Club Program

Please turn in your 4-H Club Program as soon as you have it completed. We encourage you to complete it with your club and/or club officer team.

It is a great tool to give your families and mem-bers so they are aware of upcoming activities/ events. They can also look ahead at their upcom-ing responsibilities for the club as well as the county.

Please remember to re-enroll for

4-H through 4honline. If you

don’t remember the email that

you used to log in, please

contact the Extension Office. I

would like all members to be

re-enrolled by November 1st.

2012 4-H Recognition Program

Saturday, November 17th

Please join us as we Brighten Your World at the 2012 4-H Recognition Program. For the first time, we will celebrate the 4-H Year at the Marion County Extension Office. The potluck dinner will begin at 6:00p.m. and the program will start at 7:00p.m. Please plan accordingly and bring the amount that you think your family would eat. We want to be sure that there will be enough to go around. Again this year we will NOT be having a meat furnished. Drinks and tableware will be provided.

County Council Membership

Last year there was a change in the County Council selection process. Each club can nomi-nate ONE member who is in grades 9th-12th to be on County Council. There will be TEN “at large” positions that will be available through application and interview process. This coming year the County Council will be focusing on growing the Marion County 4-H program through service learning projects and providing learning opportunities for our members and our commu-nity. County Council is a leadership position that is a privilege and should be valued as such. Ap-plications are due to the Marion County Extension Office by October 1st. If you are interested in being on County Council and your club does not elect new officers until the October meeting, please apply for an “at large” position in case you are not selected by your club! You can pick up an application at the Marion County Extension Office or find it online at: http://

www.extension.iastate.edu/marion/page/county-council

The new County Council year will begin at the November meeting after new members have been installed at the Recognition Program in November.

State 4-H Horse Judging Contest

The 2012 State Horse Judging Contest is scheduled for Saturday, November 3rd at the Ellsworth Community Col-lege Equestrian Center, Iowa Fall, IA. Information on rules and the entry form are at, http://

www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/statehorsejudgingentryform . Entry forms are due by October 23rd.

4-H Project Hot Sheets

Again this year, instead of using 4-H project guides, ISU Extension has put

together 4-H project Hot Sheets. These informational tools are available at:

www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/projects

If you cannot find what you are looking for or have any questions, please

contact the Extension office.

Bullets & Bows Can Drive

The Bullets & Bows 4-H Club is having a Pop Can/Bottle drive on Saturday, October

29th from 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. The drop off location is the Southeast corner of the

Family Video parking lot in Knoxville. If you are unable to drop them off and would like

someone to pick them up please call Andy Shives (891-3477) to let us know where to

pick them up. You do not need to be home for the pick up just let us know where to find

them. Pick up will also be on Saturday, October 27th from 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. This is

not limited to Knoxville residents only, this is county wide. Anyone is welcome to drop

them off and pick up is open to anywhere in Marion County!

Your support is important to the Bullets & Bows 4-H Club. Please spread the word about

the Can Drive and start saving your cans and bottles!

NATIONAL 4-H WEEK

OCTOBER 4TH-8TH

This is a great time to recruit new members for your clubs. Through

out the week the County Council members will be traveling to all of

the 4th grade classrooms in Marion County to share about their 4-H

experiences. Recruitment is not limited to 4th graders! Please

ac-tively recruit anyone in 4th through 12th grades!

We have updated Marion County 4-H brochures available at the

Ex-tension Office. Call ahead and let us know how many you would

like to have.

Check out a few ways you can help celebrate National 4-H Week:

Create a media event by getting a commitment from every 4-H'er for individual service projects during National 4-H Week. Print their pledges in the newspaper and encourage the members to sup-ply photos of their work. Better yet, send the newspaper photographer to catch the 4-H'ers at work.

Have an ice cream social with 4-H'ers, county offi-cials, and volunteers. Showcase youth projects and exhibits.

Select a National 4-H Week baby! The first baby

born during 4-H Week in the county (if you have a county hospital that delivers) is named the 4-H ba-by. Get sponsorship from local vendors for dia-pers, gas to carry baby home, milk/formula, flow-ers, baby clothes, etc. Give baby a 4-H member-ship card.

Have fortune cookies made, with a 4-H message inside each one. Distribute them in restaurants and in other public places.

Cover your county with 4-H posters! Encourage EVERY 4-H'er to bring a 4-H poster to the club meeting. Let a committee of 4-H'ers and volun-teers be responsible for distributing signs in every business and public places.

Fly a 4-H flag on the town square.

Place 4-H promotional placemats in local restau-rants.

Ask local businesses to put 4-H is Great! Get

Into It! on their signs during the week.

Have a 4-H Cookie-baking Marathon and deliver cookies to police departments, teachers, school board members, fire departments, and other community services.

Give door prizes (4-H pencils, T-Shirts, Blue Tick Tickets, etc.) by drawing completed enroll-ment cards.

Have a phone-a-thon. 4-H'ers phone all the do-nors and sponsors to say thanks.

Have a 4-H pizza party for 4-H'ers caught wear-ing green durwear-ing 4-H Week.

Advertise a wear-green day. Distribute green and white mints to everyone who wears green that day; or distribute tickets to a fun 4-H event. Have a 4-H Family Hayride.

Radio contest: Use questions based on 4-H histo-ry and 4-H today. Callers who give correct an-swers, win a prize. Use 4-H T-Shirts, 4-H pens and pencils, and other promotional trinkets.

These are just a few ideas to help

pro-mote National 4-H Week! Get creative

and come up with a way to celebrate

National 4-H that is fun and
