Additional provisions for the approval

procedure

4.1

Manufacturing quality of galvanized pipes

For system pipes and tubes for the fitting production for pipe systems made of galvanized

steel, Annex J applies.

4.2

Inspection of installed pipework made of galvanized pipes

The approval is generally valid for a period of four years. Prior to an extension of the

ap-proval for a pipe system with galvanized steel pipe, a VdS-inspection for signs of

corro-sion is necessary of at least three installed pipeworks.

Note: The purpose of the inspections is to gain experience, on one hand with the material

in general and on the other hand with the various approved products. Specific

require-ments and assessment criteria are not yet defined. These will be developed with

increas-ing experience.

Annex F – Manufacturing quality of galvanised

pipes

F.1 General

For each charge of system pipes and untreated pipes for fitting production for pipe

sys-tems made of galvanised steel, the test according to F.2 and F.3 shall be carried out with

at least one sample. The test shall be documented and the approval criteria of F.2 and

F.3 shall be fulfilled.

F.2 Drift-expanding

test

The sample is subjected to a drift-expanding test at 23 °C ± 5 °C with 60 °C-punch in

accordance with DIN EN ISO 8493. The test is documented in a separate test report in

accordance with DIN EN ISO 8493, clause 7.

Until the expansion is 40 % (up to 1.4 times the diameter) the sample shall show no signs

of the zinc layer dismantling from the base material.

F.3

Determination of layer thickness

The expanded sample of F.2 is split along the pipe axis. Grinding patterns are drawn up.

At least four spots of the sample are subjected to a visual metallographic determination of

the layer thickness on the basis of the grinding patterns. This determination of the layer

thickness is documented in a test report.
