Children will learn to...

● identify common appliances that run on electricity

● construct a simple series electrical circuit, identifying and naming its basic parts

● recognise that a switch opens and closes a circuit and recognise some common conductors and insulators

Aim: to be able to enjoy exploring electricity through using batteries, wires, bulbs, switches and buzzers to design and create working simple series circuits.

States of Matter Children will learn to...

● compare and group materials together, according to whether they are solids, liquids or gases ● observe that some materials

change state when they are heated or cooled

● identify the part played by evaporation and condensation in the water cycle

Aim: to know there are 3 different states of matter and to explain their similarities and differences and how they can be changed.

The Digestive System Children will learn to...

● describe the simple functions of the basic parts of the digestive system in humans

● identify the different types of teeth in humans and their simple functions

● construct and interpret a variety of food chains, identifying producers, predators and prey Aim: to understand the importance of food to animals and how it is processed and used by their bodies.

● find patterns between the pitch and volume of a sound and the strength of vibrations that produced it

Aim: to explore how sound is made and how sound travels in order to be heard.

● identify modern Greece and where it is in Europe on a map ● identify the Ancient Greek city

● give geographical reasons for the location of the city states e.g. Mountainous landscape, the sea etc

Aim: to understand where the Ancient Greeks lived and the factors that influenced their choices about where to live.

Children will learn to...

● use atlases and maps to locate the areas of the main tropical

rainforests and identify and describe the weather in those areas

● identify characteristics of layers of the rainforest

● recognise how environments affect the quality of people’s lives and to identify how and why places change, for example, through deforestation and conservation projects Aim: to locate and understand the characteristics of the world’s rainforests and how this impacts on the quality of people’s lives across the world.

● locate Brazil and major cities using maps, atlases and software ● to learn about the life of school

Aim: to understand life in a South American country and compare it to our lives in the UK.

Aim: to understand where the Romans came from and the extent of their Empire.

● compare and contrast city states (Sparta and Athens)

● compare the modern and ancient Olympic Games

● learn about the ancient Greek way of life (e.g. legacy, alphabet, plays, artefacts, religion, myths) Aim: to understand how the ancient Greeks lived and how their culture has influenced modern society.

Children will learn to...

● look at pictures of artefacts to gain information about life at the time

● know about Maya everyday life and culture by looking at Mayan gods and beliefs

● research and investigate the ruins of Chichen Itza as a primary source

Aim: children will understand that there were other ancient civilisations in several places around the world and that their legacy is still evident today.

Children will learn to…

● understand about the Romans from the invasion of Britain to the end of the Roman Empire

● understand why the Romans invaded Britain and how the Britons defended their island ● understand what life was like in

the Roman army and why the Romans built Hadrian’s Wall Aim: to understand that our lives have been shaped by influences from the past and evidence of this can still be seen in the UK today.

● make and taste Greek foods (e.g. Tzatziki, Greek salad)

● become competent in using cooking techniques by selecting and preparing ingredients and using utensils

● use awareness of taste, texture and smell to decide how to combine ingredients

Aim: to understand more about the Greek Culture, past and present, and to enjoy designing, making and sharing Greek dishes.

● use research and develop design criteria

● generate, develop, model and communicate their ideas and select from and use a wider range of materials and components ● evaluate their ideas and products

against their own design criteria and consider the views of others to improve their work

Aim: to explore sustainability further by making a tote bag from recycled materials.

● use research and develop design criteria to inform the design of products that are fit for purpose.

● select from and use a wider range of tools and equipment to

perform practical tasks (e.g. cutting, shaping, joining and finishing) accurately

Aim: to use DT skills to create Roman army barracks and a Roman aqueduct.

• research Greek pottery and identify scenes depicted on Greek pottery

● to improve their mastery of art and design techniques, including painting and drawing with a range of materials (e.g. pencil, charcoal and sculpture)

● experiment with a range of media to create their own scenes on top of paint

Aim: to use materials with creativity and experimentation to recreate scenes from the Ancient Greek Olympics and Greek myths.
