SECTION 02208 CHAIN LINK FENCING PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 SECTION INCLUDES:

A. Remove existing fence and install new chain link fencing and appurtenances as complete units including necessary erection accessories, fittings, and fastenings as shown on Construction Drawings and ADOT details. Chain link fencing is required to be constructed on the side that faces the road (north).

instructions of fencing MANUFACTURER to provide secure and aligned installation.

B. Construction of the six foot high chain link fence shall be performed in a manner that conforms to the applicable provisions of Section 902, "Chain Link Fence", of the Arizona Department of Transportation Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, and ADOT STD Details C-12.10.

C. The fence line locations shall be located as shown on the Construction Drawings.

D. Concrete within post-holes shall be mounded and crowned to shed water away from the post.

E. The chain link fabric shall be fastened on the side of the posts facing the outside of the property.

F. The new chain link fence shall be permanently fastened to the existing fence in an appropriate manner, subject to approval by the ENGINEER.

G. Signs shall be installed at designated locations established by CITY.

H. If conflicts between the Construction Drawings, ASTM Standards, or State Specifications arise, the more stringent standard shall apply.

E. Notify CITY of unexpected subsurface conditions and discontinue affected work in area until notified to resume work.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXISTING GRADE/FOUNDATION GRADE PREPARATION

A. Scarify subgrade soils to a 6‐inch depth prior to soil placement, and moisture condition to within 2% of optimum moisture as determined by ASTM 698A.

B. Prior to placement of final cover, foundation grade shall be compacted to a minimum of 95% of standard proctor as determined by ASTM 698A.

C. Prior to placement of engineered fill, verify that no substantial thickness of loose or uncompacted soil is present in the fill area.

D. Begin engineered fill only when the ENGINEER has accepted the underlying subgrade.

E. Stockpiling of soils with the boundary of the landfill is not allowed.

3.2 ENGINEERED FILL AND FINAL COVER PLACEMENT

A. Place engineered fill and final cover to the lines and grades shown on the Construction Drawings.

B. Place in loose lift thickness not exceeding 6 inches compacted thickness.

C. Compact each lift to a minimum of 95 percent relative compaction at a moisture content of ± 2% of optimum as determined by ASTM D‐698.

D. Engineered fill and final cover for the construction of the perimeter channels should be placed as shown on the Construction Drawings.

E. Finish grade the surface final cover layer with a motor grader or as approved by the CITY in preparation for placement of rock cover layer per Section 02227.

F. Grade final surface to a vertical tolerance of within + 0.1 foot.

G. Stockpiling of soils with the boundary of the landfill is not allowed.

3.4 FIELD QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Field quality assurance (QA) will be performed in accordance with the Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) plan.

B. The CITY may perform additional testing to determine the conformance of the materials with these Specifications and the Construction Drawings.

C. The CITY may perform sampling and testing of excavated materials as they are stockpiled.

D. The CONTRACTOR shall cooperate fully with the CITY in performance of sampling and testing.

A. The purpose of the test pad is to develop procedures and equipment to achieve the permeability required. Once established these procedures and equipment shall be used for the rest of the final cover. Procedures include;

• The equipment and method of moisture conditioning soil.

• The equipment and method of achieving compaction.

B. The contractor shall submit a schedule to the ENGINEER prior to any work on the test pad to allow the engineer to verify the work according to the Coolidge Landfill Construction Quality Assurance Plan.

C. Place in loose lift thickness not exceeding 6 inches compacted thickness.

D. Compact each lift to a minimum of 95 percent relative compaction at a moisture content of ± 2% of optimum as determined by ASTM D‐698.

E. Stockpiling of soils within the boundary of the landfill is not allowed.

A. Verify that all necessary pre‐construction submittals such as conformance testing of the gravel material has been performed and approved prior to placement.

B. Establish lines and grades for placement of the drainage gravel in accordance with the Construction Drawings.

C. Grade and smooth existing final cover soil as needed in preparation for placement of gravel.

3.2 PLACEMENT – ROCK EROSION LAYER

A. For rock erosion layer: spread gravel at rate of 622 tons/acre (2.25 cf/sy) at a uniform thickness of approximately 3 inches over the completed final cover.

B. Place only when the underlying final cover has been placed in accordance with the Specifications and accepted by the CITY.

