Mineral insulated copper cables show

outstanding performance in case of fire.

Due to the specific constructions,

FIRECEL MI cables can exceed all tests

according to international standards for fire

resistance.

Compared to soft skin cables, they

show unique resistance for long time to

temperature, to mechanical shocks and

water. The cable can be bent also after a fire,

it can withstand further impacts and water

immersions.

The disadvantages, compared to soft skin

cables, are the installation, that requires

much more time, the seals and the

connection process, which require specific

tools and care for mineral oxide humidity

absorption, and higher cost of cable.

Applications

FIRECEL MI are intended to be installed in

critical safety circuits which are used to operate

under fire conditions in severe applications where

the mechanical cables performances are

high performance at high temperature (melting point 2600°C)

Metallic Outer Sheath

High quality DHP copper sheath, manufactured starting from tubes

extruded and drawn only (not welded),

melting point 1082°C

Outer Sheath

LSZH additional outer covering. Such flame retardant polyolefin is

characterised by high performance in corrosion resistance and low

smoke emission.

Production process foresee many steps of diameter reduction (both

drawings and rollings) separated by high temperature annealing.

Strong compression of MgO powder (density about 2 g/cm

3

) allows very

high values of insulation resistance (also if burned, 180° bent or flattened)

and thermal conductivity. Therefore current ratings are higher than soft

skin cables, especially at high temperature.

It’s original

FIRECEL MI

termination type,

characterised by minimum volume and

minimum cost and execution time.

Since it doesn’t foresee the connection of

outer copper sheath, inside the junction box,

to the earth system, it’s frequently used in

public lighting to connect to double insulated

lights and, for industrial applications in

explosionproof installation, within EEx d brass

RAD ISO glands.

LSZH Covered Cable

Polyolefin extruded protection on the cable, available in red, orange, white and

black colour, is required when:

There are aggressive substances and therefore there’s danger for corrosion.

Typical LSZH cables usage is in chemical, pharmaceutics and oil industries.

Specific colour must identify the circuit type, like, for instance, LSZH red to

identify all cables part of fire detection systems.

Specific LSZH colour is considered as the best solution for cable camouflage.

Seals, Connections and Fixing Systems

Earth Tail Seals

Copper outer sheath can be directly connected to earth system inside junction

box by an annealed wire, already welded on brass pot.

Also metallic junction box is connected as well by mechanical connection to outer

sheath by brass glands, tightened through a locknut. Earth tail seals can so avoid

an unpleasant outer earth connection.

A correct execution of earth connection is extremely important for

FIRECEL MI

system, more than all other standard cables, since

FIRECEL MI

can be installed

at sight, exposed directly to touch also under 2.5 m of height, due to its structural

mechanical resistance.

Typical Connection

Inside junction boxes or enclosures, using standard

hubs,

FIRECEL MI

system is connected to standard

wiring system. Earth tail seal and brass gland (by

mechanical connection to metal enclosures) assure

perfect connection to earth/ground system.

brass glands are IP67 waterproof

approved.

Assembled and tested in

factory complete pieces

Cables can be supplied already assembled and

tested in required lengths. In this case installation is

very easy, no special tools are required.
