Monday 9/15 - NO SCHOOL – Staff Development Day!
Principal’s Desk…….
Remember No School on Monday – Monday students do not attend school. Faculty, staff and parents are working on our WASC accreditation self-study report.
CONNECT – GROW – SHARE: You hear these words a lot around St. John’s. These three words are what we are all about. Last week at worship we heard about “Connecting” to God through our time together in worship. This week in church we will hear about “GROW”. Growing in God’s word through life groups offers opportunities to build friendships and to better understand life and God’s will for each of us. Please join us for worship this weekend and find out more about “GROWING together in God’s Word through Life Groups.”
Hot Weather: Parents, as we experience days with high temperatures, please know that we monitor the temperatures outside on both of our playgrounds. When deemed necessary, we limit both length of time and degree of activity at recess, PE classes and sports. We recognize the need for students to have opportunity to be outside and active, but moderately for their safety.
Chapman 5K – Mark your calendar for Saturday, October 11th. This is the date for the Chapman 5K Run. This is a great event and one in which many of our St. John’s students and their families participate. Please check our Mr. Courvoisier’s email he sent out this week for details.
Target Check $$ -THANK YOU! Do you ever wonder if St. John’s ever gets the money your purchases generate through Target’s “Take Charge of Education” fundraising program? The answer is ABSOLUTELY YES!!! I just received a check for $2,405.86. This is over $200 more than last year! Thank you to everyone who participates in this program. This money is used to help fund materials and equipment for classrooms and instruction. Keep it up!!!
Volunteer Screening – We are getting a great response to the screening of volunteers. Steps are simple; 1)-download form from Renweb and print it out, 2)-complete the form and sign it, 3)-turn in the form to the school office in an enclosed envelope. THAT’s IT! No payment involved! Allow approximately 7 days for processing. We strongly encourage parents to complete this screening even if you don’t know exactly when you will be volunteering this year.
Great Activities at St. John’s: Please take a moment to read the information included in this edition of Slices on our upcoming “Get Real” Life Group activity. This Bible study in small groups offers a great, relaxed way of looking at some life changing truths about God and his amazing love. The book of the Bible being studied is Philippians. This book is known as one of the “joy-filled” books of the Bible. If you want more information, please contact Christina Meadows. cmeadows@stjohnsorange.org Also notice information in today’s Slices about our “Discover Classes.” These classes provide information and instruction on our beliefs and understandings as a church. At the conclusion of the classes opportunity is provided for becoming a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. See Christina Meadows for this too.
Tim Elmore Presentation – Parents, Lutheran schools in Orange County are collaborating together to bring Tim Elmore to Orange Lutheran High School on Tuesday, October 7th at 7:00PM. Tickets are available on line. He is an outstanding speaker on various subjects related to children and teenagers. Mark your calendar now. SEE ATTACHED FLYER!
Have a great 3-day weekend!
God is Rock Solid!
Mr. Einem

WRAPPING PAPER FUNDRAISER - Our Wrapping Paper Fundraiser kicked off this week! Our sale runs from 9/3 to 9/17. All orders (including online) and paperwork are due by 9/17. It’s a great way to support our school and pick up a few items for fall, Christmas, and every day. In addition to the incentives printed in the catalog, when your child sells 10 items, turn in the attached coupon (right away!) to your child’s teacher and they will get a superhero plush dog! Middle School students can save for their chapel partner, a younger sibling, or can donate back to a local charity. 20 items earns them a visit to the Kona Shaved Ice truck after the sale. Have out of the area friends and family order online. Remember, grades 5-8 receive 35% of sales in their student account to be used towards Middle School Trips! See the attached flyers for details or contact Cindy Warren at cwgiraffe@cox.net
