Did you know?

What to do before administering baby or child first aid

When a child or baby is experiencing a medical crisis, it is important to provide care and seek help as quickly as possible. But because their bodies are still forming, more delicate, and more compact than an adult’s, delivering child or baby first aid is different than administering care to an adult. Please review the following steps provided by the American Red Cross, https://www.redcross.org/take-a-class/first-aid/

PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN

PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH, DEFENDER OF LIFE Dearest St. Joseph, at the word of an angel, you lov- ingly took Mary into your home. As God's humble servant, you guided the Holy Family on the road to Bethlehem, welcomed Jesus as your own son in the shelter of a manger, a fled far from your homeland for the safety of both Mother and Child. We praise God that as their faithful protector, you never hesitated to sacrifice for those entrusted to you. May your exam- ple inspire us also to welcome, cherish, and safeguard God's most precious gift of life. Help us to faithfully commit ourselves to the service and defense of human life - especially where it is vulnerable or threatened.

Obtain for us the grace to do the will of God in all things. Amen.

Dear Parishioners,

ParishSoft has been for Sacred Heart Church our electronic offertory vendor for many years.

We feel, however, that it is now time to change vendors to one that better meets our needs.

Effective August 1, 2021, we will be using Online Giving, from Our Sunday Visitor (OSV), as our electronic offertory vendor. Considerable thought and analysis have gone into this

decision; our reasons for change are:

 Better Pricing

 More effective data interface and back- office support

 Our Sunday Visitor is an established Catholic support service (www.osv.com)

 Flexibility in payment options Online Giving is intended to be a convenient tool for you to use, and we strongly support both Online Giving and Offering Envelops for contributions to our parish. Online Giving is the electronic way to participate in weekly offertory.

Start Giving Online Today!

1) Visit our church website at: https://

osvhub.com/sacredheart/funds 2) Create and account.

3) Schedule your recurring gifts.

Please prayerfully consider giving online. If you have any questions, contact the church office at: 626-332-3570.

God Bless

Rev. William Easterling

A one-time gift via PayPal is also available.

Your gifts and talents are needed... God has qualified you uniquely to serve his people in some way. Please prayerfully consider one of the following opportunities. Many of our minis- tries can no longer function because we don't have enough vol- unteers! Please call our Parish Office for more information 626.332.3570.

Food Bank/Ministry needs your help

Looking to help those in need? The CCST (Crisis Chris- tian Service Team) needs your help.

We are looking to increase the nutritional value of the cur- rent dry goods that are distributed twice a month to those in need. Fruits and vegetables can tend to fall to the bot- tom of the grocery list for those with fixed incomes, as do more expensive items. Our team will now be set up to accept donations twice a month, each Wednesday and Thursday before our normal distribution on the second and fourth Saturday of the month. We will print a reminder in our bulletin the week before each collection as a reminder, so keep an eye on your bulletin.

For the month of October our schedule will be as follows:

FIRST collection: Wed., 10/6 and Thur., 10/7 What: Fruits/vegetables or laundry detergent SECOND collection: Wed., 10/20 and Thur., 10/21 What: Fruits/vegetables or toilet paper

Donations will only be accepted between 9:00am and 12:00pm on noted Wednesday’s and Thursday’s.

We appreciate your willingness to help the food angels ministry increase nutritional value and balanced meals those who cannot afford to do so without our help.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

BLESSING OF THROATS READINGS FOR THE WEEK READINGS FOR THE WEEK

GIFTS

In today’s readings, we discover that material wealth alone does not keep us from discipleship. We will see that there are other gifts more important than material wealth, but even so, it is how we use our gifts that matters most.

Today’s scriptures point to the value of the gifts of wisdom, trusting in God, and letting our actions reflect the love of God from within. It is not gold that causes us to fall, but rather the desire for gold above all other things. From the readings in Wisdom and Hebrews, we find the source of God’s gifts in our lives. Wisdom is more valuable than worldly possessions. In Hebrews, we are challenged to look at our own values and admit honestly what controls our lives.

THE PATH

People find their way to paradise more by a path of footprints than by a pack of road maps.

—Anonymous

FEAST OF FAITH Agnus Dei

After the sign of peace, the priest breaks the host in- to pieces, and prepares the patens or plates of hosts for the assembly. In the early church, “the breaking of the bread” was the name given to the entire Eucharistic lit- urgy, so central was this action to the meaning of the Christian life. For just as the one bread is broken and given to many people, the many are made one in re- ceiving it.

During this ritual action, we sing an ancient litany, calling on Jesus as the “Lamb of God”—the words used by John the Baptist when he pointed to Jesus walking beside the Jordan River (John 1:29, 36). In calling Jesus “the Lamb of God,” John was already pointing to the death that Jesus would die: in giving his life, Jesus would become the Paschal Lamb of the new covenant. During the Mass, when we call on the Lamb of God, we call to mind his self-sacrificing love, his blood poured out for us, and we ask this compassionate Lord for mercy and peace.

READINGS FOR THE WEEK LECTURAS DE LA SEMANA

DONES
