Executive Interview with

Frédéric Vadon, Presales Engineer, Nuexo.

We hear Frédéric’s recommendations for companies that are looking to integrate a cloud solution with existing in-house applications, and how Nuxeo position themselves in the Big Data and cloud arena.

We also learn about the benefits of Nuxeo’s open source ECM platform, the ways in which their cloud solution can help companies control their document management more effectively, and the way in which they approach the growing concerns of data security in the cloud.

The Nuxeo platform is a very flexible software and is essentially a web application. You can customise it and adapt it to your needs, and then deploy it either on your own private cloud infrastructure, or any other public cloud system. So, basically with Nuxeo, you build your own cloud software and then you decide; either you use it in your own system or you can even sell it as a software-as-a-service system.

What is very unique also with Nuxeo is that our customisation tool called Nuxeo Studio is provided as a software-as-a-service. You don’t need to understand anything to customise and manage all your configuration of Nuxeo.

Nowadays, content management is much than a file or a PDF document with a creation net. Most of the time you get content that interacts so much with processes that, in the end, what you get is a full software, and you always forget about the file safe, and Nuxeo will help you get there; or stay close to the final approach that you usually have. So, basically with Nuxeo, you adapt the platform to your needs and you don’t go the other way around; then you deploy Nuxeo in the cloud environment that you want – private or public; you keep the control.

“...either you use it in your

own system or you can

even sell it as a

software-as-a-service system.”

Question 1

What are the cloud

benefits of Nuxeo’s open

source ECM platform?

Question 2

In what way does Nuxeo’s cloud solution

help organisations maintain control of their

document management?

“...take the platform,

customise it, and then

either use your own internal

processes to secure the data

or trust a public structure...”

“Big Data is all about

processing information at

a level no man can...”

Well, I would approach that differently. What you want is answering a need or solving a problem. Cloud is just a technology, this is not a solution; so, in the end, you, most of the time, must not choose the technology first. You try to solve your problem so, you find the best solution that does that and if it’s

in the cloud, then fine.

In the end, what you have agreed to care about is that all your applications integrate peacefully together, and this is the only question you have. Don’t focus on the technology; find a solution that matches your needs.

Big Data is all about processing information at a level no man can, and then use that to detect trends or threats. From a big set of data, you generate content which then needs to be processed by a user and Nuxeo is really the right tool to do that because it will provide all the tools to have workflows, distributed content and finally, process everything that is generated by a Big Data application.

A good example of that would be an insurance application. From all the available data, an automated tool generates possible fraud cases and pushes that to Nuxeo; this is now the content that needs to be processed. On the Nuxeo platform, all the users can connect to their cases, manage them, complete them, distribute them to other users and, in the end, process this content.

Question 4

What are your recommendations for companies

looking to migrate to the cloud yet retain some

in-house applications?

Question 5

Big Data and cloud are often heard together;

how does Nuxeo position themselves in the

Big Data arena?

Question 3

How does the Nuxeo

cloud solution address

the growing issue of data

security in the cloud?

Nuxeo approaches security in different ways. The first one is that we try to be as transparent as possible. Also, as it’s open, you can see exactly how it is built but you also have access to our back-tracking system. So, in the end, you really know what you are going to deploy on your servers.

The second point; you have to total control on how you are going to deploy Nuxeo because most of the time, we do not host Nuxeo as it would be customised to your needs. So, take the platform, customise it, and then either use your own internal processes to secure the data or trust a public structure; this is really up to you.
