1-4 6th Grade Maritime Officer (Advanced Navigation Class)
The purpose of this course is to train graduates of vocational secondary schools (not related to maritime education) and those employed by shipping companies with the required education training to become ship officers engaged on domestic voyages.
The method of education is an effective combination of classroom lectures (1.5 months) and practical training on training ships (2 months).
1-5 Ocean-Going key Officer Course
(Navigation/Engineering)
The purpose of this course is to educate seamen to become work-ready through training and practical experience on ocean-going commercial ships for maritime educated graduates. This is a project to secure and cultivate ocean-going Japanese seamen, financially supported by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Japan.
Entrance Requirements
For those employed as ship officers engaged on domestic voyages (including administrative staff) ① Graduates of a secondary school (not related to maritime education)
② Over 18 years old before school entrance and a graduate equivalent to a secondary school
Entrance Requirements
Those who can take the National Examination for 3rd Grade Maritime Officer (oral examination) on the day of October 1 in the application year. In addition, the Martime Ⅰ-category Special Radio Operator License is required before starting the on-board training course.
Post Graduate Benefits
You can keep a navigational watch on ships of less than 700 tonnes. After 6 month experience on a ship, you will be allowed to take the national exam for the 6th Grade Maritime Officer.

According to the Pilot Law reformed in 2006, Marine Technical College started pilot related education, i.e. pilot training education, pilot license renewal training, etc., as a registered pilot training facility, using the acquired knowhow from the practical education/training.

The expiry date of the pilot license is in general, 5 years. Marine Technical College provides license renewal classes as a registered pilot license renewal training facility.

3-1 Ship-handling Simulator
The Ship-handling simulator at Marine Technical College is based on STCW, the international standard.
There is a simulated bridge equipped with actual equipment, i.e. steering wheel stand, engine console, radar, navigation light panel, etc., and a conical-shaped screen that reproduces images with a 240 degree horizontal and 35 degree downward fields of view. Various training scenarios can be created in an environment identical to that of a real ship.

BRM (Bridge Resource Management) Training
According to the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) as amended by the International Convention on STCW in June 2010, BRM training was made mandatory.The key to preventing accidents by human error is to learn and practice BRM training. Repeated classes continually enhance the safety awareness of each person for the safe operation of various vessels.
Ship-handling Simulator Training (Initial to Advanced Grade)
The comprehensive training includes basic ship operation on the open seas, give-way operation on converging waterway, maneuvering on narrow waterways, entering/leaving ports, berthing maneuvers, as well as, emergency response, i.e. engine failure, steering equipment failure, etc.Ship-handling Simulator (PEC) Training
There is a Pilot Exemption Certificate for ship captains that pilot in pilotage districts. Taking this course may reduce the amount of experience required on a ship.
National Instruments Operation Training Based on International Rules

The purpose of this course is to study planning, work supervision, and instructional methods for onboard maintenance work and its management for the purpose of acquiring the knowledge and skills and to enhance safety awareness required to promote safe and efficient work.

3-4 Tanker Simulator
The simulator is comprised of a tanker's simulated loading console and ship equipment panel, i.e. pipelines, pumps, valves, etc. Similar to an actual ship, coordinate the cargo control room, deck, and pump room to conduct loading/ unloading training exercises. Practice loading/unloading scenarios and train on handling emergency situations.

3-5 Tug Simulator
The goal of this course is to improve the skills of tug boat crew and provide comprehensive training, from the basics to practical operation, through BRM training by using "navigation equipment" and "ship models" unique to tug boats.

4-1 Engine Operation
Practical engine training is comprised of periodic servicing of the main diesel engine, diesel generators, and various equipment related to these machines and emergency maintenance due to equipment failure while the vessel is docked and actually sailing. The training consists of the "Maintenance Course" to educate engine personnel to be work-ready and the "Basic Skills Course" to provide the basics in engine maintenance and repair.

4-2 Engine Room Simulator
The Engine Room Simulator (ERS) simulates the engine room of a diesel ship with a two-cycle low speed long stroke diesel engine as its propulsion, comprised of a main diesel engine, diesel generator, turbo generator, auxiliary boiler, exhaust gas economizer, auxiliary machineries, heat exchanger, and various tanks. The various equipment operates, confirms, and responds to trouble in an identical manner to actual ships. The engine room simulator provides the experience and a deeper understanding of the basic knowledge, operation, and the component relationships regarding the diesel propulsion plant.

The objective of ERS training is to confirm and verify the knowledge of trainees regarding diesel plants and their experience on training ships and actual ships to change the awareness of active engineers to become work-ready. The student is motivated to think when working. Training is specifically conducted as follows.

Engine Room Team Management (ETM) Training
ETM training is based on the safe and efficient operation of a ship and the prevention of accidents. Skill improvement is not the only issue. The objective is to improve team performance in error management, striving to minimize errors as a team by understanding behavior traits of human. While being conscious of shared team awareness, each member participates in the training as a leader or follower. The team will deliberate final decisions and its process. The ultimate objective is to change the awareness of team members.

The necessity and objective of ETM training are explained along with lectures on ergonomic issues. The course comprises of team training based on fostering team awareness (ETM mind). The following courses can be selected or mixed for team training.

There has been no end to vessel accidents where 70% to 80% of accidents at sea are caused by human error. To avoid these types of accidents, practicing with the Bridge Resource Management (BRM) system is essential. Its effectiveness in training is well known.
Marine Technical College conducts educational/training follow ups using a video produced in 2004, "BRM-For Further Safe Ship Operation", and a DVD produced in February 2008, "BRM for One-man watch-Breaking the Chain of Errors".
Various information will be shared with maritime companies to ensure safe ship operation and instruct better awareness.
GMDSS Simulator
This simulator is used to increase the skills required to handle equipment and provide training in communications. The simulator can also be used for various courses, i.e. "Third Grade Marine Radio Communication Certification Training", "Ship Station Radio Personnel Certification Training", etc. and pre-training on land.

The purpose of this course is to give an instruction on the academics and skills required by graduates of a commercial ship education facility, seamen, and ocean-related personnel in developing countries.
