THE TREASURY OF AHADITH

(SAYINGS & DEEDS) OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD (S.A.S)

PREFACE :

The Importance of Ahadith, or Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.S) cannot be over emphasized. While the Qur’an is the divine revelation, the Sunnah is its practical exemplification.

Prophet Muhammad’s (S.A.S) life was a divinely guided commentary on the Qur’an as testified by his wife Syeda Ayesha (R.A) (may Allah be pleased with her) who said of him:”his character was a living example of the Qur’an.” The Qur’an leaves no doubt that the prophet’s life examples have to be followed at all cost;”and whatever the Messenger gives you, take it and whatever he forbids, abstain from it.” (the Qur’an 59:7)

In his address at the farewell pilgrimage, the Prophet (S.A.S) Reminds us about the importance of

Sunnah along with that of the Qur’an;

“I am leaving two things amongst you after my death. If you hold them fast, you will not go Astray from the right path. The one is the Qur’an and the other is the Sunnah.”

The teachings of the Prophet(SAS) comprising beliefs, habits, affairs of life, devotional acts, salvation and beneficence and good deeds for the sake of Allah’s(God’s) pleasure over and above those actuated by ‘Taqwa’ (Piety or fear of Allah). It is a limitless ocean leaving nothing out that concerns mankind in any way.

In the pursuit of Allah’s Pleasure and a rewarding life both in the world and the Hereafter, the valuable collection of Ahadith presented here. May Allah give best reward to the contributors, Aameen.

1. Basic Pillars of Islam (Definition of Islam)

Ibn umar (R.A) related that Muhammad (S.A.S) said : Islam is based on Five(5) things : a. Bearing witness that there is no god except Allah and that Muhammad (S.A.S) is Allah’s Messenger.

b. To observe Salah. c. To Fast during Ramadan. d. To pay Zakat and e. To perform Haj to Allah’s House. ( Bukhari, Muslim)

2. Three levels of Belief : Islam, Iman and Ihsan :

The definition of Islam is same as given in Hadith No.1 above. This definition was replied by the Prophet (S.A.S) to Angel Jibriel.

Iman: Means that you should believe in Allah (God), His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, and the Last Day , and that one should believe in the decreeing both of Good and Evil. This was the reply given to Angel Jibriel by the prophet (S.A.S).

Ihsan : means that you should worship Allah as though you see him, for even though you do not see Him, still, He sees you. This was the reply given to Angel by the Prophet (S.A.S) (Muslim) 3. Anas (R.A) related that Prophet Muhammad (S.A.S)said: He who loves my Sunnah has loved me,

And he who loves me will be with me in Paradise. (Tirmidh)

Comment: Many people claim to love the Prophet (S.A.S) but merely sing songs in his Praise. If one

really loves the Messenger (S.A.S) of God he should love his Sunnah. Follow his conduct and propagate his Message for which he was raised.

4. THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT

Abu Burdah (R.A) related that Muhammad (S.A.S) said : On the Day of Judgment each slave of Allah will remain standing (before his Lord) until he is Questioned about (Five Things) : About his life how he spent it, about his knowledge how much he acted upon it, about his money, how he acquired it and how he spent it, and about his body (and health), how he used it. (Muslim) 5. SALAT : The Second Pillar of Islam

a) Jabir (R.A) related that prophet (S.A.S) said : giving up Salat (Prayer) is equivalent to unbelief

and Paganism. (Muslim)

b) Abu Hurairah (R.A) related that the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.S) said : Tell me, if there was a river at the door of one of you in which he washed five times everyday, would any of his dirt remain? When he received the reply that none of it would remain, he said : that is Like the Five Times Salat (Prayer), with which Allah wipes out Sin. (Bukhari, Muslim)

(3)

6. MUTUAL GREETINGS

a) Abdullah Ibn Amr narrated that a man once asked Prophet (S.A.S) what aspect of Islam was the best, and he said : you should provide food and greet both those you know and those you do not. (Bukhari & Muslim)

b) Abu Hurairah (R.A) related that Muhammad (S.A.S) said : you will not enter Heaven until you believe, and you will not believe until you love each other. Let me guide you to something which will cause you love each other : Spreading the Greetings of peace (As-Salamu Alaikum). – (Muslim)

Abu Hurairah (R.A) related that Muhammad (S.A.S) said : May his nose be rubbed in dust ( he repeated same sentence three times), who found his parents, one or both approaching old age and

did not enter paradise through serving them. (Muslim)

According to Muawiya (R.A) Muhammad (S.A.S) also said : your Heaven lies under the feet of your

Mother. (Ahmad & Nasai)

8.MARRIAGE

Abu Hurairah (R.A) related that the Prophet (S.A.S) said : people marry women for four reasons. For their money, for their rank, for their beauty and for their religion, but marry one who is religious and

you will succeed. (Bukhari, Muslim)

9.DIVORCE

a) Abdullah Ibn Umar (R.A) related that the Messenger (S.A.S) of Allah said : The most hateful to

Allah (God) of All permitted things is Divorce. (Abu Daud)

b) According to Soban (R.A) that Prophet Muhammad (S.A.S) said : The sweet smell of Paradise is

forbidden to the woman who demands divorce form her husband except on account of severe

hardships. (Abu Daud, Ahmed,Tirmidhi)

Comment : Islam teaches us to have strong family bonds. Thus the home in an Islamic society is very strong and stable Institution. Consequently, the rate of divorce in Muslim countries is very low. 10. INHERITANCE:

Comment: Importance of Asr prayer given in Qur’an (2:238) 14. Special status of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.S.)

Narrated Jabir Bin Abdullah (R.A): Muhammad (S.A.S) said “I have been given five (things) which were not given to anyone else before me.

1. Allah made me victorious by Awe (by his frightening my enemies) for a distance of one month journey.
