What is a Carnegie Unit?

A Carnegie Unit is also known as a

• 3 units of Social Studies (Including US History, Government/Economics, and an elective)

• 1 unit of Foreign Language or CATE course • 1 unit of Computer

• 1 unit of PE or JROTC

These are provided in a tiered system to qualified South Carolina Residents, free from

alcohol or drug convictions, with the following requirements:

Palmetto Fellows Scholarship (towards a 4 year degree)

3.5 GPA and 1200 on SAT(CR and Math)/27 on ACT Top 6% of class (in the Sophomore, Junior or Senior year)

Or- 1400 on SAT (CR and Math) /32 ACT and 4.0 GPA

Renewable with a 3.0 GPA and 30 hours

Life Scholarship (towards a 2 or 4 year degree) At least two of the three following:

1100 (CR and Math) on SAT/24 on ACT 3.0 GPA

Top 30% of the class

Renewable with a 3.0 GPA and 30 credit hours

Hope Scholarship: (towards a 4 year degree) 3.0 GPA

Non-renewable. Students can qualify for a Life Scholarship

with a 3.0 GPA after the first year of college and 30 hours attained.

Lottery Tuition Assistance:

Enrollment in a 2-year technical college Minimum of 6 credit hours per semester

Maintain a 2.0 GPA after 24 hours of credit
