I confess to almighty God

in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done
and in what I have failed to do,

therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints,

EADING Genesis 9:8-15God said to Noah and to his sons with him: “See, I am now establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you and with every living creature that was with you: all the birds, and the various tame and wild animals that were with you and came out of the ark. I will establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all bodily creatures be destroyed by the waters of a flood; there shall not be another flood to devastate the earth.” God added:
“This is the sign that I am giving for all ages to come, of the covenant between me and you and every living creature with you: I set my bow in the clouds to serve as a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth, and the bow appears in the clouds, I will recall the covenant I have made between me and you and all living beings, so that the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all mortal beings.”

EADING 1 Peter 3:18-22Beloved: Christ suffered for sins once, the righteous for the sake of the unrighteous, that he might lead you to God. Put to death in the flesh, he was brought to life in the Spirit. In it he also went to preach to the spirits in prison, who had once been disobedient while God patiently waited in the days of Noah during the building of the ark, in which a few persons, eight in all, were saved through water. This prefigured baptism, which saves you now. It is not a removal of dirt from the body but an appeal to God for a clear conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers subject to him.

holiness, and {100} try to love it. Let us strive and pray that the love of holiness may be created within our hearts;
and then acts will follow, such as befit us and our circumstances, in due time, without our distressing ourselves to find what they should be. You need not attempt to draw any precise line between what is sinful and what is only allowable: look up to Christ, and deny
yourselves every thing, whatever its character, which you think He would have you relinquish. You need not calculate and measure, if you love much: you need not perplex yourselves with points of curiosity, if you have a heart to venture after Him. True, difficulties will sometimes arise, but they will be seldom. He bids you take up your cross; therefore accept the daily opportunities which occur of yielding to others, when you need not yield, and of doing unpleasant services, which you might avoid.
...Be up at prayer "a great while before day," and seek the true, your only Bridegroom, "by night on your bed." So shall self- denial become natural to you, and a change come over you, gently and imperceptibly; and, like Jacob, you will lie down in the waste, and will soon see Angels, and a way opened for you into heaven.
St. John Henry Cardinal Newman
Stewardship
The Duty of Self Denial
SELF-DENIAL of some kind or other is involved, as is evident, in the very notion of renewal and holy obedience.
To change our hearts is to learn to love things which we do not naturally love—to unlearn the love of this world; but this involves, of course, a thwarting of our natural wishes and tastes. To be righteous and obedient implies self-command;
but to possess power we must have gained it; nor can we gain it without a vigorous struggle, a persevering warfare against ourselves. The very notion of being religious implies self-denial, because by nature we do not love religion.
Self-denial, then, is a subject never out of place in Christian teaching; still more appropriate is it at a time like this, when we have entered upon the forty days of Lent, the season of the year set apart for fasting and humiliation.
…
Day by day [St. Paul] got more and more dead to this world;
he had fewer ties to earth, a larger treasure in heaven. Nor let us think that it is over-difficult to imitate him, though we be not Apostles, nor are called to any extraordinary work, nor are enriched with any miraculous gifts: he would have all men like himself, and all may be like him, according to their place and measure of grace. If we would be followers of the great Apostle, first let us with him fix our eyes upon Christ our Saviour; consider the splendour and glory of His
For the seven-months ended January 31st, Sunday Giving slipped slightly, but continues ahead of budget and near the same as a year ago! Laudetur Iesus Christus, nunc et in aeternam. Amen! (Praised be Jesus Christ, now and forever.
Amen!) While Giving held strong, Attendance continues to wane -- our 3 Sunday Masses are averaging less than 500 attendees, COMBINED! Is it FEAR that is keeping some faithful away? Before FEAR, an average of nearly 500 attended the 10AM Mass. Lent provides opportunity to draw closer to Jesus and to ask Him to take FEAR away, allowing us to put all of our faith and trust in Him. We can ask if it be His Will to return during Lent to pray, fast, and give alms without
complaint, to focus on Him and worship Him, and to receive the gift of His body and blood. We are grateful for YOU -- without your faithful worship, prayers and generosity it would not be possible to serve others through our parish ministries!
THANK YOU!

Sacraments & Liturgy
Dear St. Charles Parishioners, As we begin the season of Lent, we are finding ways to work within the pandemic guidelines in order to practice our faith. We were able to have students in grades 2-8 attend Mass on Ash Wednesday. Our preschool, kindergarten, and 1st grade students
attended a prayer service at 9:30 AM and were able to receive ashes. Next week, our students will begin making the Stations of the Cross each week in two groups, K-4 and 5-8. We're grateful to Fr. Przybilla and Deacon Najarian for making time in their
schedules so that all of our students can go to Stations
of the Cross weekly just like other years. This is the first step of a long journey that we walk each year together in our commitment to following Jesus
Christ. The pandemic has slowed down and prevented many things, but for the important pieces of our faith and life, we find a way.
God bless you,

Youth Ministry Program Update: Over President's Day Weekend, the St Charles Youth Group participated in the annual Winter Faith Camp Retreat up at Trout Lake Camp! The weekend was packed with lots of activities, laughter, prayer, and fellowship! We played dodgeball and broomball, went tubing and crate stacking, watched the sunrise, and even played outdoors laser tag! We went to mass every day, heard some phenomenal talks about prayer and practical tips on how to abide in the Lord, and got to spend a lot of time in Adoration. The weekend was beautiful, and we know that the Lord did good things in the hearts of all who went! Thank you so much for praying for us while we were at camp!
Meaning of Man—Week 1
When Father set to work in formulating a parish wide formation plan, I don’t think he quite knew how
Providence would use him, or any of us on staff. As the world has tumbled into tumult we, as Christians, have been faced with a sobering reality: we have entered into a new age, one that is decidedly post-Christian. It may seem from a cursory glance that it only affects major systems, economics, or the penal code. In reality, this major cultural shift has affected and will affect every facet of our lives at an ever increasing and at times dizzying pace.
This year for Truth, the truth of the human person, was decided on through prayer and deep consideration several years ago now, before all of the signs of the times truly showed themselves. I am excited that starting this Lent I will have the opportunity to explore the truth of the human person through brief bulletin articles and flocknotes. This fundamental reality of our lived experience is crucial for the Church to not just survive, but to thrive. We can only be effective
missionary disciples of Christ if we understand who we are and who we are not.
I invite you to prayerfully consider these brief teaching paragraphs each week and allow the perennial truth of the Faith form you into a greater missionary disciple, one who will eagerly promote and defend the Christian meaning of the human person. Let us call this
exploration “The Meaning of Man.” God bless you!
Jacob Nelson
