Cashpoint

®

card or Visa debit card?

It’s your choice.

Our Under 19s Account offers a specially designed Visa debit card to anyone aged 11 or over, or a Cashpoint® card if you decide that’s right for you.

Our Cashpoint

®

card.

If you only need a card to access money at our cash machines, our Cashpoint® card

gives you access to over 4,200 Lloyds TSB Cashpoint® machines across the UK.

Or you can use our Visa debit card...

r In shops, over the phone and online (your Visa debit card won’t work in some retailers or on websites that aren’t suitable for your age group, such as gambling sites).

r To take out up to £300 a day from any of our 4,200 Lloyds TSB Cashpoint®

machines free of charge or over 62,000 LINK cash machines (a charge may apply).

r To withdraw up to £50 cashback free of charge in most supermarkets. If you want to buy something and there is enough money in your account, everything will go through automatically. If there isn’t, you shouldn’t be able to buy the item, as this Visa debit card is designed to make sure you can’t spend money you don’t have.

In the extremely unlikely event that something goes wrong and your account goes overdrawn by mistake, we won’t charge you anything and we’ll work with you to make sure your account is put right.

card or Visa debit card.

1. Valid from – This is the date you can start using your Visa debit card. 2. Expires end – You won’t be able to use your card after this date – but we’ll

automatically send you a new one before then.

3. Cardholder’s name – Your name will appear here.

4. Card number – This is the unique long number across the front of your card. On the back of your Visa debit card[QWoNNƆPFUGXGPPWODGTUQPVJGYJKVG

signature strip where you sign your name. The last three digits of this code are usually needed when you shop online or over the phone. This code is sometimes described as your security code or CVV2 code.

With our under 19s account Visa Debit card it’s easy to make your everyday purchases, whether it’s cinema or train tickets, lunch or stationery supplies. However, some transactions, like gambling, may be inappropriate for your age group, so your card comes with added functionality and will block your purchases in some shops or on some websites that it recognises as being potentially unsuitable. This means that occasionally it may not work for some of your other purchases because it thinks they are unsuitable too. If you want to change you card to one that doesn’t have this added protection you can ask for a replacement card in branch when you turn 16.

Chip and PIN.

Chip and PIN is when you enter your PIN into a keypad to buy something. Using it is simple:

r Insert your Visa debit card into a card reader or PIN pad and check the amount.

r Enter your PIN carefully and the machine will check it’s correct, and print you a receipt.

r You’ll still need to sign for some of your purchases, instead of using chip and PIN. For example when you’re travelling abroad or where a retailer hasn’t yet upgraded to chip and PIN.

Going abroad.

r If you are travelling abroad you can use your Visa debit card to pay for things anywhere where you see the Visa sign, including shops, restaurants and cafes.

r It’s more convenient and safer than carrying lots of cash around, plus you can withdraw local currency from any cash machine that displays the Visa sign.

r Let us know your travel dates and where you’re heading; that way we know to expect overseas transactions on your account. Pop into your local branch or call us on 0845 3 000 000.

r Charges apply to use your Visa debit card abroad, please see our Banking Charges Guide for full information or ask any member of staff for details.

Staying in control.

Keep track of what you’re spending and what’s left in your account so you don’t withdraw more cash than is available in your account.

Use Lloyds TSB Cashpoint® machines

24 hours a day to check your balance or print a mini statement.

Things to be aware of.

When you use your Visa debit card the amount of the transaction is set aside temporarily before it leaves your account. This means you won’t be able to use this money for anything else, helping you to get an accurate view of what money is actually available for you to spend.

Remembering your PIN

2GTUQPCN+FGPVKƆECVKQP0WODGT

With your card comes a PIN. When you pay for something in a shop or take out money from a Cashpoint,®[QWYKNNPGGFVQV[RGKP[QWT2+0+H[QWoTGƆPFKPIKV

hard to remember the one we’ve given you, then you can change it to one that’s easier to remember.

To change your PIN visit any Lloyds TSB Cashpoint® and insert your card and

current PIN. Then select ‘PIN services’ and follow the on-screen instructions.

If your card is lost or stolen.

Your Visa debit card or Cashpoint® card is much safer to carry around than cash.

But you must report any theft or loss of your card as soon as possible so that we can prevent other people from using it.

r Call into any Lloyds TSB branch, or call the Lloyds TSB 24 hour Lost & Stolen Cards service on 0800 096 9779, in the UK, or (+44) 1273 799 272 from abroad. 9GYKNNWUWCNN[UGPF[QWCPQVJGTECTFYKVJKPVJTGGVQƆXGYQTMKPIFC[U

Top Tip.

Choose a number that’s special just to you and that you can remember. It’s a good idea to avoid birthdays and repeating the same number (like 5555). Remember, your PIN is secret – we recommend you don’t write it down. You must never give your PIN to anyone else including bank staff and the police.

with all your details to save you even more time – just ask a member of staff for more information.

Cheques can take up to six working days after we receive them for you to be sure the money will be available for you to use.

Please remember, weekends and Bank Holidays are not counted as working days.

When do I earn interest on the cheques I pay in?

When you pay in cheques of up to £1,000 over the counter at a Lloyds TSB branch between 9am and 4.30pm on a weekday, we’ll pay you interest the moment you pay them in.

Managing your money.

(17)

Setting up a standing order.

You could ask your parents to set up a standing order from their bank account for your pocket money/allowance. This means that the money will be paid directly into your account and you’ll be able to take it out with your Visa debit card. Just give your parents your account number and sort code and they can arrange it for you.

Cashpoint

card.

A cash card allows you to draw money from cash machines (ATMs). Many banks set a daily limit as to how much you can take out, even if your account contains funds.

Credit.

If your account is in credit, it means that you have money available to spend.

LINK cash machines.

LINK is a UK network of cash

machines. You can use your Visa debit or Cashpoint® card to take out money

from cash machines where you see the LINK sign.

Interest.

A proportion (or percentage) of money on top of an original amount. If you save money, you can often receive interest from the bank on the money you save.

Cashpoint/ATM.

An Automated Teller Machine (ATM) is a cash dispensing machine (or ‘hole in VJGYCNNo YJKEJ[QWƆPFKPOCP[RNCEGU including banks, shopping centres and railway stations. In order to be able to use an ATM you need a Cashpoint® card

Debit.

Money which is taken out of an account is ‘debited from’ that account.

Balance.

Is the amount of money you have in your bank or other account at any time (or the amount you owe on your credit or store card). It will be shown on your statement. ‘Balance brought forward’ is the balance that was left at the end of last month.

Jargon buster.

(19)

Direct Debit.

This is an arrangement where the bank releases money from your account to pay bills automatically. The organisation you are paying can change the amount of a Direct Debit, but you are told in advance how much it will be. If you set up a Direct Debit to pay household bills you usually receive a discount, and it means that you don’t have to worry about sending off a cheque each month.

Standing order.

A way of paying regular amounts automatically which you set up yourself (as opposed to a Direct Debit which is set up by the organisation you are paying). Once set up, the bank will pay the agreed amount of money on a regular basis to a particular person or company.