C. Place to lines and grades shown on the Construction Drawings.

D. Spread and place materials in a single lift.

3.3 PLACEMENT ‐ ROCK ARMOR LAYER

A. For rock armor layer: Loosely spread gravel over the finished final cover.

A. Loosely place erosion layer to the minimum thickness on top cover and side slopes.

B. At the completion of construction, the CONTRACTOR shall provide an as‐built survey drawing in digital form to the CITY that includes the survey point data demonstrating compliance with the Construction Drawings and Specifications.

C. After erosion layer has been placed, the CONTRACTOR shall protect the materials to prevent inundation from dirt and to prevent damage from other construction activities until the Work is complete and accepted by the CITY.

3.4 FIELD QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Sampling and testing of materials to determine material type may be performed by the CITY at the stockpile, at the material source, or at the place of use in accordance with the CQA Plan.

B. The CITY will perform gradation tests of materials before and/or during placement in accordance with ASTM C136.

C. Contractor shall assist the CITY as necessary in collecting material samples and conducting tests.

D. CITY reserves the option of waving gradation specifications if products submitted by CONTRACTOR meet design intent.

B. The CONTRACTOR shall submit complete a Work Plan for approval by the CITY and ENGINEER, which describes probe extension.

C. Upon completion of the installation, the CONTRACTOR shall provide as‐built documentation showing the length of the extension, the final probe configuration, and other data pertinent to the work performed.

PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.1 GENERAL

A. The CONTRACTOR shall furnish and install all PVC and steel cover casing, and related items as required for completion of the gas probe extensions as herein specified.

2.2 WELL AND GAS PROBE CASING

A. The gas probe casing shall be non‐perforated, sized as needed to match existing Schedule 40 PVC threaded pipe specifically manufactured for use in well construction as manufactured by Aardvark Corporation or equivalent. The PVC pipe shall meet all the requirements of ASTM F480.

B. Joints shall be threaded or fastened using an approved external coupling method (sleeve and clamp, etc.). The joining method shall not protrude into or otherwise interfere with the function of the gas probe or the sampling equipment. Glued joints shall not be allowed on the gas probe extensions. No PVC glue, paint, chemical cleaners, or volatile solvents of any kind shall be used in raising, fitting, or attaching gas probe extension elements.

2.3 BACKFILL

A. The backfill material for the gas probe casings shall be engineered fill or final cover meeting the requirements of Section 02222.

2.4 LOCKING COVER EXTENSIONS

A. Locking cover extensions shall consist of steel casing pipe matching the type and size of the existing covers currently in place for each gas probe to be extended.

3.1 GENERAL

A. This portion of the Specifications describes the procedures to be followed for installation of the extensions to the gas probes. The materials and locations shall be as shown on the Construction Drawings and in these Specifications.

3.2 NOTIFICATION

A. The CONTRACTOR shall be responsible to give at least 24 hours advance notice prior to performance of specific operations as follows for the probe:

1. Intent to start work on the installation at the site.

2. Scheduling the final setting of casing, and placement of backfill and locking cover extensions.

B. These minimum advance notification requirements are based on a normal sequencing and scheduling of work without unusual delays or interruptions. If delays or interruptions should occur, the ENGINEER shall be given as much advance notice as possible on the restart of work of the project.

3.3 CASING AND LOCKING COVER EXTENSION INSTALLATION

A. The gas probe extension shall be extended to the length shown on the Construction Drawings and modified as necessary to fit the field conditions as determined by the Engineer.

B. The casing shall be extended such that the top of the well head is at flush with the final cover surface.

C. The CONTRACTOR shall then weld on a new section of steel casing with a locking cover to the existing steel casing such that the top of the cover matches the top of extended pipe.

D. The CONTRACTOR shall then backfill the extension using final cover. The backfill shall be mounded around the new casing to a height of no less than 6 inches above original grade. The backfill shall be compacted in a manner that does not damage or otherwise disturb the installed casing to a minimum of 95%

relative compaction as determined by ASTM D698A.

A. The CONTRACTOR shall use all means necessary to protect all work, including all materials and completed work of other Sections.

B. In the event of damage, the CONTRACTOR shall immediately make all repairs and replacements necessary to the approval of the CITY or QA/QC Engineer at no additional cost to the CITY.

GAS PROBE DECOMMISSIONING PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 SECTION INCLUDES

A. The work to be performed includes the furnishing of all labor, material, transportation, tools, supplies, equipment and appurtenances, and the performance of all work required for decommissioning (capping) existing gas probe in accordance with the Construction Drawings and these Specifications.

casing at least 2’ below foundation grade.

B. The gas probe shall be capped at least 2’ below foundation grades as shown on the Construction Drawings and modified as necessary to fit the field conditions as determined by the Engineer.
