ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR 2000 – Present

Teach undergraduate and graduate journalism courses. Specialty area: video and broadcast journalism.

DIRECTOR

MCCORMICK FELLOWS PROGRAM 2007 – 2009

Oversaw program of nearly 100 media executives of color. Duties included development of annual fall forum, development of communication and outreach strategies to industry and annual recruitment to Fellows program.

NEXT GENERATION JOURNALISTS PROGRAM 2007- 2009

Directed and taught summer journalism education program for Chicago high school students. Program is partnership among Medill, Gary Comer Youth Center and Free Spirit Media.

ASSOCIATE DEAN 2002-2006

Led the school’s curriculum revision, faculty development and coordination of reaccrediting reports for external accreditors (ACEJMC) and internal reviewers.

MODERATOR OF CRAIN LECTURE SERIES 2003- 2006

Conducted research and interviewed guests as part of the bi-weekly lecture series. Guests included journalists and public affairs figures. Interviews air on Chicago cable station.

DIRECTOR, SUMMER ACADEMIC WORSKHOP Summer 2000

Ran Northwestern’s academic orientation program for incoming African-American and Latino freshmen. Hired faculty and student counselors. Taught media literacy course.

Taught undergraduate and graduate broadcast news courses in the areas of writing, reporting and producing.

Oversaw, monitored and administered internship program that placed undergraduates at commercial television stations around the U.S. for an academic quarter.

Educator in the Newsroom Fellowship Summer 2006

Chosen as one of 18 University Professors to work in a broadcast newsroom for four weeks over the summer. Assignment was on the website at CBS2 in Chicago.

Charles Deering McCormick Distinguished Clinical Professor Award 2001-2002

Chosen for outstanding teaching contribution. Award includes appointment as a fellow to Searle Center for Teaching Excellence.
