StoryWalk

StoryWalk® is an innovative way for children and adults to enjoy picture books, reading, the outdoors, and exercise all at the same time! The Lighthouse Point Library’s
StoryWalk® follows a sand trail in De Groff Park at NE 52 Street. Daylight hours.

Bats in the Library! Craft
No registration required. Ongoing self-paced program.
Month of October.
All Ages
In October stop by the Library for a drop-in Halloween craft! Projects are available in the kids’ room or can be requested through curbside takeout. They can be completed in the Library or at home. The craft changes each week and includes bats, spiders, owls, and pumpkins. Email a photo of you and your project for a chance to win
a copy of the book Bats in the Library! Send your photo to
[email protected] with your full name, phone number, and include the include the words Press Release YES or NO. Yes means the Library may use the photo on future StoryWalks, print, or social media (with first names only and no tags).

Youth

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
®Registration required.
Ages Newborn to 6 years Ongoing self-paced program.
This national program promotes the practice of reading BEFORE a child sets foot in kindergarten. New registered participants receive their first starfish reading record and a free book from the Friends of the Library. Each time you and your child read a book (any book and yes you can repeat books) your child will color a starfish on their reading record. Each time they read 100 books they receive a new record, a certificate, and a special treat from the Friends of the Library!

Monthly STEAM Labs (Online)
Registration required.
Participants are registered for all three programs.
Ages 5 years to 12 years (Grades K-6) Monthly Online Programs in October, November, December
STEAM LABS focus on Science, Technology, Engineering Arts and Math. Topics MAY include simple machines, magnetism and circuits. Programs presented by Miss Bayli with assistance from volunteers. Project packets are available for pickup at the Library. Supplies supported by the Friends of the Library.
Monthly STEAM Coding (In Person) Registration required. Masks required. Community Room.
Participants are registered for all three dates.
Ages 7 years to 11 years (Grades 2-6) DAY: Tuesdays TIME: 4:30PM DATES: Oct 12. Nov 09. Dec 7.
Kids have fun while learning the basics of computer programming through games and activities. Sessions cover algorithms, if-then, repeating/looping, and events.
Program presented by Miss Bayli with assistance from volunteers. Supported by the Friends of the Library and Barker Library Fund.

Learn to Knit and Crochet (In Person)

Learn to knit or crochet from lifelong yarn artist and library volunteer Nancy Crockett and coordinated by Miss Pam. New participants should bring Red Heart Super Saver Worsted Yarn, Size 8 Knitting Needles, Size G or H Crochet Hook with them to class.
Please remember late arrivals do not extend the class meeting time and if no participants have arrived 15 minutes after the scheduled start time, the session will be canceled.

The goal of the Friends Zoom Book Club is to encourage lifelong literacy and lively discussion. Sessions are scheduled to be led by mystery novel guru and library volunteer John Spera and coordinated by Miss Christy, Miss Cathy, and Miss Bayli. The Friends of the Lighthouse Point Library have purchased multiple print copies of each month’s Book Club title. The Barker Library fund supports eBook and streaming audiobook copies (when available). Both the print and eBook copies are available for checkout through the Library.ZOOM 101 (In person)

LHP Seniors
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funded programs are only open to Lighthouse Point residents ages 62 and over.
Registration and enrollment in CDBG program is ONLY in-person at the Library.
All CDBG paperwork and waivers must be on file to register. Registration system varies by
course. For information on how to enroll and register in a CDBG program call the library duringbusiness hours 954-946-6398 Proof of City residency, age, and a signed FY21/22 enrollment form in the CDBG program are required BEFORE attending any class. Participants who attend class will receive a FREE print copy of
the monthly book club title, watercolor materials, or yoga supplies. The Barker Library fund supports circulating eBook copies. The Friends support music cost for Yoga. Participation in the program is a requirement of CDBG funding.
Individuals who enroll in the program but do not attend TWO sessions in a row will lose their space in the class.
October 1 starts a NEW CDBG Year so new paperwork is required.
Except for CDBG technology courses (Zoom 101), each participant may only register for ONE CDBG Course at a time. Participants may choose
CDBG Book Club OR CDBG Watercolor OR CDBG Outdoor Yoga.
Non-CDBG classes do not count towards this new limit.

Presented by: Library volunteer Diane McEwan and coordinated by all Library staff members.
Location: Frank McDonough Park at 3500 NE 27th Avenue Lighthouse Point, FL (off of Sample Road).
Spot: OUTDOORS next to Tennis Center on the field (see the red smiley face on photo).
Parking: All around the park. Please DO NOT park at the Tennis Center.
Max Cap: 15 participants PER GROUP.
Groups: Group A is on Tuesdays. Group B is on Wednesdays.
Participants may NOT attend both groups or substitute classes between groups.
CDBG Grant will provide: One yoga mat, one yoga brick, and one ink pen per participant (to sign-in weekly). Since grant funded items CAN NOT be ordered until Oct 1 they may not be available for first class date.
Participants must bring to each class: Their own towel, water, their fully disinfected yoga mat, brick, and a pen (to sign in). Please also bring a mask if you plan to enter any buildings (including the restrooms).
Weather: In the event of heavy rain the OUTDOOR yoga class will be canceled. Participants will be notified by email. There is NOT an indoor backup location for this outdoor course.
Field Maintenance: The Library has requested that any work on the fields (landscaping, cutting the grass, etc.) NOT take place just before or during the yoga classes.
Instructors Note: The instructor may need to touch
participants to adjust their yoga positions. Participants who do not wish to be touched must tell the instructor before the class starts.
Lottery registration: Was completed on October 5th. Any remaining spaces in the groups are now first come.
Registration Note: THIS IS A PILOT PROGRAM.
In December Library staff will reach out to registered participants via email to let them know the status of future classes and CDBG guidelines. Please remember to be KIND to staff, the volunteer instructor, and each other.
