BOARD MEETINGS

are typically held the third Monday of each month

at the

Miami Township Library at6 PM

Upcoming:

March 21 & April 18 Spring is on the way! It’s been a long winter, and the Library has lots of

programs to enjoy while we wait for warmer weather.

Did you know the 200th anniversary of President U.S. Grant’s birthday is April 27? Did you know Grant was born in Clermont County? A group of citizens from across the county is planning events to celebrate Grant’s birthday and his contributions to this country. The Library is a part of this celebration and has several programs planned for you to enjoy this spring and summer. We hope you attend one or more of these informative events. See a list of programs in this Library Insider.

We have many other programs planned this spring. Steve Newman will be at our Bethel Branch April 11 to talk about his walk around the world that ended 35 years ago this year. Known as the Worldwalker, he will share stories about his journey and answer questions.

Peter Bronson, local author and former editor at the Cincinnati Enquirer, will visit the Miami Township Branch March 28 to discuss his book about the Beverly Hills Supper Club that burned in May 1977 and killed 165 people.

If you enjoy crafts, the Library can be the place to learn new things. Join us to discover Origami and Kirigami, make a silhouette portrait using 21st century technology, explore 3D printing, create a spring wreath, and learn diamond painting, just to name a few.

Visit the Library to learn how to make soap from goat’s milk, plan your garden, and learn more about how bees are good for your flowers and vegetables.

We are partnering with Inter Parish Ministry and the Freestore Foodbank to offer a mobile food pantry in the parking lots of the New Richmond Branch Library March 18 and at the Williamsburg Branch Library April 20, both from 10 am to 12 pm We are proud to be able to offer another service that can help our communities thrive.

I’m also very proud that we have been able to assist the Ohio Department of Health in the distribution of COVID-19 test kits. We will continue to distribute tests as they become available. Watch our website for updates.

Enjoy your spring and make a note to stop by your local branch soon to see what’s in store for you and your family at the Library.

Reading to your child is one of the best ways to boost their brainpower. It’s fun for you and your child and helps your child learn pre-reading skills like understanding letter sounds, vocabulary development, and building background knowledge. These skills will help your child when it’s time to start kindergarten.

1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN Our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a great place to start. It might sound like a daunting task, but it’s not. If you read a book a night to your child, you’ll hit this goal in 3 years. By signing up for this program, your child will get rewarded along their journey. Register your child for the program and track his or her progress. Each time you read 100 books, your child will receive a sticker and a special reward. When you read 1,000 books, your child will receive a free book and we will celebrate with them. This program is open to any child who has not started kindergarten. You can register for the program at any of our branches or online.

PLAY AND LEARN Play and Learn is another way to help prepare children for reading and school. We are excited to announce that additional Play and Learn sessions are on our schedule. CoStars by the Children’s Home host these sessions, and they are for children age birth to six. Children won’t even realize they are learning because they will be having fun singing songs, listening to stories, creating art, and playing. Play and Learn is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. March 4 and 18 at Bethel, and for 10:30 a.m. April 1 and 15 at Amelia. Space is limited. Register your child on our website.

IMAGINATION LIBRARY Your child, age 0 to 5, will receive a package addressed to them each month containing a

free book from the Imagination Library. It’s a book they can keep and enjoy every day. Listening to you read

the story in each book helps them develop the skills needed to be successful in school. Visit our website, clermontlibrary.org, and sign up today. The first book will arrive in six to eight weeks.

STORYTIMES Don’t forget that we offer in-person and virtual Storytimes for your children to enjoy. Check our online event calendar for dates and times.

Reading

& School Readiness

The American Library Association recommends five early literacy practices in their Every Child Ready to Read program:

TALK | SING | WRITE | PLAY | READ

These are things you can easily do during a normal day - at meals, diaper changes, bath time - that will be fun for your child

while also teaching early literacy skills.

Find more resources to help your child in our School Readiness booklet, which is full of tips, games, activities, and book suggestions for your children to build their skills. It’s available in our branches and the Early Literacy and School Readiness section of our website.

School Readiness includes all the skills a child needs to be prepared for school: academic, physical, social, and emotional development.

The Clermont County Public Library wants to help families by providing

them with the tools they need to get their children

ready for school.
