A Letter from Fr. Christian
The Catechism of the Catholic Church
Paragraphs 124 - 126
The Canon of Scripture
124 "The Word of God, which is the power of God for salvation to eve- ryone who has faith, is set forth and displays its power in a most won- derful way in the writings of the New Testament" which hand on the ultimate truth of God's Revelation. Their central object is Jesus Christ, God's incarnate Son: his acts, teachings, Passion and glorification, and his Church's beginnings under the Spirit's guidance.
125 The Gospels are the heart of all the Scriptures "because they are our principal source for the life and teaching of the Incarnate Word, our Saviour".
126 We can distinguish three stages in the formation of the Gospels:
1. the life and teaching of Jesus. the Church holds firmly that the four Gospels, "12God, while he lived among men, really did and taught for their eternal salvation, until the day when he was taken up."
2. the oral tradition. "For, after the ascension of the Lord, the apostles handed on to their hearers what he had said and done, but with that fuller understanding which they, instructed by the glorious events of Christ and enlightened by the Spirit of truth, now enjoyed."
3. the written Gospels. "The sacred authors, in writing the four Gospels, selected certain of the many elements which had been handed on, ei- ther orally or already in written form; others they synthesized or ex- plained with an eye to the situation of the churches, the while sustain- ing the form of preaching, but always in such a fashion that they have told us the honest truth about Jesus."
Dear friends,
I wanted to comment briefly on my time away this past weekend. I’m very grateful for the missionary priest covering Mass and confessions which allowed me to spend some time away. I sometimes feel bad about leaving the parish thinking perhaps I am shirking responsibility. My spiritual director assures me that taking some time away to spiritual- ly refresh is probably the best thing I could do for the parish. If I’m not spiritually
healthy then it will be hard for me to minister to you. Just having two days to immerse myself in silence and prayer was very beneficial. It was great to be back at such a lovely setting where the weather was mild. Thank you for your prayers for me . . . Please know of my continued prayers for the parish even while I’m away.
In Christ, Fr. Christian

The Teen Timeline is a teen version of the Great Adven- ture Bible Timeline. Teen presenter Mark Hart makes the bible come alive for Catholic teens by unpacking God’s Word in a way they can relate to. Come and join our group and let your mind and heart come to see how relevant the Bible is to your life.
The Timeline Study Kit cost is $15.95 each. Join by August 18 so supplies can be ordered.
