Digital Imaging for Ophthalmology

Who We Are

At Anka Systems, Inc. (ANKA), we offer a one-stop solution for capturing, storing, and distributing digital images, tailored to the needs of the ophthalmology industry. Our digitizing system, EyeRoute, is specifically designed for handling the growing number of digital images used by today's ophthalmology hospitals. In addition, we provide complete project management and system integration services to allow a smooth transition from film to digital images.

Working closely with one of the top eye institutes in the world, Anka has spent more than a year developing the EyeRoute product line. The result is an affordable system that meets the highest standards for reliability and ease of use. Our system allows doctors to access images instantly from anywhere. In addition, a highly redundant architecture provides for maximum availability. Anka Systems is exclusively focused on delivering the best technology solutions to ophthalmology hospitals. As an Anka customer, you'll be working with the finest technologies and technologists the market has to offer.

EyeRoute Products

EyeRoute integrates the best image-capturing, storage, viewing, monitoring, and networking technologies available today. Considering the budget constraints of typical ophthalmology hospitals, EyeRoute products have been specifically designed as modular increments thereby giving hospitals the flexibility to scale as their particular needs grow. This means that the initial deployment budget for multiple capture stations managed by central storage and monitoring systems can be less than two hundred thousand dollars. Yet, by adding optional modules, it can grow to a comprehensive, integrated system that can meet the current and future needs of any ophthalmology hospital.

Digital Ophthalmology Applications

EyeRoute Entry-Level Configuration

Ophthalmology hospitals can finally deploy high quality digital imaging systems at affordable prices. Anka System’s EyeRoute products provide a modular incremental approach to deploying digital ophthalmology systems. The basic hospital system consists of capture stations, viewing stations, central patient records, and central storage. This entry-level configuration allows hospitals to capture studies on multiple capture stations, store studies on a central network, view the studies from multiple locations, and back the studies up to DVDs for disaster recovery.

EyeRoute Satellite Hospital Support

To handle studies captured in satellite hospitals, Anka Systems provides EyeRoute-Cache, a special viewing station with a cache that can store many months worth of studies locally. The capture station also supports a local copy of the study database. Because both the image storage and the database are local, studies can be acquired even when the network to the central hospital is unavailable. This system also automatically copies these satellite hospital studies to the central storage. The copied satellite hospital studies can then be quickly accessed by central hospital users as well.

HIS Integration for Ophthalmology

EyeRoute-HL7

EyeRoute-HL7 provides flexible communication with hospital information systems.

Database Hospital Information System (HIS) HIS Gateway

Hospital Information Systems (HIS) are used to create a patient’s demographic and scheduling information when they make appointments. EyeRoute-HL7 retrieves the patient’s demographic and scheduling information from the HIS system through HL7 (Health Level 7) based messages. HL7 is an industry standard format that is used for electrical data exchange within the hospital environment. This interface is useful for procedure automation that requires the retrieval, distribution and validation of patient records and registration of this information to other client components such as the capture stations, work flow for order processing, viewing applications and storage systems. By deploying EyeRoute-HL7, all the manual procedures related to the patient demographic information can be automated. Additionally, EyeRoute-HL7 provides an update capability to report the examination status and medical notes back to HIS for access, billing and transcription purposes.

Functions

 International standard HIS interface (HL7 version 2.3)

 Translates ADT (admission, discharge, and transfer) messages  Bi-directional message communication

 Receives patient records via HL7 messages  Sends image availability via HL7 messages

DICOM Gateway

Storage Database

EyeRoute-DICOM allows EyeRoute to communicate with other systems using the DICOM standard. Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) specifies a network protocol utilizing TCP/IP, defines the operation of Service Classes beyond the simple transfer of data, and provides a mechanism for uniquely identifying information objects as they are acted upon across the network. DICOM is also structured as a multi-part document in order to facilitate extension of the standard. Additionally, DICOM defines information objects not only for images but also for patients, studies, reports, and other data groupings. With the enhancements made in DICOM (Version 3.0), the standard is now ready to deliver on its promise of permitting the transfer of medical images in a multi-vendor environment.
