Tii 5-pin/1-pin Gas Tube with PTC modules are dependable plug-in devices that guard sensitive telecommunications systems from dangerous voltage surges. The three-element GDT with 4 Ohm (nominal resistance) PTCs provide both overvoltage and overcurrent protection. This prevents destructive line-to-line overvoltages and sneak currents from reaching valuable telecom equipment. The combination of GDT and PTCs provide excellent electrical protection while minimally affecting high frequency xDSL and ISDN signals.
These modules include a heat activated fail-safe mechanism that provide additional protection against power crosses. Test points allow easy test access to the outside plant. The 193/93 Series modules utilize 4 Ohm (nominal resistance) PTCs with hold current of 120mA in excess of 3 hours. The PTCs are resettable and will automatically revert to low resistance when the cause of overcurrent is removed. KeY product BeNeFItS

IP Video Surveillance
Solutions for Healthcare
IndigoVision is a leading manufacturer of end-to-end IP Video security solutions. Their surveillance systems are field proven worldwide, over many years, in both commercial and public security applications. IndigoVision's technology helps hospitals to improve their operational efficiency, enhance public and patient safety and enable timely emergency response.
Background
In hospitals the protection of staff and patients is paramount, creating a demanding security environment. This is especially true in frontline areas such as emergency departments. Healthcare facilities are often spread across multiple buildings and sites and require monitoring from a single central point. Violence, drug misuse, theft, liability claims, wandering patients, child abductions and traffic management are just some of the diverse challenges faced by hospitals everyday.
Distributed Monitoring
This kind of environment calls for a flexible and distributed solution. IndigoVision’s distributed architecture allows any component to be located anywhere on the IP network, including cameras, Network Video Recorders (NVRs) and video workstations. The IP network can span a single building, multiple sites or across countries. Main security teams can monitor entire multi-site complexes from a single control room, whereas view-only workstations with limited access can be placed at Nurse Stations or on administrators’ desks to help staff monitor patients on local wards. IndigoVision’s sophisticated Identity Authentication Management handles access permissions and creates a secure audit trail of users.
IndigoVision has been providing multi-site CCTV surveillance for St Joseph’s Health Care’s four facilities in Canada since 2001
Security Threats and Business Challenges
Hospitals face a myriad of threats and challenges:
Geography - Hospitals often
cover large geographical areas and multiple sites, with surveillance required both inside and outside of buildings
Patient & Staff Safety - The
safety of patients, visitors and staff are of paramount importance
Criminal Activity -The size and
nature of hospitals make them prime targets for theft and other criminal activity - theft can involve on-site collusion
High-Value Assets - Hospitals
contain very expensive, often portable equipment that must be both accessible and protected
Disruption - Any disruption to
patient care due to security breaches can have serious consequences
Public Liability - As with any
public organization, Hospitals are open to liability claims, many often false

At-A-Glance
Thinking Big: The Ideal Infrastructure for Long-Term Big
Data Success
Exponential increases in data volumes mean that big data environments
will eventually get much bigger and more distributed, potentially
consisting of hundreds or thousands of servers and switches.
Consequently, IT departments will need an infrastructure is designed
for cost-effective management, massive scalability, comprehensive
security that extends from the data center through the network to every
connected device, and lower TCO. And as use of big data becomes
more critical to day-to-day decision making - and more pervasive in
the industry - high performance and availability of big data solutions will
become more important to help ensure faster and predictable delivery
of insights to key decision makers.
Traditional infrastructure simply is not designed to meet these
long-term requirements of big data environments. Cisco, however, provides a
comprehensive and distributed big data infrastructure that is optimized
for long-term success because of its unified design, intelligence, and
robust security.
Distributed Infrastructure Designed for Efficient Scalability and
Flexibility
The fabric-based infrastructure of the Cisco Unified Computing
System™ (Cisco UCS®) uniquely integrates server, network, and storage
resources. This highly efficient infrastructure lets businesses manage up
to 10,000 Cisco UCS servers as if they were a single pool of resources,
so they can support the largest data clusters. The integrated design also
delivers outstanding performance.
Enterprises need to be able to capture intelligence from both data at
rest in the data center and real-time data at the data center edge.
Cisco’s broad portfolio of Cisco UCS solutions provides the flexibility
to process data where it makes the most sense. The Cisco UCS C240
M4 Rack Server system is extremely popular for Hadoop-based big
data deployments at the data center core. The Cisco UCS Mini is an
all-in-one solution that’s excellent for processing data at the network
edge, delivering servers, storage, and networking in an easy-to-deploy,
compact form factor.

billions of connections between people,
processes, and things, and each of these
connections will be able to produce
data. IoE will provide enterprises with
fundamentally better access and better
data allowing them to become more
aware, more predictive, and more agile.
This kind of intelligence - gained by
applying big data and analytics - fuels
continuous improvement: enterprises can

• A simple solution that offers streamlined implementation, operation and has capacity for at least five years future proofing.
Summit Switches Optimize Glasgow University’s
GridPP Role in CERN Particle Physics Research
CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in Switzerland is the focal point of a massive international collaboration to explore the furthest reaches of human knowledge about the nature of matter and the origins of our universe. The most powerful instrument ever built to investigate fundamental physics, the LHC creates a data deluge beyond the processing power of traditional computer centres. Instead the data is sent out to a worldwide Grid of 350,000 computers.
GridPP is a collaboration of particle physicists and computer scientists from the UK and CERN, creating a distributed computing grid across the UK as part of this worldwide computing grid using open source software, applications and middleware. GridPP was originally created for LHC experiments, which still make up at least 90% of the total workload, but it now also supports other particle physics experiments as well as research from numerous other disciplines – it even includes proof-of-concept work for industry.
Currently GridPP comprises 20 UK institutions and it contributes the equivalent of over 40,000 cores to this worldwide effort. Among the Grid’s leading contributors is the PPE group in the Glasgow University School of Physics and Astronomy.
Need for Low Latency, Scalable, Resilient and
Secure Communications
Until 2012, the network at the Glasgow University School of Physics and Astronomy had grown organically with clusters of Nortel and Dell switches spread over two computer rooms. According to EGEE/ScotGrid Technical Co-ordinator, Mark Mitchell: “Effectively we had a problem in that we were maximizing the 20Gig backhaul link
between the two rooms. Now, with additional funding provided by the STFC, we had a real opportunity to upgrade the cluster’s entire network infrastructure.”
A competitive tender was put out and LAN3’s Extreme Networks-based solution won the day, notably on the strength of its performance, reliability and flexibility. The overwhelming majority of tasks executed at the site run in parallel, without
inter-process communication, so the need is not so much for high performance computing as high throughput with exceptional reliability and uptime 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
University Network
Advances the Frontiers
of Human Knowledge
“The Extreme Networks relative operational simplicity takes it from being a live component to what a network should be – infrastructure.”
- MARK MITCHELL, EGEE/SCOTGRID TECHNICAL CO-ORDINATOR, GLASGOW UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF PHYSICS AND ASTRONOMY
