3.1
Allowable pressures, sizes and application conditions
Annex A applies for allowable pressures, sizes and application conditions.
3.2
Material, design, nominal sizes, dimensions
3.2.1 Pipes and fittings shall be made from galvanized steel.
3.2.2 For system pipes, the requirements of Annex B and Annex D apply.
3.2.3 For tubes for fitting production, the requirements of Annex C and Annex D apply.

3.3 Installation
instructions
The installation instructions shall contain additionally
description of measures and regulations regarding corrosion protection.
4
Additional provisions for the approval
procedure
4.1
Manufacturing quality of galvanized pipes
For system pipes and tubes for the fitting production for pipe systems made of galvanized
steel, Annex J applies.
4.2
Inspection of installed pipework made of galvanized pipes
The approval is generally valid for a period of four years. Prior to an extension of the
ap-proval for a pipe system with galvanized steel pipe, a VdS-inspection for signs of
corro-sion is necessary of at least three installed pipeworks.
Note: The purpose of the inspections is to gain experience, on one hand with the material
in general and on the other hand with the various approved products. Specific
require-ments and assessment criteria are not yet defined. These will be developed with
increas-ing experience.
Annex A – Allowable pressure, nominal sizes and
application conditions
Table A.1
Pressfitting pipe systems made of galvanized steel, Allowable pressure, nominal sizes and application conditions Allowable pressure 10 bar to 16 bar
Nominal sizes DN 20 to DN 100
Application area (Hazard class)
according to VdS CEA 4001:
Hazard classes LH, OH1, OH2 and OH3 and exhibition halls, cinemas, theatres, concert halls
Application area (Pipework)
Wet sprinkler systems:
horizontal branch pipes and horizontal distribution pipes down-stream the alarm valve station (not vertical main and submain distribution pipes)
Spacing of the fixings According the provisions of VdS CEA 4001 for copper pipes
Additives to the extinguishing water
Not permitted; exception: additives after release of manufacturer and previous agreement with VdS.
