This CD-ROM contains the contents of MathsWorld Mathematical Methods Units 3 & 4 and two Technology Toolkits as Adobe Reader Portable Document Format (PDF) files, which are designed for viewing onscreen. Seventeen PDFs are supplied. Each PDF is named according to its chapter number or toolkit name. Note that the programs mentioned in the margins of the book are only available on the Teacher edition CD-ROM. Networking: This CD-ROM is a ‘Shared Network Resource’. This means that the PDF files can be copied onto a network server (under the Licence: Conditions of use), and thus be used over a network, by computers on the network that have Adobe Reader v5.0 or above installed.. 2. About Adobe Reader. Adobe Reader is available free of charge from Adobe website at www.adobe.com. This site also gives technical information about the software, and assistance with using it. Note that as Adobe Reader is freely available, you can copy the application from any computer on which it is installed to any other computer, including students’ own computers.. 3. How to use this CD-ROM. 3.1 Opening the PDF files To open a PDF file, with the CD-ROM in the CD-ROM disk drive, open the drive’s window and double-click on the PDF file icon (assuming you have Adobe Reader installed on your computer). Alternatively, and especially if double-clicking the icon fails to open the file, start Adobe Reader, following the commands in your operating system for running an application. Then: • click on Open in the File menu • in your CD drive, locate and select the file you want to open.

(2) Page 2 •. click Open and away you go.. To copy the PDF files from the CD-ROM onto your hard disk (under the Licence: Conditions of Use): i. The CD-ROM must be in the CD drive.. ii. Decide where you want to locate the copy on your hard disk. It’s advisable to create a new folder (directory) for it in your hard disk (c:\).. iii. Drag and drop the PDF file icon from the CD-ROM drive to the desired location, or use the Copy command in your operating system’s file management application.. iv. Remove the CD-ROM and store it in a safe place as a back-up.. v. Double-click on the PDF file on your hard disk to open the file, or use the alternative method described above.. vi. You are now ready to use the files.. 3.2 Using Adobe Reader The Adobe Reader Help in the Help menu gives an overview of using Adobe Reader. If you rest the cursor on the toolbar buttons at the top of the screen, a label describing their functions will appear. (You may need to turn this function on first. In Windows, for instance, you need to turn on the Show Balloons option in the Help menu). For optimum viewing onscreen, select Fit Page Width in the view menu, or the appropriate button on the toolbar. If any fonts or fine detail are too small to read comfortably, change the magnification using the zoom buttons or the same commands in the Tool menu.. 4. System requirements. Microsoft Windows™ 98® or above Mac OS 9 or above Adobe Reader v5.0 or above. 5. Troubleshooting. We have created the files on this CD-ROM and checked them in the software described above. In case of any problems arising in opening the files (see section 3.2), or of viewing them correctly onscreen, you should in the first instance check the onscreen help, manuals or technical support for Adobe Reader, for your printer or platform. If the problem is associated with using the CD-ROM on a network, consult your network administrator to rule out networking problems. If you can not resolve the problem through these sources of help, even though you have the appropriate software application, please send an email to help.secondary@macmillan.com.au, detailing the nature of the problem and the hardware/software you are using.
