Application Questions

To ensure we notify you when the portal is live, please sign up for updates via https://www.birmingham2022.com/culture/

The following information will help prospective applicants start planning their application before the portal goes live later in the process.

Section 1 - Your Organisation or Group • Your organisation or group name

• Please provide the legal name of the organisation or group that is applying. • What type of organisation or group are you?

• Give any registration numbers you have, i.e. a charity registration or company number

• Please upload a copy of the governing document for your organisation or group (Also known as a constitution, trust deed or memorandum and articles of association etc.)

Section 2 – Your Community • (300 words)

We would like to know more about the community you will work with. A community can be defined by geography, characteristics or common interests. Your community might share a common interest, have a common characteristic or live close to each other. For example:

o Communities with common interests: i.e. a litter picking group, a rock choir, a support group or local history society

o Communities with common characteristics: i.e. a group for new parents, a youth group for 12-14 year olds, an adult disability social group, members of an LGBTQI+ centre

o Communities that live close to each other: i.e. residents of a neighbourhood, a local community centre group, community library visitors

We are interested in the artist(s) your community want to work with. (You do not need to have prior experience of engaging with creativity or artists to apply.)

o Why do you want to work with them and why do you they excite you? o How will your community and artist(s) work together?

Section 3 - Your Project and the Co-created Artwork(s) • (500 words)

This is your chance to tell us about your creative project and how it will be delivered. For example, your youth club may work with a singer/songwriter to empower young people to write and perform their own song, to be performed during the cultural

programme. Or your LGBTQI+ centre may work with a visual artist and your users to create a graphic mural to display in Southside.

Please consider how you will make sure your activities are open to everyone in your community.

This is your chance to tell us how you have been inspired by the moment of the games.

The projects realised through the Creative City Grants Programme will become part of the Birmingham 2022 Cultural Programme. For more information about the Cultural Programme visit www.birmingham2022.com/culture.

• Where will your project activities take place?

This could be where your community normally comes together such as a church hall, a community centre or a local park. Please provide the full postcode of where your project will take place. If your project will take place across different locations, please use the full postcode where most of the project will take place.

• When will your creative project start?

Your start date must be at least 12 weeks after you send us your application. If you’re not sure when your project will start, please provide an estimate.

• When will your creative project end?

Please provide the end date for your project activities and sharing of created artworks; this should be no later than the 31st August 2022.

Tell us about the exciting new artwork(s) your community and artist(s) will bring to life. By new artworks we mean the ‘creative works’ artists and communities will work together to co-create and present. The new art produced could be from a wide range of artforms. For example, this might be a dance performance, an art exhibition, or a community cinema moment.

o When and where do you think your artwork will be shared?

Some artworks may be presented in a single day (i.e. at a carnival) and others may be over a long period (i.e. a month-long exhibition)

o How many times do you think your artwork be shared?

o How long do you think your artwork will be shared with audiences? For example, one hour, one day or one month.

Section 4 – Participants and audiences • (300 Words)

We would like to know more about the people (members of your community) that will take part in your project activities i.e. members of your community taking part in creative workshops with the artists working on your project.

o When will people take part and what will they do?

o What artistic experience do you want to give the people who take part? How might their experience improve:

o Their health & wellbeing o Their level of physical activity o Their connection with others o Their creativity

Tell us about the audiences that will experience your co-created exciting new artwork and the artistic experience they will have. We expect most people will experience the project artwork first-hand in a live setting. For example, as exhibition visitors or live show audiences. Some people may experience the art in a non-live setting for example by watching a live-streamed or recorded performance.

• How many people do you estimate will experience the artwork created in a non-live setting (broadcast, online and print audiences)?

Section 5 - Project Management & Budget • How much are you applying for?

Although you can apply for up to £20,000, most grants awarded will be around £10,000 to ensure we can make as many grants as possible across Birmingham. Please consider this when deciding how much to apply for.

Do you have any other funding for your project? i.e. from your own group or from other partners or funders. You can apply to us to fund 100% of your project. We recommend that you have most of your 'other' money confirmed where possible as this will make your application stronger.
