How is the Internet of Things World Forum (IoTWF) different from the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) and other IoT-focused organizations?
The IoTWF is a group created and hosted by Cisco that brings together executive representatives from more than 75 vendors, industry leaders, academia representatives, and IoT thought leaders with the purpose of working together to accelerate IoT market awareness and adoption and move the industry forward across primary IoT areas. The IoTWF Steering Committee membership is by invitation only and does not have an associated fee to participate. The IoTWF hosts an annual event where the advances and agreements reached by the members are showcased and shared.
The IIC is a consortium also focused on promoting awareness of IoT and fostering collaboration, but it has a narrower messaging focus and specific industries. Some IoT organizations develop standards. The IIC focuses on creating frameworks for production environments for industrial Internet applications using common architecture and standards. The IIC is open to any organization and is a fee-based membership.
