Service Deliverables

RealServe IT has helped many organisations deliver Citrix XenApp. We have a proven process to ensure projects meet timescales and budgets. The following is an outline of process.

Discovery:

The Discovery stage aims to audit the application and desktop estate.

 Applications & dependencies

 Application / Desktop Usage

 Application / Desktop Users

 Peripherals

Assessment:

The Assessment phase covers the following areas:

 Platform compatibility – Windows 7 / 8 / 10

 Browser compatibility

 32 / 64 bit compatibility

 Virtualization compatibility & options

 Delivery options

 Licensing

Design Workshop

The Design Workshop is a High Level Design (HLD) process which is undertaken with the customer stakeholders in the project. Business as well as technical requirements are defined and various technologies available can be discussed and demonstrated to evaluate their inclusion or exclusion from the design phase. Any decisions made will be documented and included in the HLD. Areas covered are:

 XenApp delivery – MCS or PVS

 Application delivery

 Hosted Shared Desktop types

 User types

 Remote access

 Printing Architecture

 User peripherals (USB, Video, Voice)

 Monitoring & management

 Profiles & Policies

 Infrastructure– server/storage/network

 User experience & performance

 Scalability

 Security

 Disaster Recovery

 Testing and deployment strategy

Design Stage

Following decisions made in the Workshop, a new farm design process can begin in conjunction with technical stakeholders within the Customers business. The design should follow Vendor Best Practice techniques for design and implementation. It will consist of the following:

 Server build process

 Installation of product and configuration settings

 Application packing

 Remote access process

 Support team training

 User training

 Pilot/Staged roll-out plan

Proof of Concept / UAT

The PoC is set up and configured according to the approved design. A small number of applications & desktops are set up for selected users to test the solution in principal and gage the user

experience. The IT team & candidates will be trained and the PoC process will be fully documented. The below will be installed and configured:

 Server & hypervisor

 XenApp components

 Windows Client OS

 PoC test applications

 Remote Access solution

 Test candidate profiles

Once the PoC is successful, a User Acceptance Testing environment is built. All applications are installed and a larger number of candidates are selected to test.

Load Testing and Benchmarking Performance Validation

For larger environments, load testing and benchmarking performance is recommended. Server configurations and application variations can be tested and validated by simulating user workloads. This is fully documented and infrastructure recommendations are proposed based on the results. This validation process also aids in capacity planning.

Deployment

The deployment phase is then conducted once the UAT environment has been signed off. This is then scaled up and users migrated in accordance to the Deployment Strategy. Full documentation will be provided.

Cyber Security

With the ever increasing threat from Cyber activity, the dangers are becoming far more

sophisticated. Relying on perimeter defences alone now is wholly inadequate. In Cisco’s 2014 annual security report they stated “All organizations should assume they’ve been hacked”, which means that there is an even more urgent need to protect data integrity and confidentiality within the corporate network as well as outside.
