Reeson’s Ramblings

Deacon David Krueger sent me the following information to

promote an hour of prayer and adoration that will take place

the evening of January 31

st

at 7:00 PM. The theme of the

evening will be: Finding God in the Ordinary. This really got

me thinking. We never know how what we do will eventually

influence others.

I hope and pray that the ordinary things we

do every day will have a positive effect in the lives of

others. Please consider participating in this hour of prayer

and adoration and inviting some others to join you.

Pax,

Fr. Dave

Mikhail Gorbachev was the last Head of State for the Soviet Union. His

reforms, a summit conference with Ronald Reagan and his reorientation of

Soviet strategic arms contributed to the end of the Cold War and the

dissolution of the Soviet Union. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990.

President Gorbachev said he was inspired by Lech Walensa.

Lech Walensa was co-founder of the Solidarity Trade Union in Poland and later

served as president of Poland from 1990 to 1995. For his peaceful strike in the

communist country, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983. President

Walensa said was inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr, Martin Luther King JR, a Baptist Minister, became a civil rights activist

early in his career. For his work to end racial segregation and discrimination

through civil disobedience and other non-violent means, in 1964 he became the

youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Dr. King said he was inspired

by Rosa Parks.

Rosa Parks was a 42 year old black woman who was tired after a long day of

work. Riding the bus home from work, she refused to give up her seat for a

white passenger. What she did on an ordinary day on an ordinary ride home

inspired three Nobel Peace Prize winners so far.

God calls us to look for Him and serve Him in the ordinary. Sunday night, January

31

st

at 7:00 p.m. we will have an Adoration Service in the church. We will pray for the

grace to find God in the ordinary and end with Benediction. If you can’t stay for the

full service, feel free to come or go as you can.

Board Members Needed

The Saint Columbkille Educational Trust fund board is in need of two new members. The board normally meets 6-8 times per year to discuss, vote on, and distribute monetary grants to the various educational ministries within the parish, which includes the five-day school, preschool, religious education, and adult/youth formation. Membership on the board is a three-year term, and candidates are voted in by current board members. If you would like to be considered for the SCET board, please submit a short biography outlining your involvement in parish ministries, boards, or projects you have been on or currently involved in within the parish, and any other information you would like to share about yourself to Scott Eidem

(saeidem15@gmail.com) and Patrice Wolf

(plwolf113@gmail.com) by January 27, 2021. Thank you.

Wanted: Full-Time Communication

Coordinator

We are currently seeking candidates to fill the position of

Communication Coordinator on our St. Columbkille Parish Staff. The position is responsible for the development and dissemination of a consistent parish message, via multiple media sources and events, in support of the

parish’s focus on helping everyone take their next

step to be more like Jesus. This individual should be a practicing Catholic in good standing, active in parish life, and have a deep love for Jesus. The

Communication Coordinator will provide leadership and collaborative support to the efforts of the parish staff and groups. For a full position description and guidance for how to apply, please see our parish website, or contact Phil LaSala at

(pjlasala@saintcolumbkille.org).

Masks are Required at St. Columbkille

Effective immediately, masks are required at all Masses and parish gatherings. This decision was reached after much prayer and careful deliberation to promote the well-being of all our parishioners. Thank you for your cooperation!

School Mass Schedule Change

Beginning Monday, February 1st, the grade school students will have a NEW SCHEDULE for attending 8:15 a.m. Masses. Beginning in February grade school students will attend the 8:15 a.m. Masses on Monday through Thursday. This change means that there will be students at each 8:15 a.m. Mass on Wednesday and none at Friday morning Mass. If any parishioner had been attending the Wednesday morning Mass due to the absence of students, and due to concern about COVID in larger crowds, we encourage you to attend a Mass when we do not have grade school students—any

5:30 p.m. evening Mass or Friday’s 6:20 a.m. &

8:15 a.m.

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP - RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS

Give Until It Hurts

One of the characteristics of Everyday Stewardship is to be committed — to persevere daily in a way of life ac-knowledging that everything belongs to God.

I know, I know. Easier said than done.

Just ask Zebedee. It’s quite an image we get from the Gospel, after all. “So they left their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed him.”

There was Zebedee, about his business, mending nets with his two sons, who were undoubtedly his best workers

— they had to have been more dedicated than the hired men, who worked for wages rather than for family. And in an instant off they go, following this strange man.

I don’t know about you, but if my kids left me on a hot summer day to finish the lawn by myself, I wouldn’t be

too happy.

But Zebedee must have been someone quite special. Perhaps he realized that his sons didn’t belong to him — not really. They belonged to God, and from the beginning of time, it had been appointed that they would be among the first disciples of Christ. He passed, he called, they followed, and Zebedee obliged. He simply went back to mending his nets, I imagine.

Zebedee already understood what St. Teresa of Calcutta would say millennia later: “Give until it hurts.”

“You’re wasting my time.” “I’ve done so much for her; she owes me this.” How often do we think things, and

even people and relationships, belong to us? The truth is none of them do. We must be ready, as Zebedee was, to surrender them to God when He comes walking past.

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time • January 24th, 2021 9

Announcements

Confiteor:

I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my

thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault,

through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all

the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters,

to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Amen.

Glory to God:

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless

you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly

King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God,

Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins

of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the most High, Jesus

Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God, the Father. Amen.

Profession of Faith:

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and

invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father

before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made,

consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our

salva-tion he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,

and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose

again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in

glo-ry to judge the living and the dead and his Kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the

Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the

prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness

of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
