Stability of Taxotere® 1-vial (20mg/ml) Infusion Solution Following Refrigerated Stora-ge

S. Acott, M. Hart

The authors, from Sanofi -Aventis UK, demonstrated that the new Taxotere 1-vial formulation (20 mg/ml) dilu-ted in 0.9% sodium chloride (200 mg in 250 mL) is stable for 7 days under refrigeration at 5°C with a subsequent sto-rage for 24 hours at approxi-mately 20°C.

Stability of amiodarone in cap-sules for paediatric patients

L. Rughoo, J. Vigneron, N. Véran, H. Zénier, N. Sobalak, I. May, B. Demoré

The authors have studied by HPLC the stability of amioda-rone at diff erent dosages (10, 60, 100 mg), in capsules for paediatric patients stored in three primary packaging at ambient temperature and un-der dark conditions.

Amioda-rone paediatric capsules were stable for six months, with no infl uence of primary packa-ging.

Stability and compatibility of paracetamol and ketoprofen in a fail-safe IV administration set

L. Bernard, V. Sautou, D. Bourdeaux, J. Chopineau

The authors have studied the stability of paracetamol 10 mg/mL and ketoprofen 1 mg/ mL as individual and succes-sive infusions with the iv ad-ministration set Intrafi x Safe-set (B.Braun Medical) under ambient light and temperatu-re. Repeated individual perfu-sions of paracetamol or keto-profen are possible with this iv administration set until 24 hours.

Stability of a parenteral ad-mixture for epidural analgesia in labour

E. Bonville, V. Sautou, D. Bourdeaux, L. Bernard, J.

Chopineau

Epidural analgesia admixture associating 10 ml of sufentanil 250 μg/5ml, 2 ml of clonidine 0.15mg/ml in 100 ml bag con-taining 0.625 mg/ml of levo-bupivacain has been shown to be stable over 24 hours at 25°C and at 33°C, in light con-ditions.

Stability study of a topical ci-dofovir cream

L. Havard, R. Linossier, A. Ber-nard, C. Mequinion, M. Bap-tiste, P. Prognon

The authors have developed a cidofovir-based cream for HIV infected patients with herpes genital warts resisting to the usual treatments. This topi-cal cream has been shown to be stable at least 15 days un-der stressed conditions (high T°, acidic/basic/oxidative en-vironment) and more than 1 month in normal conditions.

The European Congress of

clinical pharmacy took place

in Lyon, France during last

November. Five posters were

devoted to the stability of drugs.

NEW MONOGRAPHS

Polymyxin B

Polymyxin B is a lipopeptide antibiotic increasingly used as a last therapeutic option due to the emergence of multidrug-resistant bacteria. Developed in the 1950s, polymyxin B was one of two polymyxin antibiotics that showed great promise as eff ective therapy for Pseudomonas aeruginosa and

Acinetobacter baumanii infections.Intravenous polymyxin B has been used for the treatment of critically ill patients with various nosocomial infections. Polymyxin B was stable for at least one day when stored at 4°C or 25°C in infusion bags containing

0.9% sodium chloride injection.
