Articulation Pathways Guide

This Articulation Pathways Guide is for anyone interested in applying to an undergraduate

degree at Holmesglen after post-secondary studies either at Holmesglen or another

Australian TAFE or similar institution. Pathways are developed in response to Holmesglen’s

commitment to ongoing learning and the recognition of a range of entry and exit points to

courses which encourages students to fulfil their potential.

What is an articulation pathway?

Articulation pathway arrangements enable students to progress from a completed

qualification to another with admission and/or credit in a defined qualification pathway.

Whether you are a TAFE student or someone looking to return to study after some time

away, options exist to assist you in successfully entering higher education through a defined

articulation pathway. You can often receive credit (known as Advanced Standing) towards a

related higher education degree.

Use this guide to find the right option for you. It provides information on how much credit your

previous studies may give you towards a degree. Use this Guide in conjunction with the

online course information available at

http://www.holmesglen.edu.au/programs/higher_education/higher_education_programs.

Articulation Design Principles

To maximise opportunities for students, during the design process of Holmesglen’s higher

education courses consideration is given to articulation pathways. These pathways include

articulation from vocational education and training courses offered by Holmesglen and other

registered training organisations into Holmesglen’s higher education courses where

appropriate.

The following principles will apply to undergraduate qualifications:

• up to 66.6% credit for an Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree when linked to a

three-year Bachelor Degree

• up to 50% credit for an Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree when linked to a

four-year Bachelor Degree

• up to 33% credit for a Diploma when linked to a three-year Bachelor Degree

• up to 25% credit for a Diploma when linked to a four-year Bachelor Degree.

The maximum amount of external credit based on a completed course at the same or higher

level is normally:

• 66.6% when linked to a three-year Bachelor Degree.

The minimum qualification level recognised by Holmesglen for credit into Holmesglen higher

education courses is normally AQF Diploma level.

T

he following principal will apply to post graduate qualifications:

• a maximum of 50% credit.

The maximum amount of credit is normally based on a course completed within the previous

ten years.

The maximum amount of credit may be lower in some instances in accordance with

professional body accreditation requirements.

Eligibility for credit

You can apply for credit based on any relevant post-secondary studies of an appropriate

level. The level of your post-secondary course is important – it must be considered

equivalent to at least Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree level studies.

If you are a local applicant, your eligibility for credit is assessed after you’ve been accepted

into a degree program. At enrolment, you complete an Application for Exemption, using the

Credit Transfer/Recognition of Prior Learning form, to apply for credit for your previous

studies. The Credit Transfer/Recognition of Prior Learning form is available at:

http://www.holmesglen.edu.au/current_students/student_forms.

If you are an international applicant, your eligibility for credit is usually assessed when you

apply.

Applying to Holmesglen

Once you have identified the Holmesglen degree that is right for you, the application process

depends on what type of applicant you are and when you apply.

Before you apply make sure you:

• Talk with your teachers, career advisors, or family and friends about what you’d really

like to do

• Talk to people who work in your chosen industry to get an idea of what it is really like

• Go to information sessions about the degree courses

• Find out about the degree course in the course brochure and/or online at

http://www.holmesglen.edu.au/programs/higher_education/higher_education_programs

• Make sure you meet the prerequisites for a pathway into your chosen degree.

Costs/fees

Cost and fees for higher education courses are provided in the online course information

which is available at

Articulation Pathways Tables

This is a guide only. If a VET course has been studied at another Registered Training Organisation the exemptions/advanced standing (subject credits)

will be dealt with on a case by case basis. The number of subject credits may vary depending on elective units successfully completed with any

qualification. There is a maximum number of credit points for which exemption can be granted for each qualification. The minimum time to complete a

degree is dependent on subject availability.
