General Nomination and Guidelines Special gratitude to our benefactor

Yvonne E. Nona Women’s Scholarship Purpose

The aim of Chaldean philanthropy is geared to advance the professional aspirations of Chaldean students across academic and vocational disciplines.

Focus

The Chaldean Community Foundation’s Academic Scholarship Program is a collaborative of Chaldean philanthropies providing annual scholarship fund opportunities to assist students and learners across vocational disciplines help meet the escalating costs of (higher, trade skills) education.

The Yvonne E. Nona scholarship provides financial assistance to women pursuing higher education, including community college and post-graduate studies in preparation for a career in the field of their choice. The Yvonne Nona Scholarship fund has been established in memory of the late Yvonne E. Nona. Education was always a big part of Yvonne’s life and her lasting wish was to be able to help Chaldean women through the power of education! This exciting program will assist women, who are residents and attending specific Michigan colleges and universities (shown below), to achieve their academic and professional goals. The Chaldean Community Foundation is happy to assist in creating this lasting legacy in Yvonne’s name while permanently improving the lives of fellow women who are in need.

The Nona Family has generously offered three (3) $5,000 scholarships and three (3) $2,500 scholarships for candidates pursuing higher education, including community college and post-graduate studies.

General Qualifications and Terms General policies covering the granting of the Academic Scholarship are:

▪ Open to female students and learners

▪ Status: Must maintain U.S legal status as a U.S.-Chaldean citizen, immigrant, refugee, asylee, permanent resident

▪ Geographic residency: Must be a resident in the State of Michigan

▪ Geographic institution: Scholarships aim to support the following Michigan schools:

o Oakland University

o Oakland Community College o Macomb Community College o Wayne State University o Walsh College

o University of Detroit Mercy

▪ Scholarship grant money is intended to help subsidize financial burden of education-related cost

Submission Materials

REQUIRED:

o Application Profile

o Application Essays – Be sure your contact information is reflected on every page o Unofficial transcript (or official transcript request) with stated major

o Proof of U.S. citizenship or status (birth certificate, passport, green card) o Proof of Michigan residency (Michigan driver’s license or state ID) o Proof of admission to one of the colleges above

OPTIONAL:

o High Resolution Photo (used for presentation if selected for the scholarship) o Awards or Honors received – personal and academic

o Encouraged to include supporting documents and/or narrative on a “statement of need;” i.e. Parent’s Income, FAFSA, SAR

o Encouraged to submit academic institution recommendation letters from teachers, professors, counselors, etc. and volunteerism-based letters of support

o Encouraged to include a resume with internships, summer/seasonal jobs and/or study abroad program with extracurricular school or community activism and/or leadership roles held

C. Attending a four-year undergraduate accredited Michigan University, College or Community College Degree focus in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM); focused on IT/Computer fields of study

D. GPA of 3.0 or higher at a two or four year accredited Michigan College, University, or Community College E. Demonstrate Financial Need
