Renovation of a XIV century patrician building Campo Rielo - Santa Croce 1358

Domina Home Ca’ Zusto is a unique beautiful building in the Venetian scene. With an overall surface area of about 1.070 sq.m, it includes three floors over-ground and a luxu-rious loft with two 18th century gables. The bearing structure is made of solid brick and the floors are made of wooden beams. The building was constructed in the 14th century by and named after the Zusto noble family, which was already known in the real estate sector for its remarkable assets, which ensured its importance in the history of the Serenissima Republic of Venice. Despite the changes implemented to the hotel over the years, the building has maintained its original gothic features, whose solemn lines are to date the expression of a noble and sophisticated style.

Interiors and furnishings make it a place of excitement and surprises that is strongly bound to the past.

The dilemma I faced when approaching the project in fact underlined the central focus of my work: does it make sense to restore a 12th century building by preserving the architectu-ral and material aspects in a careful ,even overly precise manner, or is it more important to recreate the emotions the place has always provoked? The latter is surely the most charming …. The outside belongs to the identity and history of Venice, and it’s therefore “untoucha-ble”; but the inside must recall emotions which go beyond the material aspects and affect all areas of perception. I felt it was important to evoke the true sensations of the place rather than artificial 16th century environments.

The result is an alternative for Venice, an exciting and surprising house with vivid colours, decorations and atmospheres of the Venetian-Byzantine tradition in a domestic but “inter-national” scenario. Each of the 22 suites is decorated with different colours and curtains to make it the backdrop for a really unique experience.

Domina Home Piccolo, immersed in the luxu-riant vegetation typical of the Ligurian Riviera, is a converted refined period villa located in Portofino, one of the most characteristic and picturesque sea-side villages in the world.

Surrounded by chestnut and olive groves, with ac-cess to the only rocky beach along the coast, the hotel draws the sea inside.

The design is inspired by the landscape, as the ex-ternal structure of the villa remains unchanged. In-side, on the other hand, it holds an unequivocal air of the sea, bringing to life the sensations offered and enhanced by the view, the sounds and the per-fumes, the horizon …..

The rooms are decorated and renovated with a preference for light shades like white and beige, in a manner that almost cancels them out before the natural spectacle offered by the view from the win-dows. The dark colours, in shades of blue, underli-ne and capture the light from outside; lastly, the red of Portofino appears in just few details, found in the hall and in the restaurant.

The rusult is an environment that celebrates colours, nature and the sea of Portofino, which is stunning from windows overlooking the gulf.

On the northern coast of Sicily between Palermo and Cefalù rises Domina Home Zagarella Santa Flavia: a four-star hotel nestled in an exclusive setting in perfect symbiosis with the regional identity of the surrounding environment.

The hotel is located in an area of 28,000 sqm overlooking the sea, a short distance from the cliffs and beaches of Porticello, and it is surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation.

The main building of the complex consists of a imposing central structure that houses the 340 rooms, restaurants, services and principal common areas.

Descending to the sea are 43 independent villas built in pure Sicilian style.

The design is inspired by one of the most beautiful periods of last century italian history, the ’50’s/ ’60’s era also known as

La Dolce Vita.

The most important task for an architect is to tell a story and not simply to create good designs. This is why the Santa Flavia project was so fascinating: the grandiose building, its location, the role it plays in the memory of the people of Palermo. The hotel was built between the 1960’s and the 1970’s, a period when Italians lived a carefree and lighthearted life.

The “Dolce Vita” became then the leitmotiv when ap-proaching the Zagarella project. The building lent itself beautifully to this concept; from its spacious restaurants,

and its large swimming pools overlooking the sea, to the snug living quarters immersed in mature vegetation.

The redesigning of the building was therefore based on these precepts with the intention of encapsulating the feelings that the “Dolce Vita” theme evo-ked.

An in-depth study of the period was carried out: the furniture, light fittings, soft furnishings, colours.

Fashion, music, sport cars, cinema, and movie Stars are the five elements that characterize the hotel’s floors, every detail expressing a specific citation, combining vintage with modern day technology.

Domina Peter is a 5 star hotel in the heart of St. Pe-tersburg featuring 108 rooms, suites and junior suites with a floor surface of 20.000 sq.m.

The project was commissioned to gianmarcocavagnino in december 2006 after winning the international competition Domina Peter.

The approach to the project for this luxury hotel was inspi-red by the city. A city of contrasts, powerful feelings, colors, architecture, people.

The design is focused on bringing together all the messages relayed by the city, shaping them, making them less chaotic and more customized.

The hotel must provide shelter but also represent the city. Evoking it by means of colour or with ironic references to the atmospheres and the light of the paintings by Rem-brandt in the Hermitage, or to the furnitures described by Dostoevsky.

The interior design project for the hotel features constant references to the city, whose colors are interpreted on each floor, whose lights and atmospheres are evoked by fabrics and furnitures custom-designed by gianmarcocavagnino. The objective is to provide an experience, not a detached representation.

rue vieille du temple.

artistic lightings installation for Christmas 2011 Francia Parigi, 3° arrondissement, Marais

Rue Vieille du Temple. 535 mt

gianmarcocavagnino was commissioned by the association of the traders in Rue Vieille du Temple, Paris, to design the artistic lightings installation for Christmas 2011.

According to the main characteristics of gianmarcocavagnino’s works, the objective of this project is to evoke emotions, to go beyond the usual, though powerful, Christmas messages and leave people free to find their own reading key.

The project features simbolically a big Comet Star with two tails; it is red, colour traditionally linked to the Christman festivity, but also the colour of strenght, enthusiasm and joy of living, symbol of dynamism. The Comet Star shows the way of culture as metaphor of a way which leads people coming from everywhere to meet and undestand each other.
