Peace and Justice Care for God’s Creation 21-Day Challenge - Week 1
While you are working on the 21
Day Challenge, you might be wondering what other habits you can adopt to be a better steward of the environment. For the next three weeks, we’ll share opportunities to make the most of your time and efforts. This week, we’re tackling recycling. For Canton Township and many other neighboring communities, we have single stream recycling. This makes it very easy to remember to recycle as you can put your bin out with the trash.
However, an entire bin of recycling can end up in the landfill if you don’t follow a few guidelines:
Do’s and Don’ts of Recycling:
x Rinse out your jars and containers. You don’t have to add soap or scrub too heavily, but be sure to make sure sticky substances like honey or peanut butter are tackled with a scrub brush.
x Do not put boxes which have food residue on them in the bin.
This includes pizza boxes. x Items that can get tangled up in
other recyclables should not be put in the bin. This includes cords, ties, plastic bags, and wire hangers.
x Put all items loosely in your bin.
Bags interfere with sorting and can get tangled up in other items.
x All containers must be empty.
Items you can put in a single stream recycling bin include:
x Household Plastics #1 through
#7 ± Check the bottom or side of the container.
x Newspaper, Magazines and Catalogs (remove bags, strings and rubber bands)
x Paper Milk or Juice Cartons x Junk Mail and Office Paper
x Cardboard and Paper Bags ± be sure to flatten the cardboard
x Aluminum, Steel and Tin Cans
x Clear and Colored Glass (see RECYCLE on page 2)
Since we are beginning a new year, it is a good time to recommit to a ministry within the parish. This week I would like to highlight our need for liturgical ministries. At this time we have many opportunities available as:
1. Sacristans this is probably our greatest need right now at weekend Masses. A Sacristan works behind the scenes to make sure everything is set up for Mass, such as the bread and wine and chalice.
Before Mass the sacristan helps sign in Eucharistic Ministers and finds a couple people to bring up the bread and wine during the Presentation of the Gifts. Also, they make sure there are enough consecrated hosts in the tabernacle. The time commitment involved is about 25 minutes prior to Mass and fifteen minutes after Mass.
Also, for those of you who are available weekday mornings, we could use a couple more weekday sacristans to set up for funeral Masses.
2. Ushers/Greeters these two ministries have been combined since ushers no longer assist with the collection. Ushers greet parishioners arriving for Mass, they may assist in the count of participants prior to the beginning of Mass, they direct communion lines and are available during Mass for other kinds of necessary assistance.
3. Eucharistic Ministers We have a good number of EMs, but we could always use a few more. These people signup prior to Mass and are available to distribute communion during Mass.
If any of you can help us out with the above ministries, especially Sacristans and Ushers/Greeters, please contact Lisa Bittner at:
lisa.bitter@abecket.org. Lisa and Kevin will provide full training for these ministries and are available as valuable resources for the people in these ministries.
Please consult the parish website for descriptions of all other ministerial opportunities available here at Becket.
Health and Blessings!

( cont. from page 1)
Where can you recycle items not listed here?
x Plastic bags: Kroger, WalMart, Kohl’s, Meijer, and Target all accept plastic bags. Most have a bin at the front of the store. x Batteries: Call2Recyle is a
nonprofit organization which has boxes in most Home Depot, Lowes, and other stores. Check out the full list at: CallToRecycle.Org. x Electronics: Best Buy takes up to
three devices a day.
Check out Earth911.com for more assistance on what/where to recycle household items.

