SCOPE This Material Standard Specification (TMSS) specifies the minimum technical requirements for design, engineering, manufacturing, testing and performance of Submersible Sump Pumps intended to be used in the system of Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), Saudi Arabia.. 2.0. CROSS-REFERENCES This Material Standard Specification shall be read in conjunction with the latest revision of SEC General Specification No. 01-TMSS-01, titled “General Requirement for All Equipment/Materials”, which shall be considered as an integral part of this TMSS. This TMSS shall also be read in conjunction with SEC Purchase Order or Contract Schedules for the project, as applicable.. 3.0. APPLICABLE CODES AND STANDARDS The latest revision/amendments of the following Codes and Standards shall be applicable for the equipment/material covered in this TMSS. In case of conflict, the vendor/manufacturer may propose equipment/material conforming to one group of Industry Codes and Standards quoted hereunder without jeopardizing the requirements of this TMSS. 3.1. (5) TRANSMISSION MATERIALS STANDARD SPECIFICATION. 5.0. 83-TMSS-01, Rev. 0. BASIC DESIGN REQUIREMENTS 5.1. PUMPS 5.1.1 General a.. The pump section including seals shall be designed for a working pressure of up to 0.80 MPa.. b.. The guaranteed pump performance curve, as quoted, shall be continuously rising to shut-off. The percentage head rise from rated head to shut-off shall be as follows: i. ii.. c.. d.. e.. For single operating pumps, a minimum of 10% For pumps operating in parallel, a minimum of 15%. If while handling the specified liquid at the conditions stated on the Pump Data Schedule, the pump fails to meet the specified performance on the site, the Vendor/Bidder shall be responsible for performing any corrective action required. Design modifications to the pump bowls or internal components which may affect the hydraulic or mechanical performance are not permitted after order placement unless approved by SEC . Pump shall be capable of running dry without damage to any component.. 5.1.2 Casing a.. The thickness of all cast bowls shall be suitable for the maximum discharge pressure plus allowances for head increases at pumping temperature and hydrostatic test pressure at ambient temperature with a 3.2 mm minimum corrosion allowance.. b.. Casings shall have flanged joints. If threaded bowls are used, sealing shall be achieved by means of “O-rings” in the partition grooves.. 5.1.3 Rotating Elements a.. 83TMSS01R0/AJJ. Shafts shall be machined and properly finished over their entire length so that there is no more than 40 micrometers (0.0015 in.) total indicated runout per meter of shaft length.. Underfiling, overfiling or trimming, other than design standard, of impeller vanes to meet rated performance is not permitted unless approved in advance by SEC. If approved, the Vendor/Bidder shall submit a drawing showing details of the impeller outlet modifications. This drawing shall also be included in the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Manual.. 5.1.4 Wear Rings a.. The pump housing bottom and the impeller shall be equipped with easily replaceable wear rings.. b.. Wear rings shall be held in places by means of a press fit with locking pins or threaded dowels (axial or radial) or by flanged and screwed methods. Tack welding is not acceptable.. 5.1.5 Running Clearances When establishing running clearances between wear rings or between other rotating and stationary parts, consideration shall be given to pumping temperature, suction conditions, the characteristics of the pumped liquid, the expansion and galling characteristics of the materials and the hydraulic efficiency. Clearances shall be sufficient to ensure dependability of operation and freedom from seizure under all operating conditions. 5.1.6 Dynamics Rotating elements shall be dynamically balanced. 5.2. Motors 5.2.1 General. 83TMSS01R0/AJJ. a.. The motors shall be totally enclosed and immersible oil-filled lubricated type suitable for intermittent or continuous operation.. b.. The motors shall be equipped with built-in automatic-reset thermal overheating protection.. c.. The stator winding insulation for oil-filled motors shall have at least equivalent to Class F with temperature rise limited to class B insulation. Three (3) phase motors shall be NEMA B design and NEMA L design for single (1) phase motors.. Date of Approval: October 10, 2007. PAGE NO. 6 OF 12.

