A.C.I.S.A.M. Association decisions and will be awarded exclusively at the Prize-giving ceremonies and recitals given by the winning candidates. Should a candidate not appear at the Prize-giving ceremony recital, he will forfeit.
ART.5) Enrolment in this contest obliges the candidates to adhere to the regulations. There will be no compensation should there be any radio or television recordings.
The A.C.I.S.A.M. cannot be responsible for any delays in communication caused by the post etc., the interested party should contact A.C.I.S.A.M. in English by FAX Nos. +39 081640044 / +39 0812482756 or by e-mail stating the situation.
The A.C.I.S.A.M. cannot by responsible for any accidents or damages caused to the candidates during the sessions.
The Artistic Director reserves the right if necessary to make any changes to the present regulations informing the candidates immediately or cancelling the competition should this be necessary, in which case candidates will have their quota refunded.
In case of claims or objections the only official and legally applicable regulations are those written in Italian.

Candidates can stay at the Residence San Carlo flats which are
very close to the place of the competition. Each flat (suitable for a
maximum of four people) is equipped with two bedrooms, one
bathroom and a kitchenette. Some flats have a piano with
headphones for daily practicing (these flats are available for the
first ones who book and make an explicit request). When making
your reservation, please point out whether you want to share the