We are already a couple of weeks into the new year of 2022. With a new year comes hope for new beginnings and improvements, peace in our world and in our homes, respect for all persons and respect for all life, great breakthroughs in medicine and science and the list goes on. More than anything we want people to see and get to know Jesus through our ministry of Christ’s love.
We Vincentians are also hopeful that this year of 2022 will be one in which we meet many new persons in need in our Canton community, and that we are able to give them the help they need to remedy their often dire situation. We hope that we will have sufficient funds to help and the wisdom and grace to discern and dispense these funds wisely. We count on the support of our parishioners not only financially, but spiritually. Please keep us, our work and the neighbors in need who we serve in your prayers. We pray with our neighbors in need every time we help them… we are more than a social service agency. We want them to know they are loved by God.
Jesus cared for the poor and we want them to see Jesus in us. St Vincent de Paul pray for us. Blessed Frederic Ozanam founder of our Society pray for us, our benefactors and those we
Middle School Youth Group The MSYG students requested that we focus a few nights on the Sacrament of Confirmation, so last week we began that discussion, talking about our goals and dreams, along with Catholic Church history and our role. Next week, we will discuss Baptism in our night called “A Holy Bath.”
High School Youth Group: The HSYG teens requested that we focus a few nights on specific topics, so last week we began with a deep dive into the story of Samson and Delilah, reading Judges 1316, watching a video depiction of the story, followed by an interesting discussion. Next week, we will be talking about “My Last Breath.”
Young Adults:
If you feel a calling to work with teens, need a few volunteer hours, or just want to get out of the house, please contact me about being on the Leadership Team. The time commitment is up to you, whether it is a few hours a month or joining us weekly.

Nicene Creed:
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made,
consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Prayer of the Faithful
Response: Lord, hear our prayer.
For the Church: that inspired by Mary’s words, we may become better disciples by doing all that God asks of us, we pray to the Lord:
For the unity of all Christians: that God will heal the wounds in the body of Christ and help us to give common witness to God through prayer and acts of loving service, we pray to the Lord:
For greater unity in our country: that God will heal the divisions and animosity that exist, guide leaders in working together to address the issues of those who are suffering, and help us to better listen to one another, we pray to the Lord:
For all engaged and newly married couples: that they may invite Jesus to be part of their relationship and grow in their love and commitment to each other, we pray to the Lord:
For all of us gathered here at St. Thomas a’Becket: that we may appreciate the abundance of God’s generosity toward us and rely upon God who never tires of providing for us, we pray to the Lord:
For all who are ill: that God will give strength to healthcare workers, protect the human family from the spread of the coronavirus, and bring healing to all who are sick, especially…..., we pray to the Lord:
For all who have died in faith: that they may live forever in the heavenly kingdom of Christ Jesus, especially…. :
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
Preparation of the Gifts:
We Are Many Parts (Marty Haugen)We are many parts, we are all one body, and the gifts we have we are given to share.
May the Spirit of love make us one indeed;
one, the love that we share; one, our hope in despair; one, the cross that we bear.
1. God of all, we look to you, we would be your servants true,
let us be your love to all the world.
2. So my pain is pain for you, in your joy is my joy, too;
all is brought together in the Lord.
3. All you seekers, great and small, seek the greatest gift of all;
if you love, then you will know the Lord.
Sanctus:
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna, hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna, hosanna in the highest.
Hosanna, hosanna in the highest.
(continued…..)
Memorial Acclamation:
We proclaim your death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection
until you come again, until you come again.
Doxology/Amen
Lord’s Prayer
All: Our Father…
Lamb of God:
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.
Communion Antiphon:
Psalm 23:5 (Angrisano/Hart/Stephan)You have prepared a table before me,
and how precious is the chalice that quenches my thirst.
Communion:
Taste and See (James Moore)Taste and see, taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
O taste and see, taste and see the goodness of the Lord, of the Lord.
1. I will bless the Lord at all times. Praise shall always be on my lips;
my soul shall glory in the Lord for God has been so good to me.
2. Glorify the Lord with me. Together let us all praise God's name.
I called the Lord who answered me; from all my troubles I was set free.
3. Worship the Lord, all you people. You'll want for nothing if you ask.
Taste and see that the Lord is good; in God we need put all our trust.
Communion Prayer
Final Blessing
Sending Forth:
Sing of the Lord’s Goodness (Ernest Sands, Jr.)1. Sing of the Lord’s goodness,
Father of all wisdom,
come to him and bless his name.
Mercy he has shown us,
his love is forever,
faithful to the end of days.
Refrain
Come, then, all you nations,
sing of your Lord’s goodness,
melodies of praise and thanks to God.
Ring out the Lord’s glory,
praise him with your music,
worship him and bless his name.
2. Power he has wielded,
honor in his garment,
risen from the snares of death.
His word he has spoken,
one bread he has broken,
new life he now gives to all.
3. Courage in our darkness,
comfort in our sorrow,
Spirit of our God most high;
solace for the weary,
pardon for the sinner,
splendor of the living God.