(7) TRANSMISSION MATERIALS STANDARD SPECIFICATION. 83-TMSS-01, Rev. 0. d.. The motors shall be designed to supply its rated outputs at ±5% variation of the rated frequency and voltage. Without overheating the motor, ±10% variation of the rated voltage should be accepted provided the motor does not run continuously at full load.. e.. The motors shall be designed to operate with a voltage imbalance of up to ±2% between the phases.. f.. The motors shall be provided with oil and water resistant power cable of adequate length as required.. g.. The motors shall have a minimum service factor of 1.20.. h.. The motor enclosure shall be IP 68 or equivalent.. 5.2.2 Rotors a.. Rotors shall be machined and properly finished over their entire length. The total indicated runout of the bearing journal areas and the area under the coupling hub shall not exceed 25 micrometers (0.001 in.). All other areas shall not exceed 50 micrometers (0.002 in.) total indicated runout.. b.. Rotors shall be dynamically balanced.. 5.2.3 Bearings The bearings shall be permanently lubricated by the dielectric oil and shall be designed for at least 20,000 hours of continuous operation. Bearings shall be positioned as follows: a.. Upper Bearing: Shall be a roller or single-row ball bearing designed to counteract radial forces.. b.. Lower Bearing: Shall be a double angular-contact ball bearing built to take both radial and axial forces.. 5.2.4 Shaft Sealing Submersible motors shall be provided with double mechanical seals operating independently from each other and seal off the motor from the pump housing. (8) TRANSMISSION MATERIALS STANDARD SPECIFICATION. 83-TMSS-01, Rev. 0. 5.2.5 Power Cable Severe heavy duty rated, oil and water resistant with leak-proof cable gland. 5.3. Control System (for permanently-installed pumps only) 5.3.1 General a.. For interior installation, the control system shall be designed for float controlled pumping consisting of a control panel of NEMA 1 enclosure having contactor unit with overload relay, a selector switch (Hand-OffAutomatic) and push button for reset of overload relay. For outdoor installation, control panel shall be constructed of NEMA 4 enclosure and shall be designed for all-weather protection i.e. dust and water-proof while indoor type control panel shall be dust and splashproof, constructed of corrosion and abrasion resistant metal.. 83TMSS01R0/AJJ. b.. The control system shall also be designed to provide high water alarm indication (flashing light and horn), alarm test and silence buttons, pilot lamps and control power on/off switch.. c.. The entire control system shall be designed, assembled and tested meeting UL or IEC regulation or any internationally recognized standards.. d.. Wiring diagram shall be provided and shall be securely attached on the reverse side of the panel door.. Date of Approval: October 10, 2007. PAGE NO. 8 OF 12.

Oil-filled motors shall be tested in compliance with IEC 60034-1 or any other internationally recognized standards.. 6.2. Each motor shall be given a routine test to demonstrate that it is free from mechanical and electrical defects. This test shall include the following: 6.2.1 A high potential test on the stator. 6.2.2 An insulation resistance test. 6.2.3 Measurement of the winding resistance. 6.2.4 Measurement of the no-load current (each phase). 6.2.5 Measurement of nominal no-load speed. 6.2.6 A determination of the locked rotor current.. 6.3. Curves showing motor efficiency and power factor at 100%, 75% and 50% of full load shall be provided. The Vendor shall indicate which test code method will be used in the determination of this performance data.. 6.4. A polarization index text test shall be conducted. The polarization index shall not be less than 3.0.. 6.5. Pump bowl assemblies shall be hydrostatically tested, using water at ambient temperature, to a pressure of 1.5 times the maximum allowable assembly pressure.. 6.6. All pumps performance tests shall be in accordance with ISO 5198, Class C; smaller units being subjected to Annex B criteria.. 6.7. Tests measurements shall be taken at shut-off to determine impeller size, minimum continuous stable capacity, mid-way between minimum continuous stable capacity and rated capacity, rated capacity and 120% of rated capacity.. 6.8. On completion of performance testing, the pumpset shall be set at its rated point and run for a continuous period of not less than one hour.
