Amy I took this photo on holiday. It was a Sunday and we had a big breakfast that day! There are lots of good things to eat on the table. The woman on the right is Tina. She’s my mum. She’s wearing a white t-shirt and she’s smiling.

The little girl on the left is my sister Anna. She’s looking at Mark. He’s my dad. She’s very happy!

My dad Mark is behind Anna. He’s making breakfast for all the family. He loves cooking! My brother Ben is between mum and Anna. He’s got dark hair and he’s wearing a white t-shirt. Ben and Anna are younger than me.

Tom We had a great time yesterday! Look, this is my favourite photo. It was a sunny day and we were in the park. That’s me in the middle, between the two girls. I’m wearing a shirt and blue and white shorts. This boy here with black hair and a blue t-shirt, that’s Jack. Jack’s really good at sport. Jack is Daisy’s brother. Daisy is the girl next to me with long, curly hair. She’s tall, like me and she’s wearing a light green top. Then the other girl is Lily. Lily’s got long hair and she’s sitting between Jack and me. She’s very nice and she looks happy in this picture. Paul is on the right, next to Daisy. He isn’t very tall and he’s got short, brown hair. You can see we all had great fun!

Student We’re going on a school trip soon. The English teacher told us about it today. Mum That’s nice.

Student Mmm. Perhaps, but it isn’t a very interesting trip.

Mum Where are you going?

Student We’re going to the theatre to see a performance of a book we’re studying at school.

Mum You’ll enjoy that.

Student I don’t think so. I’ve read the book and I didn’t like it much. Anyway, I prefer fi lms. They’re more exciting.

Mum So, when is the trip?

Student It’s on the fourteenth of October, I think that’s a Wednesday.

Mum Is it in the evening?

Student No, it’s in the afternoon. It’s a special performance for school students. Mum Where is the theatre?

Student It’s in Manchester. We’re going there by coach and the journey will take about an hour and a half.

Mum What time will you get back to school? Student Quite late, I think. At about nine thirty,

the teacher said.

Mum Has the teacher booked the tickets? Student Yes, she has. The tickets are twelve

pounds each and the coach costs eight pounds so we have to pay twenty pounds all together.

Mum Fine. Do you have to take anything? Student We have to take some money to buy a

snack in a café because we mustn’t eat on the coach. We don’t have to take any pens or books.

Mum Great. I think you’ll have fun. You haven’t been on a school trip for ages.

They built the town so that people don’t need to use cars.

Girl A town without cars!

Logan Almost. I think towns are better without cars. Another good thing about the town was that there were lots of things to do. The sports centre was enormous. Joe My holiday this year was a bit diff erent. I went on an adventure holiday and it was brilliant! I didn’t go with my friends or family, I went alone and I made a lot of new friends. There were ten of us in the group and we had two teachers with us all the time. We went camping for a week – this was a real adventure for me. It was my fi rst time camping! Our camp was in a forest near a lake. We had to cook our food and look after the camp. During the morning, we learnt about the wild animals and birds in the forest. One of the teachers talked to us about the plants and trees, then we made some things with wood. That was really interesting. In the afternoons, we did activities like mountain biking, swimming in the lake and walking in the hills. We didn’t have electricity in the camp and we couldn’t use our mobile phones but that wasn’t a problem for me. We were very busy all day and in the evenings, we played games. It was a great holiday and I want to go there again next year.
