Auvergne University Law School offers a wide range of diplomas in the field of legal studies.
The bachelor’s degree (Licence) is a three-year program. The program is based on the choice of one major (out of two: Law or Economic and Social Administration) and one minor (out of the four proposed).
A minor is a specific program to be taken in conjunction with a major to complement the student’s skills and increase potential career opportunities. Currently, there are four proposed “minors”:
minor in “Law” / or a minor in “Economic and Social Administration” minor in “Economics and Management”
minor in “Social sciences” minor in “Success“
During the third year of the Bachelor’s degree in Law, the student has the choice between three specializations:
Private Law Public Law Political Sciences
With the Bachelor’s Degree in Economic and Social Administration, the students benefit from a multidisciplinary education in Law, Economics and Sociology.
As students spend 24 hours per week in the classroom, teaching materials and equipment are important considerations for students. Most of the classes are taught in large auditoriums but there are also 2 or 3 courses taught in smaller groups each semester.

Our students, whether French or international, enjoy access to a wide range of international experiences while studying at the Law School, including internships around the world, a variety of study abroad opportunities during the academic term, summer school, field trips, and substantial support system from the University for independent research abroad.
Indeed, the Auvergne University Law School has signed 34 Agreements with 34 Law Schools in Europe (Erasmus Exchanges) or outside Europe (bilateral agreements) in 14 States (including England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, Italy, the United States, Canada, China and Lebanon). The Law School participates in the Erasmus+ program within the areas of Study Exchanges, Work Placements and Staff Mobility.
A. Study Abroad
Auvergne University Law School students have the opportunity to study one or two semesters abroad, during their third or fourth year. Every year, more than 40 students participate in the exchange programs, most of which spend the academic year abroad.
B. Visiting Students
Every year, the Law School welcomes around 35 students from the universities participating in the exchange programs. The visiting students have access to a wide range of selected classes taught not only in French, but also in English.
The University of Auvergne offers one semester (60 hours - 10 ECTS) of French as a foreign language classes for free.
Academic calendar
Every year, the Law School International Office organises a Welcome Day during which you will be able to meet the other Erasmus students, your tutor and the International Office Team. Your presence is compulsory because all details about your studies will be explained during that meeting. You will be able to ask all the questions about your stay at the Law School, in Clermont-Ferrand or in France in general. Your tutor is a French student who is hired by the Law School during the whole academic year to help you in all the administrative affairs, comprehension of the courses, etc.
You will be required to be at the Law School for the classes, the remedial classes, and during the entire examination period.
ECTS and Learning Agreement
European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (E.C.T.S)
E.C.T.S is a standard for comparing the study attainment and performance of students of higher education across the European Union and other collaborating European countries. For successfully completed studies, ECTS credits are awarded. One academic year corresponds to 60 ECTS (30 ECTS per semester).
16/20 = Grade A 15/20 = Grade B 14/20 = Grade C 12/20 = Grade D 10/20 = Grade E 09/20 = Grade F Learning Agreement (L.A)
A learning agreement is requested for all Erasmus Exchange Programs. It is a kind of gentlemen’s agreement between the student, the home university and the host university. All the courses that the student wants to follow have to be written in the L.A.
At the Law School, a student who follows a course is required to take the exam. That document has to be signed by each party during the Erasmus period so as a Transcript of Records may be delivered at the end of the Erasmus Exchange Program. Your Learning Agreement may be modified within one month (if some courses may be far from the student expectations or if there is a problem with the agenda during the academic year). You shall inform the Law School International Office of those modifications. The courses are chosen by the student and confirmed by the International Office Team before being sent to the home university to be signed.
