    Department Name:  Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE)  Number of Openings:  1  Campus/Location:  Eastern Campus  Reports to (Supervisor):  Lana Benton  Work Schedule:  Monday, Wednesday and Friday    Internship Dates   5/31/16 to 8/12/2016            Learning Objectives:     Increase good working customer service skills to better serve incoming students via in person or  telephone.    Gain experience by assisting in developing and/or increase technology skills using social media  resources to assist the ABLE program to reach out to students who have dropped out.   Gain experience by assisting with “special projects” e.g. Annual GED® Graduation, Special Events  in the community representing Tri‐C’s ABLE program.    Build critical thinking and analytical skills by providing recommendations for improvement of a  project    Required Qualifications:   Some experience working in an office     Basic working knowledge using Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)    Able to provide some basic tutoring in the areas of math or reading    Preferred Qualifications:   Education major   Administrative Office System major     Office experience

Work Schedule: Twenty hours per week Internship Dates: 5/31/2016 to 8/12/2016

Learning Objectives:

• Learn good customer service skills by assisting with Creative Arts alumni survey. Communicate via telephone, email and social media to request employment updates and samples of alumni work.

• Learn how to build and maintain an image library by designing and implementing the archive of alumni projects and information.

• Learn how to build a portfolio by updating the VCD Department student work portfolio. • Learn how to effectively communicate to various audiences by updating our existing social

media sites and developing new ones.

• Learn how to brand effectively. Re-design the weekly Creative Arts newsletter. Produce the newsletter.

Required Qualifications:

• Visual Communication & Design majors or students with a knowledge of visual communication & design

• Basic knowledge of the elements and principles of design and Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• HTML, animation and 3D program knowledge and skills are preferred but not necessary • Skilled in Adobe Bridge and Microsoft Excel is preferable but not necessary
