Hello fellow trudgers!

Thank you so much for allowing my registration for NERAASA being held March 26-28th! This was my third year in attendance and each time I have learned so much more than the previous year.

I am looking forward to sharing the knowledge I obtained with various coordinators in our district!

While attending the DCM roundtable on Friday and Saturday nights, I realize how very fortunate District 23 is in that we have so much participation in our district compared to many that attended.

I salute all of the Officers, GSRs, and Coordinators for their valued time that continues to help our district in carrying the message to their homegroups and committees. Always remember, it is the collective group conscious that makes the important decisions in Alcoholics Anonymous!

Remember PCAW is scheduled for March 19th to the 22nd. Registration is free! I hope many of you will be there to help our delegate in carrying our area's decisions to the General Service Conference later this year.

Gratefully in love and service,

Marcia W., DCM

I want to start out by saying it’s an honor and a privilege to serve the district in this capacity. Service is a huge part of

maintaining my recovery. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to represent the district as alternate DCM. I pray I am able to

uphold the standards of my predecessor whom I have deep respect and love for. I’ve learned from my previous experience attending NERAASA and NERF that only a small percentage of our fellowship take on the responsibility of filling service positions. My homegroup knew before I did that what was best for me. They decided for me five years ago that I was going to be a GSR. Straight out of prison, I was deeply humbled and scared attending the district meeting every month. That was the beginning of my journey in service. I will

be forever grateful to them. I have rotated positions multiple times since and have learned from every one of them. I have learned from watching other people in service being selfless and humble. I can only hope someday to be that person.

Sincerely,

Julian U.

Jails, Institutions and Death

…OH MY…

Hospitals and Institutions aka H&I (aka the pink can.)

“I was placed in a nationally known hospital for the mental and physical rehabilitation of alcoholics.” …”trembling, I stepped from the hospital a broken man”…“After a time, I returned to the hospital. This was the finish, the curtain it seemed to me” (Bill’s Story)

Bill’s story strikes a personal chord that resonates in my past life before I surrendered to a new way of life. It resonates with most of us blessed enough to find these rooms. Our situations and experiences may all be vastly different, but Bill W.

assures us that if we continued to drink, the outcomes will be the same, and we don’t get to choose which one we end up with. H&I has coordinator positions open on a rotating schedule, the pink can is be found at our in-person meetings, scan the QR code on next page to donate via Venmo, please give if you can. If you are interested in going into a rehabilitation center to be of service to the sick and suffering, please email the address on the bottom of this article and I will be happy to get you to the right people to promote being of service.

Service for jails and prisons: If you are willing to be the hand of A.A., 'when anyone reaches out for help' on the "inside" to the "outside", try a correspondence relationship to carry the message via postal mail to prospects in jails and prisons. It provides comfort, hope and care for inmates who may have lost human connection as a direct result of their alcoholism. Please go to the website:

https://www.wpaarea60.org/corrections/ or complete the form in the following page and mail to address provided. A message from Area 60’s CORRECTION

CORRESPONDENCE PROGRAM

In an effort to help AA members “behind the walls” we would like to suggest starting to correspond with inmates as a home group. If you are interested, please contact GSO corrections correspondence (212-870-3400) to find out more information.

If we write as a group, the inmate will receive 20 responses instead of one. What do you think? Talk to your home group and let’s get things moving! Thank you, Corrections Coordinator

(corrections@wpaarea60.org)

“He may not see it at once, that he has barely scratched a limitless lode which will pay dividends only if he mines it for the rest of his life and insists on giving away the entire product.” (pg.129 Big Book) District 23 and AA as a whole have opportunities available for the members of our fellowship to actively be involved with prospects who have wound up in jails and institutions. “Most of us have entered the final stage with its commitment to health resorts, sanitariums, hospitals, and jails…Death was often near.”

(pg.107 Big Book)

“Helping others is the foundation stone of your recovery. A kindly act once in a while isn’t enough. You have to act the Good Samaritan every day, if need be.” (pg. 97 Big Book)
