CyberSecure: backup & recovery simplified

Until recently, data backup for most businesses - if it happened at all - relied on daily or weekly recording onto backup tapes or drives. Doing this successfully depended on someone remembering to set things up, someone remembering to take the tapes or drives home with them, and the backup media having enough spare room to store what is an increasingly enormous amount of information.

Modern business needs a more modern backup solution. CyberSecure can provide that solution.

As an Australian-owned data management specialist, CyberSecure takes advantage of the latest in offsite data storage technologies to provide our clients with the safest, most reliable and most secure data backup service available today.

By using our backup service, your data will be stored offsite on secure, enterprise-grade servers. Your backups will be updated every day. And backing up will be fully automatic, no longer relying on a small number of people to remember to make them happen. You and your staff will be free to get on with running the business.

And if the worst happened - if you lost all your data due to a computer crash, a fire or anything else - we’d be able to help you get up and running again within hours rather than days.

Since we started back in 2003, CyberSecure has worked to create the smartest, most secure solutions to data loss. Today, we help protect information in some of the most information dependant industries, including government, education, law, finance and pharmaceutical.

Data Loss: it’s inevitable

• In late 2007, GE Money USA lost a backup tape containing credit-card information on 650,000 customers from 230 retail locations

• It was discovered that the tape went missing from a facility of their offsite tape transport provider

• Data was not encrypted, allowing complete access to all records stored on the tape

The reality of lost data

Data loss. Tomorrow, next week, six months, next year... it will happen to you.

Hard drives fail, computer chips burn out, software has bugs and humans make mistakes. All of these can lead to data loss on a small or large scale. And of course, in the worst cases, theft, fire or storm damage can ruin an entire computer network: no matter how healthy.

Consider the following facts about data loss:

• 60% of companies that lose their data will shutdown within 6 months of the disaster

• Hardware or system failure accounts for 78% of all data loss • Human error accounts for 11% of all data loss

The question is, when data is lost in your business, will you be

prepared?

While most companies are aware that they need to backup their critical data, they are often not aware that poor setup and maintenance of backup procedures can be as bad as not backing up at all. Missing or incomplete approaches to backing up can lead to huge losses of money and time if lost data needs to be recovered.

Traditional solutions to data backup are wasteful, unreliable and insecure.

Waste in older backup systems comes from the fact that they back

up everything, every time. On a computer network, this means that duplicate files, data already existing in the backup and files existing on numerous computers are backed up time and time again. This makes backup times longer and increases storage costs substantially.

Older solutions also tend to be unreliable because they rely on human intervention to work properly, and they use removable tapes or drives which are vulnerable to heat, vibration and magnetic fields. What’s more, problems with these backups only become apparent when you need them most: after data has been lost.

Removable tapes and drives have another problem: security. Because older backup systems provide little or nothing in the way of data

encryption, information on a removable tape or drive which goes missing could easily be accessed by the recipient.

CyberSecure’s leading edge backup processes overcome these problems. Backups are incremental: only files which have changed are backed up leading to quicker and cheaper backups. Data is transported via a secure, private ‘pipe’ and stored on our purpose built data warehouse for absolute reliability. And we use the best modern encryption to ensure that only you have access to your data.

• Companies move 200% or more of their data every week using traditional backup methods such as tape or external hard drives • CyberSecure’s advanced

technology can reduce backup sizes by 90%, making backup and recovery faster and more manageable • Traditional backups are

not encrypted and are so are open to major risks if the backup is compromised

Quick Backup Facts

CyberSecure’s backup solutions have a variety of clever features which make our offsite backup service both secure and efficient.

First, most of the grunt work is done before the data leaves your premises. Our programs do data

comparison - to identify changed information - and data compression - to reduce file size - before any data is sent over the wire. This reduces the total backup size by up to 50%, increasing speed and reducing costs. By making backup quicker and easier, we also reduce the chance that something will go wrong.

Second, we use high standards of data encryption both during data transfer from your site to ours, and when your data is stored on our computers. Technically speaking, we use industry standard SSL security for data transport and AES 256-bit encryption of all stored files. In short, no one will be able to read your data at any time.

Third, unlike many online data storage services CyberSecure uses only Australian-based data centres. This further improves the speed and reliability of our backups. It also means that, should you need access to your backed up information, we’ll be able to get it to you very quickly. We have contracts with Australia Post Messenger Couriers so that you can have rapid physical access to your data when you need it.

Using CyberSecure’s services gives your business access to leading-edge data storage facilities that were previously only available to government and very large corporations. Your data will be stored in multi-million dollar, high-security Australian data storage facilities.

All data centres have been extensively researched, reviewed and critiqued before being chosen by CyberSecure as facilities to house our storage equipment and network. In order to provide the highest security and reliability, these centres feature:

• dedicated power infrastructures, including a minimum of 24 hours backup power;

• precise air conditioning which maintains temperatures at a constant 22°C;

• fire detection and suppression equipment which can extinguish a fire without damage to the facility;

• 24 hour manned security with barrier controlled vehicle access and multiple CCTV cameras; and

• complex monitoring to ensure the computer servers are always operating reliably

Our business-critical data centres feature the latest in

power protection, air-conditioning and security safeguards:

How your data is protected with CyberSecure

• Data centres are purpose-built facilities that house critical IT and communication infrastructure that government institutions and large corporates rely on. • Your data is exclusively

housed in these professional facilities. • CyberSecure has

Service Level

Agreements with the data centres to ensure your data is available. • Banks and

government agencies are just some of the customers using the same facilities as CyberSecure clients.
