1.

How to generate RDPlus clients

Please refer to the manual RDPlus - The Complete Guide available on the Downloads section of the website.

2.

How to display different desktop wallpaper for every user

If your RDPlus computer is on a domain environment, you will have to do this by using Group Policies and organizational units with their respective Policy on your Domain Controller.

If the machine is on a workgroup environment (tests made on a Window 7 Pro machine) you will notice that it won’t let you change the desktop from a remote desktop connection.

In order to remove that restriction open the Group Policies settings from the Admintool and browse to: Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Session Host -> Remote Session Environment

From the list modify “Always show desktop on connection" to "Enabled" and "Enforce Removal of Remote Desktop Wallpaper" to "Disabled

Apply the changes with gpupdate

Now if you log back in with any user you should be able to change the desktop image for every user

3.

Will RDPLUS support multiple virtual IP addresses? I need each user session

to have a different IP address.

This kind of feature is very special.

According to our developer, it is supported only on W2008 R2, however it has not been tested by us nor we are aware of any other customer using such feature.

Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that it will work, however you can test it on your environment by installing the trial version.

4.

Unable to open concurrent sessions on the RDPlus server. Limit access to one

single user.

Download and run the Compatibility Update from the website Reboot required after applying update

5.

Allow a user to take over an existing session if there is already a user logged

in with the username you are trying to log in with

You will need to configure this through Group Policies (GPO) which are accessible from the admin tool. Once you open the Local Group Policy editor go to:

Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Session Host

• Connections

Enable the “Restrict Remote Desktop Services users to a single Remote Desktop Services session” option (In case a user gets disconnected – NOT LOGGED OFF – they will grab their session back with everything they were running on the server if they log back on)

NOTE:

After making any changes to these Group Policies, you must run the command “gpupdate /force” from the start menu.

6.

I wonder if the license count only remote concurrent users or also include

local LAN users as well

RDPlus does not make any difference between remote and local LAN users since they are the same type of connections to the server.

7.

Just in case if we need to rebuild the machine in the future, are we able to use

the same license no if the computer name remains the same?

The RDPlus licensing is linked to the PC hardware and MAC address and even to the OS installation Any slight change on any of these will incur in the license invalidation

Any changes that invalidate your RDPlus license will incur an administrative fee for the re-generation. Please contact us for details.

8.

We have moved the server to a different machine, therefore how do I activate

and retain user settings?

The latest version of RDPlus (Ver6.1) includes the options Backup/Restore Server Parameters in the SERVER section.

For older versions, to keep your RDPlus settings please backup the following files from the RDPlus installation folder:

AppControl.ini: Contains all the Application descriptions Color.ini: Seamless color

9.

Is it possible to run a remote session on dual screens?

RDplus will support dual screens on Windows 7 Ultimate. Currently this feature displays the remote

desktop on all the monitors available on the client computer. It can handle any client monitor configuration supported by Windows.

In order to do this there are three different methods that can be used, when connecting using an mstsc client:

1. Click “Use all monitors for the remote session” in the client (mstsc.exe) window (Display tab)

2. Use the “/multimon” switch on the mstsc.exe command line

3. Having created an RDP file, oOpen this file using WordPad (preferably) and add the line: use Multimon:i:1

Save the file and re-run it again normally as an RDP file

When using an RDPlus generated client, make sure you select the option Dual-Screen when generating the client.

10.

We have a problem with rdplus local time zones. If staff in Sydney or Perth

set their local clock time within a RDPlus TS Session, it resets the time for all

local users. This makes impossible to set calendar items, meeting requests to

the correct local time for that user.

Plase chek the info on the following link for some information about this issue http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc783386%28WS.10%29.aspx

Although you are not running a Windows Server, RDPlus provides the group policy option to set up the time zone redirection.

The group policies can be accessed from the RDPlus admin console and the “Allow time redirection” (which you will need to enable) is under Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Windows

Components / Remote Desktop Services / Remote Desktop Session Host / Device and Resource Redirection Once you nable it, just remember to update the group policies to apply the changes.

11.

I'm not sure how to count the number of licences required. If the host

computer is unattended, does that require a licence?

The person who sits in front of the Rdpls computer and logs in and works on it does not require a license. Only the users who log in remotely require license.

For example, if someone will work all the time on the local RDPlus computer and someone else needs to connect with RDP you will only need one license.

It is also important to consider an extra license for administration/support purposes as sometimes you will find that all the licenses are in use. Unless you have a remote support application like LogMeIn or

TeamViewer you won’t be able to connect unless you log off one of the users to free up one license.

12.

Printer error! "Windows cannot find 'c:\Program Files\RDPLUS\

UserDesktop\files\universalprinter.exe'

It most likely because of your antivirus software. Antiviruses usually recognise this file as a virus. On the latest release V 6.1 there have been some improvements to avoid these files from being detected as threats.

Please check your antivirus software’s quarantine/virus vault and restore the file if you find it. After this, you should create an exception for that file on your AV.
